The icy road led us up to small bar in Tahoe City. We were tired after a day of snowboarding, and all we wanted was a beer to quench our thirst. We entered Pete N’ Peters. This is a dive bar mind you, so the appearance was rather dull, with underwhelming colors and decorations that made it feel like a quiet mountain bar. The staff was nice enough, and we sat and watched Sports Center while recapping our day. There were maybe eight or ten other people there that night, but the atmosphere was still an entertaining one. After a challenge to shuffle board we decided to hit the slab of salted wood for a match. Only problem was, they used sand instead of salt, and there was barely any on there. After we realized the bartender doubled as the master of table sand, she reluctantly sanded it for us while muttering that she already did. I didn’t like the attitude she gave us, but we played on regardless. Our pucks would glide to an early halt as it was often hard to play in such conditions. we tried to sand it ourselves, but it just never played all that well. So we just had fun with it. It was all going smoothly, moving on to a game of pool; when it happened. There was a smell from the center of the room, as if a sulfur plant brewed underneath. We tried to ignore it but the smell grew worse. Other customers relocated out of the area, people began accusing each other of farting. Nobody was willing to admit fault. Everyone looked at one another with sideways glances, all of us wondering who could have let out such a fowl odor. I was looking at the bar staff the whole time, none of them bothered to even investigate the situation. Some of the customers left, but I grew suspicious. As we tried to finish our game of pool amidst the stench, it became apparent that the smell was in a singular area between the two pool tables. It became unbearable to finish the game, so we tried our hand at darts and attempted to avoid the smell. After 10 minutes, it dissipated. I never found out what the stench was, or where it came from. Could it have been conceived from an other worldly flatulence? Was there an exhaust that poured out into the bar? Could I have unknowingly passed gas, deceiving myself and my friends? Could I be getting duped by my friends? While I may never know the answer, this was a nice bar for a cold winter’s night when you want a beer to keep you warm. For me, I will always remember that smell when I think of Pete N’ Peter’s, thus my reservations.

went in on a Tuesday evening and they had three different games on three different TV’s. A nice touch is getting table service too. You can order food from Za’s, the restaurant in the back and it was fried chicken night(tuesday). Holy Cr@p it was good! The best, most tender and moist on the inside and crisp on the outside fried chicken I have had in a while(yup, I said it). The plate came with house made mashed potatoes and cream corm with red peppers and bacon in it. I paired the meal with a cold beer and it was perfect. they have a shuffleboard table and two pool tables. fun place, Im sure its hoppin on the weekends!

When I was a «non-local» after moving to Truckee from Southern Cal and finding work at Tahoe City Pharmacy, this place and its owner were a part of the great North Shore community that gave me a sense of belonging. Special thanks go to Dave«Johnny B» Rutter, one of Pete N Peter’s owners, who always had a smile and positive vibe, whether he was standing behind the bar or visiting us over at the pharmacy. Thanks, Vince, for taking me to Pete N Peter’s. I didn’t typically go to bars, but I’m glad you took me along to this one.

In the late afternoon, Pete N Peter’s is great for hanging out with friends and doing bar stuff — they’ve got darts, pool tables, shuffleboard, and Golden Tee(sorry Big Buck Hunter fans). The drinks are reasonably priced, especially if you go for a beer/shot combo. On Fri/Sat nights, the place can get packed and uncomfortable(generally w/the bridge and tunnel crowd(of which I am a member)). At that point, the bar game charm wears off, and you suddenly realize that you’re standing in a big, damp, crowded room. So come earlier in the afternoon, then make like Cinderella and bounce before midnight.

I ordered a drink from an older man behind the bar, the drink wasn’t too pricey so I tipped 50%. I didn’t like the taste of my drink and after one sip, asked the bartender if I could switch it out for something else. The bartender, who’s name I later found out was Duke, made a huge fuss and at one point began yelling at me. After getting my new drink(vodka tonic), Duke snatched away the old one and scoffed«Don’t think your getting to keep this!»(don’t worry Duke… I never wanted it) I don’t think I have ever experienced such an outburst from any bartender or waiter in my entire life. Hugely awkward and off putting to say the least. The saving grace of this place was the second bartender, a younger man by the name of Kevin. Kevin provided great service and lots of laughs to me and my group of friends. If it wasn’t for Kevin, I would have definitely given a 1 star. Kevin rocks, Duke… not so much.

Went after hitting the slopes. Drink service was good by the guy bartender. Food service took forever though. Food was ok, got the sausage calzone. Nice crowd, games to play, good place to hang

Cozy bar in the heart of North Lake Tahoe equipped with two pool tables and darts. I came here for NYE and had a wonderful time! The bar was full of a fun, low key crowd and one of the bartenders was nice enough to hand out«Happy New Years» hats and headbands. Great touch! The reason why I am giving this bar 3 starts is I noticed some of the bartenders being rude and unfriendly to customers. I understand it’s New Years and I’m sure it’s extremely annoying to be on the other side of the bar but everyone’s still trying to have a good time :)

Worst service! Bellied to the bar, waited and watched as the bartender served two groups who sat AFTER us. Was never acknowledged. We are full-time Tahoe locals, trying it out. Walked out. Never again!

Comfy, laid back feel, nice service, not expensive and clean bar. They even have two pool tables and darts. The crowd seemed primarily local and everyone knew each other. I will come back for a beer or two when I am in the are once again.

Great time here. Seems it’s the spot all the locals and crowds go. By far the busiest place on the weekend. Servers are great and the prices are fair.

Stopped in here Saturday afternoon for a few beers while my girlfriend and her friend were shopping in the area. Decent comfortable locals bar, really friendly bartender, locals that all knew each other, and pretty fair prices. Taps are mostly Bud, Coors, etc, so nothing to get excited about there, but that fits the kind of bar this is. Decent place to have a few and catch part of a Giants game if you have some time to kill.

Just terrible. If you aren’t from here don’t go here because you will not get served. Walked out of an empty bar on a Sunday after 20 minutes of being ignored. Anywhere in north Tahoe is better than here.

perhaps this type of place just isnt my scene, or perhaps its because i’m not of the ethnic majority, the attitude wasnt all that great from the bartender(one in particular), who scoffed at our questions about drink options and recommendations, sorry we asked and thanks for letting us know that all you drink is whiskey, a simple«no i dont have recommendations» would have sufficed. the pool was fun, though it costs money. the drinks were decently priced and contained decent amounts of alcohol, and this would be an okay place to spend a few hours in your evening after a day on the slopes, since there is nothing else to do in tahoe city(if that’s where you’re spending the night).

Pretty much the only game in town but it’s a cool place. Bartenders(same guys I have seen for the last 4 years) are really cool. The drinks are reasonably priced. COORSORIGINAL, on draft, $ 2.50… Locals spot during the week, Bay Area /Sactown crowd on the weekends…
