Rating des Ortes: 5 Downtown St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay, FL
As another reviewer remarked, Silver Meteor is an intimate little hidden gem of a gallery, showcasing performance and art just off the main strip in Ybor City. You won’t find beach scenes and traditional corporate-friendly art here; instead you’ll see some of the more interesting and alternative emerging and established local artists. It’s teensy tiny, located in an older house just off the railroad tracks in a less upscale neighborhood … but it’s charming and well curated(and perhaps a bit hipster)– a throwback to better and more interesting days in the Tampa art scene. It seems to channel some of the spirit of Covivant, Experimental Skeleton and other spaces that have disappeared over the years. As a perfect illustration, it hosted the gorgeous little nutshell of a solo show: «How the Ghost of You Clings» by Kym O’Donnell. That alone earns five stars from me. Two thumbs up!

The Silver Meteor Gallery is a fantastic hidden gem in Ybor. It’s a simple black box theater that showcases art and exhibitions. It’s an intimate and simple venue. Parking is pretty much the grassy area in front of the gallery near the tracks. If you’re unfamiliar with the area, it’s easy to drive past the turn to the location, but it’s easy to get back on track by going around the corner. There’s only one bathroom for visitors, so if you’re there for a performance, you’ll be in line during intermission. They do offer simple beverage and snack selections, too. I look forward to coming back here for other events!
