Tampa is quite lucky to have a large variety of general & specialty hospitals. I may be wrong, but I do believe that St. Joe’s was one of Tampa’s flagship hospitals. Over the years I have spent a great deal of time here, with family, friends & unfortunately myself. I detest their ER& and initial screening process, it is cold, impersonal and quite frankly disquesting. As a Healthcare professional, I feel their services are adequate for everyday type of issues, but not your major life & death type of situations. This hospital used to be fully staffed 24⁄7& now you are lucky to find a few GP docs on hand. If you are having a heart attack or stroke, these docs, certainally are not specialists. I spent 8 days in the facility with phenumonia & bronchitis. After 8 days of being treated like a queen & receiving fabulous care, I was discharged, without being out of bed for 8 days & offered a bus pass. Yeah, I really think their discharge planning needs a lot of work & professionalism. It is clean, efficient & overall a good general hospital. I would be very leary about having major surgeries: heart, brain, lung… at this facility. It is a general type of hospital good for general physical problems, not the life threatening variety. What’s a girl to do? Go to the best facility possible for your ailments.
