Yesterday, I had the luxury of coming home and having a food truck just sitting outside awaiting business for a limited time. This was a no brainer! The Killer Samich it is for dinner. Call it the pre-game for the record breaking worlds largest food truck rally ever today. Being a pork fan, I wanted to get a a feel for the flavor build diversity going on in each of their signature sandwiches with pork in it. My lineup was the Coconut Glazed Pork with Asian slaw, Carnitas Pork with lime cilantro slaw and the Killer Kuban(I do recommend this sandwich being unique and puts a nice twist to the traditional Cuban). The dissection of all three is a base pulled pork that is well seasoned yet does not take up an identity. I know this makes the pork functional to go any direction in creativity of flavor build, but sometimes a base identity is essential before we start accentuating flavor build. I thought overall all sandwiches had good flavor, but in a mindset of maybe something else added to take it over the top more so pertaining to the carnitas and coconut glazed pork sandwiches. I’m a big fan of texture variation. Like a crunch factor, but that may be more of a personal preference. I like the roll the sandwiches are served on being soft all the way through. However, when condiments and slaws are added to sandwiches it makes it an eat ASAP sandwich or else you have a soggy mess on your hands. In addition, to go orders would not be recommended. I also noted, the slaws cabbage appeared to be freshly grated and not out of a bag. This makes an elegant look to their sandwiches presentation and yes provides some slight variation in texture. Sandwiches are such a convenient utensil free meal. They have evolved to the point where it’s diverse and hearty enough of a meal even at dinner time. All sandwiches at the Killer Samich Truck are at a fair price raging between $ 6 – 8 including a side of corn chips. Drinks are readily available for $ 1 more. I do recommend giving them a try. Follow them on FB to note their whereabouts.

I split the coconut pork(topped with a slaw) sandwich with a friend of mine. To start off, the dude halved it for us so we didn’t fight with cutting it in half with plastic silverware at a picnic table or something. Considering half the sandwich was pretty much a solid meal we were happy we went that route. The pork wasn’t super heavy on the coconut flavor, but it was definitely not bland. The slaw was fresh and crunchy, and the bread was soft. The mixture of textures was great. The flavors all worked together too. The only thing that threw me off was the handful of corn chips that came with it. It feels like they should have a better/more interesting side for this kind of a sandwich.

My neighbor’s 30th birthday party promised a food truck. I was excited yet intrigued by what kind of food truck would show up. To my pleasant surprise, it was The Killer Sammich Truck. According to the friend whose party it was, they were pretty inexpensive to book and they were easy to work with. I tried bites of two different sandwiches: A coconut pork sandwich and the Cuban. Both were good, but the Cuban knocked the other one out of the park. It was gooey and melty and meaty and dreamy. If you see The Killer Sammich Truck while out and about, you oughtta check it out!

There isn’t much to say about this food truck. A little variety of sandwiches. I chose a turkey melt., which is served on a hoagie with bacon, swiss, and garlic mayo. Honestly, couldn’t taste the mayo but it was a pretty decent sandwich. It does come with nacho chips, but no cheese or anything to dip them in. I don’t think it was worth the $ 8 I paid, though. I’m actually curious why the turkey melt was the only sandwich that was $ 8 and the rest were $ 7. I suppose high prices are to be expected for any food truck due to the supply and demand/their convenience.
