Fondue night was fantastic! Definitely recommend you make reservations for a Tuesday night dinner to enjoy this authentic splurge dining experience! The staff are extremely nice. The night we went, there were only a handful of other tables. Each course with fondue night was delicious. Highly recommend.

What can I say but great about The Bavarian Lodge. The location is the best in the Taos ski valley. At the very foot of Lift #4 at 10,000 feet, the view from the deck of our King Ludwig Suite was fantastic. The staff were always friendly and courteous. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. And of course the food. Our first night, Friday, we dined on the Wine Tasting Event menu. The six courses were unbelievable. Scallops, bison, filet, lamb, short ribs, white chocolate flan all with perfectly paired side dishes and fantastic Ontanon Spanish wines. Head Chef Gabriel had a basic authentic German menu for our other meals. Lunch in the Lodge Saturday was classic German light fare; goulash soup, pretzels, and perfect German beer. Breakfast was simple and hearty, to prepare us for our days on the slopes. Our room was clean, spacious and exactly as expected. The ambience of the Lodge, the friendliness of the staff, the beautiful mountain scenery, and of course the food created a perfect vacation getaway for mountain skiing. Thank you to Thomas and his staff for a ski vacation of a lifetime. My family are already figuring out how to make it back to Taos and the Bavarian Lodge for skiing in the near future.

So cute! This chalet/cabin is charming with seating centered around a fire place with tables situated into cozy nooks, decked with sheepskin throws on the chairs. This place really feels like a nordic ski hut. The bar serves German brews out of steins and looks to have hearty and soul-warming grub. BTW the bathrooms are awesome– clean and charming, roomy for ski gear of boots and jackets, a nice retreat from the rest of the resort’s facilities. Sit at the bar for an apres brew and take the shuttle back to the lot when it starts up at 430pm or ski back(but it’s an annoying cat track which isn’t fun to pole yourself through once you have a few brewskis in ya). Another option– come up on the shuttle at 430 or stay for dinner after skiing. They say that dinner is touch and go, it can be super busy or super dead, so call ahead to see what their availability is and get shuttle details.

This place had great beer and good food. Right off the mountain near the base. I would recommend checking this place out if you are in Taos Ski Valley. Get the schnitzel.

The Bavarian has great food great German beer great atmosphere. You get the authentic German lifestyle in Taos New Mexico which is a rare gem. We got the Bavarian sausage platter and it was awesome ! The beer is cold and the waitresses dress in the Deutschland attire

After a morning skiing Taos, nothing hits the spot quite like The Bavarian. This has been my family’s go to restaurant for years, but I returned for the first time in recent memory a few weeks ago. It’s a small spot and definitely a prime contender for the best meal on the mountain so was packed. We waited about 30 minutes to get a table and inside was mass chaos. If you’re lucky, you can squeeze in the bar or track a waiter down to grab a German beer while you wait(and watch the likelihood of you getting back on that mountain drift away with every sweet sip). Know that once the chaos subsides, you’re in for something delicious. My party of four was seated at a table with a single diner. It wasn’t a problem though, skiiers are generally friendly and he happily engaged in conversation with us. I convinced my boyfriend to split an order of cheese spaetzle and the sausage sampler. My dad got the Hungarian goulash, and my brother the schnitzel. The portions are big and we ate until we were stuffed because it was all that good. Add on another beer, it quickly became clear there was no way we were going to bear the freezing elements and strap on our skis again. Worth it? Totally. I’m sure if you have more self restraint than I, you can control what you eat and at least make a couple more runs afterwards. I heard they are expanding soon and that will be clutch. For now, try to avoid peak times and don’t wait until you’re starving to sit down. Once you do sit down, enjoy the experience and… Prost!

Got the Schnitzel. Worst of ANYPLACE in the world! Over fried, not tenderized, and so tough it could have been a rented snow board. Vegetables few and poorly cooked. No gravy. Dry dry dry. Expensive beer so I skipped it. Music REALLY created that old German atmosphere too! Someone went to a LOT of trouble to pick the WORST load garage band music done by stoners ever put on you tube! Horrible experience and a waste of time. They need to regroup, check their menu, get some German music in there and create an atmosphere of fun, not a college frat house!

Great German beer, great authentic food, excellent experience. I ordered the vegetarian spatzel and a 32 oz brew to wash it all down. The waiters and waitresses wear the coolest outfits that make you forget you’re just a few miles from the desert climate of New Mexico.

We ate burgers here after coming off a hike of Wheeler Peak during the mid-afternoon on a weekday in July 2015. The restaurant was slow and the staff seemed continuously distracted. We had to request every drink refill, etc. The burgers seemed like the best thing I’ve ever eaten after the long hike. However, the place was predictably expensive. So, poor service, high prices, but very enjoyable food. So, 3 stars.

Love this place. Vey cool setting with plenty of outdoor seating. True German beer on tap adds to the flavorful food. We ordered some pretzels to start and I followed with the mixed sausage plate. I subbed spaetzle for mashed and it was sinful! All three sausages were flavorful wih the kraut working with them wonderfully. And the gravy, my gawd the gravy. So good. Our server forgot our pretzels and they came after the main courses had arrived which is why the 4 instead of 5. She handled this in a classy manner and did not charge us for them, however. Can’t wait to go back!

I was surprised and impressed to see a German Restaurant with a few vegetarian options; and they were good! Thanks, Bavarian! Cute atmosphere too.

We had SOMUCHFUN spending time here for our apres ski. Cute little log cabin feel nestled near chair 4 with waiters and waitresses dressed and talking like true Germans. They serve the lunch menu until 3:30, at which time they have an apres ski menu from 3:30 — 5:30 before the dinner menu comes out. The apres menu included such items as 2 pretzels for $ 3(what?!) and goulash, both of which were super fresh and warm, hitting the spot after skiing all day. They have a great german beer selection, paving the way for an extra-enjoyable ski via the beautiful, easy Rubezail trail back to the village :) This trail supposedly closes to skiers wanting to return at 4:30, although a local told us she has skied back at 6:00 without anyone noticing or caring. If you’re not that daring, there is a shuttle that will take you back. I’ll most definitely be back nearly every time I ski at Taos.

A beer and a bretzel here around 2 pm is the best skiier respite On the mountain. This timing is important because the Lunch crowd has mostly cleared out and the sun is still high in the sky! Hurry up though because the sun sets on the Bavarian by 3:15 and lift 4 closes at 3:50!

Not a lot of food options when skiing, so the Bavarian makes for a great choice thanks to its convenience, relatively reasonable prices, quick service, and strong menu. The food is decent-to-good, but that’s a big complement in a ski resort. Strongly recommended.

Had a great experience at the Bavaria. The place was recommended by my wife’s boss who is a German. We weren’t disappointed. Food was great, the atmosphere even better. There was some music festival going on during the Labor Day weekend, which made it more memorable. The waiting staff were more than helpful accommodating with our little one’s needs. That too, despite the fact that they were so busy. Highly recommended!

The Bavarian has incredible German food… good enough to drive all the way to the Ski Valley for. The several sizes of beers are excellent, as is the selection. Personal favorites are goulash(With incredible rosemary bread) and spatzle… and their sausages are very tasty.

Five stars because this is as good as it gets, in New Mexico anyway. My family and I attempted to get last-minute reservations on a Saturday night, but they couldn’t seat us until 8 pm(too late with little kids) so we made our reservation for 6 the next day without any problems. The interior really isn’t all that big, perhaps 10 – 12 tables, so reservations are a must for dinner, at least during any holiday weekend or peak season. The drive, alone, was beautiful, though dark by the time we got to the top. FYI: The road signs indicate that 4/All-wheel drive is required on the mountain during the winter. The restaurant sits at 10,200 ft. Apparently a lot of people ski here and stop for lunch/beer. I didn’t make it up the Kachina lift while I was skiing, but someday. The place is really cool and you feel like you are truly in a Bavarian lodge. I’ll cut to the chase since so many others have described the ambiance already. I had an 18 oz. Franziskaner Hefeweizen-not a hard beer to find in Albuquerque, but it is one of my favorites. It came in a tall Hofbräuhaus glass. My husband had a glass of wine and the kids had hot chocolate. We were served fresh bread with a hint of rosemary(just right-some places put too much rosemary in their bread, overpowering it). We started with the plain spaetzle. I’d never had such creamy spaetzle before and was surprised at how much cheese was in it. It was good and of course the kids loved it. My main course was the mixed sausage plate with extra sauerkraut. My kids shared one of these, as well. We were also given a selection of three mustards. My husband first ordered the grilled pork loin, but they were out of it so he went for the jagershcnitzel, a bread pork cutlet. Everything was fantastic, a ton of food with lots of leftovers. We did not have desert and left very full and satisfied. This place really made our weekend ski trip awesome. I’d definitely like to come back here and will highly recommend the Bavarian Restaurant to my family and friends.
