Byzantium

We just got home from a delicious meal at Byzantium. The pork tenderloin was perfect, and my wife can’t stop talking about the chicken chipotle. It’s one of the best rooms anywhere — a perfect setting for a relaxed and exquisite meal. We’ll be back frequently!

Fresh baked in house bread. Fresh local ingredients. Unique cozy atmosphere perfect for an intimate dining experience. Everything is excellent from the presentation to the personal service. The ever changing delicious menu items will have you coming back for more. Thank you Skot for the memories and making every dining experience at Byzantium a great one throughout the years.

We returned for a second night. The food is amazing. Local ingredients, story and charm. Look forward to seeing Scott and his food next time we are in town.

Great experience all around. If your looking for an intimate dining experience go here. Only 7 tables so reservations is a must. But don’t be surprised if your the only ones in the restaurant. I’m almost certain he plans it this way. The owner, host, waiter, cook, and bus boy is the same guy. The chat pre dinner was great, food was exceptional and wine was amazing. On top of it all, he chased me down the street when I dumbly left my purse at the table. If your in to the laid back Taos vibe, this is your place.

Starting with the warmth of the interior and the boho décor., this restaurant is a silent gem in Taos. It was intimate the waiter was well informed and excited about his job and the food was great with a unique presentation. We would definitely visit this place again.

This was one of the best casual fine dining experiences I can recall. If you want expertly prepared food that is beautifully presented, you can’t go wrong with Byzantium. Great atmosphere, flawless service and perfectly proportioned food made for a really enjoyable and relaxing meal.

We spent last evening enjoying the ambiance of Scott’s restaurant, and found the food delectable. The shrimp appetizer and vegetable soup starters were wonderful, and among us, we enjoyed the pork tenderloin, the filet, the chicken and the Mediterranean and couscous fish dish. Each was exceptionally well prepared, with subtle flavor so unique to each dish. We finished the meal with the bread pudding and chocolate truffles, and actually wanted to lick the plates. You won’t find a better meal most anyplace in the country!

My son and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Because we were early (6:30) we and our cook plus his assistant gave us 1 on 1 service. This meant that we could talk about his hand-​crafted bread (nice flavor but we suggested a few more kneading cycle would benefit the doughy center) and his home-​made marmalade (excellent). Starters were good — soup of the day was light and full of veggies. Goat cheese salad used a strongly peppered cheese that worked. Steak was nicely presented in a tower format — we discussed how nice this looked but it is hard to cut steak that has a 2 cm layer of tasty semi-​mashed potatoes under it (he will look for other options for the presentation). My impression of the nicely buttered steak was that it was close to 1 level over cooked. My Rare request came nicely Medium Rare — keep that in mind when ordering. The Spanish-​style seafood and couscous was good and had more than enough couscous for hungry patrons.
By the time we left, only one trio arrived — Thursday night may not be a busy night.

Food was delicious but paying $ 24 for a pork loin, one would expect it to be larger than 4 Oz. Portion sizes are too small especially for hungry skiers.

A delightful place, a hidden gem! The restaurant is lovely, romantic, intimate with only 8 – 10 tables and unique décor. The menu is short but very creative. The food is delicious, amazing flavors and pres Scott, the owner is the chef and waiter.
I cannot say enough good things about this incredible dining experience.
Byzantium is necessary stop if you are visiting Taos. I highly recommend this restaurant!

I’m just not sure why I can’t seem to order a medium rare steak in Taos — The red cabbage salad and feta had a little too much balsamic dressing — the bread cost $ 4 extra & it’s not that great so save your appetite! On a positive note the ambiance is lovely music selection was great & they did bring another steak done perfectly along with a very yummy dessert. I will be back!

A lady friend and I were spending the weekend in Taos and were looking for a wonderful restaurant to compliment our amazing Bed and Breakfast experience (at the Old Taos Guesthouse) and are so happy we found Byzantium.
There are a small number of tables well-​spaced to ensure intimacy. The food is masterfully done, but is done so without pretension. We went dressed rather casually, and felt completely appropriate, but would have felt equally appropriate wearing a tux and evening dress. The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy while also intimate and romantic.
You would be hard pressed to find an all-​around better dining experience in Taos.

We have eaten here with Scott for over 10 years. They have the best overall experience in Taos. If you don’t live it, call me and I’ll pay for your meal!

We went to Byzantium for Christmas dinner and couldn’t have been more pleased. It was as if we were invited into someone’s beautiful home and fixed a lovingly prepared meal. Scott, the owner, was engaging and a joy to talk to. The food was fresh and full of wonderful tastes and aromas. Scott bakes his own bread, and it I could eat it everyday, I would. We pared our dinner with a wonderful Spanish wine, but were sadly to full to try dessert. I guess we’ll just have to come back:)

Another wonderful dinner/​experience at Byzantium. Food was excellent as before, and it is so refreshing to eat at a restaurant where the sound is subdued, the lighting is perfect and the ambiance is not the least bit calculated. The proprietor/​chef Scott really cares and it shows. Definitely try the hot and sour soup if it is on the menu.

I called on a Monday night after I’d been disappointed by eating at the Mexican place the locals recommend. So I decided I still had room for dessert. I arrived at 8 and it was slow. Very nice ambiance and perfect for a romantic dessert! I had a chocolate mousse with homemade mint ice cream. Sounds rich? It was! I’ll be back next time I’m in town for dinner.

We were there this Memorial Day Weekend. Unluckily for the owner we were the only people there but we were so lucky — food was delicious, loved the wine menu, thought the atmosphere was lovely… we just had a great time. Thank you!
