Amazingly delicious food. I had a stuffed sopa with green chile sauce and it was yummy. Our server was a very sweet lady who sat down to take our order and answer our questions. I’d definitely recommend to anyone. The only thing I wasn’t happy about is that, for some reason, they were painting the bathroom in the middle of the lunch hour.

I’ll start off with the good part of this review. They were very kind about altering the taco plate to make it vegan for me. Beans, guacamole(comes on the side), lettuce and tomato. Best tacos ever. I had requested no cheese, no dairy, no sour cream just to cover all the basis. Well, the tacos had no cheese, but the beans on the plate with rice were sprinkled with cheese. Since the tacos were great, I let that go. I don’t like being a bitchy vegan but no cheese on a taco plate order… one would kinda assume that means the entire plate. Everything is made fresh and to order. That’s awesome. We rolled into town just before they were closing. We didn’t realize the time(traveling through time changes) and they still had an open sign so we went in. Moments later it was obvious to us that they were preparing to close. i.e. Mopping, locking door, turning off neon open sign. I thanked them for accommodating us. The mopping lady asked us if it was ok if she continued to mop and of course we said that’s fine. Okay, so tbh we felt a little uncomfortable with them closing. I just know how it feels to think you get to go home in a few minutes and boom a family arrives to eat. It’s gotta suck. So. My 9 year old niece asked for queso. The waitress didn’t know what queso was and asked the mopping lady«do we have queso?». Well, we didn’t expect a lecture on «New Mexicans are not Mexicans». The lady who appeared to be the owner and mopping stopped her mopping to discuss this. It appeared my niece offended her by asking for queso. Anyhow, after the lecture, we really felt uncomfortable. A simple«no, we don’t have queso» would have worked for us. Anytime our sweet waitress tried to talk with us on a personal level, the mopping lady would interrupt her and snap her fingers at her to do something. We felt even more uncomfortable. We ate our food as fast as possible to not inconvenience them anymore. We gave our sweet waitress a nice cash tip but she had to hand it over to mopping lady. Darn it. I’m sure that’s what they have to do but we hoped she got to keep the entire tip. I’m thinking our experience might have been different if we had arrived an hour or so earlier and not at closing time. And if we had not mistakenly ordered queso to go with the chips and salsa we ordered. The place is small and a little rustic looking around the edges but looked very clean. We were only in Taos the one night but if ever in the area again, I would go back… earlier in the day/evening. Like I said, best tacos ever.

Wow! I really don’t have anything to add. This is our second trip to Taos and Ricky’s is the best! Great food, excellent service and super friendly people. They can make you feel like family.

Best after-skiing dive in the county!!! Delicious, authentic, quality New Mexican cuisine! I had the tamale and enchilada combo, Christmas style. It was outstanding! The red chile had a warm spice and the green chile was flavorfully one of the tastiest I’ve had. I’m a big guy and after skiing hard for 8 hours, hitting the top of the mountain over and over — the combo plate that was less than $ 10 was so filling, that I barely had room for my sopapilla! The sopapilla was the best. I’ve ever had. The sides of beans and rice tasted almost homemade style. Great, fast, service for $ 10 a plate!

Hole-in-the-wall, home-style cooking in Northern New Mexico. Of course it’s good! Not the best I’ve ever had, but still very good. The sister of the owner(Ricky), served us and she was so sweet and friendly. Her nephew, a boy of about 10, also brought us drinks and utensils. I had a combo with a chile relleno and tamale. The relleno was stuffed with actual cheddar cheese – not Velveeta, like most places. The tamale was great. I had red chile on the tamale and green on the relleno. The chile sauces were full of flour, but they were still pretty good(and spicy). Good whole beans and the Spanish rice was alright. I’m not a huge Spanish rice fan, so I’m not judging them on this. Service was nice, the food wasn’t expensive. Everyone left happy. I look forward to making this my new regular stop when in or driving through Taos. MOSTIMPORTANTLY, the best sopaipillas I’ve had. Ever. And I’m a native New Mexican. I’d come back just for the sopas.

Great New Mexican cuisine in a small, friendly place. I had the chicken enchilada plate with green chile. Great chile, just the right level of heat. Didn’t burn the tongue but at the same time hot enough to let you know you wewe eating chile. Served with rice, whole pintos, and a hot sopapilla with honey.

Good southwestern food and great service. Small locally run restaurant that has delicious green chile sauce. The owner brought out his homemade sauces and salsas for us to try while we waited for our food.

this is a local place serving local style food. it is not taco bell or upscale. if you want a new experience try it. we were there on a Friday night during the holidays so service was slow, but the waitress never forgot us. the sopisilla was fantastic!!! everything else was unique and tasty.

The people were really friendly, however it was a disappointing experience. Definitely the worst coffee I’ve ever had! The sopapias were probably the best thing on the menu! Everything else was just OK. As someone from out of town, I wish I would have gone somewhere else or looked at the reviews first! Oh well!

We saw this restaurant on our way into Taos and stopped because my dad’s name is Ricky. The salsa was nice and spicy although the chips and sopapillas should have been fried in hotter oil. Our main meals were delicious(enchiladas and chalupitas) and the service was wonderful! We will be back! (I was actually here a year ago, so I am not sure it is still around, but I hope so!!)

Stopped by on our way out of taos for some quick Mexican food. Though slightly more expensive than expected, the customer service was very good and the food was not bad. The tamales were delicious if just a little salty.

This past October 2011 found us in Taos. We stopped into Ricky’s for a meal. It’s a Mom and Pop. Mom and family were there and it was Pop’s day off. We came for a late lunch and it was not crowded at all(as it was earlier when we drove by). The food was okay, generous portions… but… I am always put off when I find my burritos and tacos filled with ground meat as opposed to shredded beef. I was told it was New Mexican cuisine. Not sure what that means exactly. I don’t know if it is a traditional Mexican thing, or an Americanized-Mexican-now-New-Mexican thing. Ground beef is what my Mom did when she didn’t have time to do a roast for the shredded beef, and wanted to make a quick meal. She fried up some ground beef and added some spices which was usually a packet of Shilling Taco Seasoning Mix. To me it translates as cheap and easy. I expect a little better from a sit-down restaurant when paying for a meal. Maybe I’m not viewing this in the right light. My intent is not to insult. So two stars for the meal overall(it was a little bland — heat alone isn’t enough). We might eat here again just for the sopapillas(excellent), and choose something else from the menu. Breakfast looked good. We might try that. Another star for the friendly welcome and home style atmosphere.

Well ~ I was of course drawn in by the«beautiful blue» on the outside… in this case, I was«judging a book by it’s cover» — because the food was rather disappointing. No New Mexico sabor whatsoever :(Ordered a beef and bean basic burrito to go for boyfriend type. Got back to the casita only to find there was no beef! Just beans, and they tasted very much like they were out of a can. Had to go back to the restaurant and ask the infamous question; «where’s the beef»?! Pass this place by is my thought.

We stopped for breakfast at Ricky’s on the way out of Taos at 7AM last Sunday. Ricky was there as was an older lady(maybe his mom?) who welcomed us graciously. The blackboard(whiteboard in this case) specials included a green chili omelet with hashies and bacon. We decided to split one(they’re BIG) and also split a stack(three) of Ricky’s buttermilk pancakes. The omelet was good, and the green chiles were fresh. It was however, a bit bland. Salt and Pepper definitely helped, but there was something missing in terms of flavor. The hash browns and bacon were typically meh. On the other hand, pancakes were awesome! Big and fluffy. Soft on the inside and out. Very tasty. Maple Syrup was served warm. Service was good and friendly, but we were the only customers. Price was great. Less than 10 bucks for a single breakfast with enough food for two adults and a dog. Fairly uncommon in trendy Taos. Not the greatest, but we’d stop for breakfast again. One of the blackboard items was«Breakfast Sopapillas». Might have to try those next time we’re in town.

This place has NO pretensions. if you’re interested in the local NM diner action, you’ll appreciate Ricky’s. Crowded. I doubt it’s wheelchair accessible. I recommend their huge breakfast burritos, smothered with red. Inexpensive for a spendy-Wendy place like Taos. Very friendly, but table service can be a slow at take out time.

After a really depressing mini stop in Taos, where white people go to ogle at indigenous people pretending to live in the pueblo, we popped in to Ricky’s to grab one last bite of food before our flight out. Apparently everyone else got edible food except yours truly. I still don’t understand why all burritos in NM come covered in enchilada sauce and cheese. I also don’t understand why it took them twenty minutes to get it all to us. The staff was indifferent, the food was bad, and the bathroom? Don’t go there. Literally, just don’t go.

The nachos were horrendous. I can not believe that a self respecting Mex or even tex-mex-american place would serve that. Even taco bell has seasoned meat. I am unsure how it took 15 mins to brown some unseasoned beef and poor some cheese sauce over these chips, but it was unexceptionable. It seems that other people think their green chili is good… maybe if they would of added that to the nachos we wouldn’t still be kicking ourselves for paying $ 6 for nachos we did not even eat. It was sad. I am also surprised that although we were obviously not eating our food and were unhappy… that the waiter did not even inquire if there was a problem. Obviously there is a lack of care. I am greatly disappointed that anyone could think they were okay. If I could give it no stars I would. Here is a picture of the nachos:

Good diner food with a slight southwestern flair, prices a bit higher than typical diner. Diner standard atmosphere, friendly service. Smother your omelet or eggs in their green chili if you enjoy spicy, flavorful food-you won’t regret it. Some of the best green chili I’ve had. How’s that review for succinct?
