We had a great breakfast and coffee. Lots of high quality food and exceptional service. We tend to eat vegetarian but do still eat eggs and cheese. Saw lots of options. I had omelette with standard sides and a side order of grits. My wife had blueberry pancakes and our guest had oatmeal with blueberries added as a special request. They take reservations. Very interesting ambiance with antiques, art and an old house vibe. Definitely not a chain restaurant and definitely worth a visit.

This is a must stop when in the area! This place was good for breakfast but the lunch menu looks wonderful! I had the Chesapeake egg Benedict! The amount of fresh crab meat was amazing! The soups for lunch looked delicious! Again! A must stop when in this area. Service was very good!

Pricey for breakfast. Ticket for 2 was 25 dollars before tip. Food was good and portions were medium in size. The jacks are beignets apparently. We heard someone else mention home made apple butter that we could have gotten, but the waitress didn’t offer the option to us. Probably wouldn’t go here for a regular breakfast stop. but would be ok on occasion. Price just a little high for the type of location/setting might have paid these prices for a water view.

This is a great little restaurant in the heart of Tappahannock. It’s in an old house that’s been converted into a nice little restaurant. It has a little bit of an elegant atmosphere and a nice wait staff. Food is very good, haven’t gotten a bad meal there yet. Slightly pricey although is worth the extra.

We started with bacon, mushroom, spinach quiche as an appetizer! That quiche remind me of our visit to Paris years ago. I had oyster and sweet potato and my husband had a salad and wrap, so good!!! Our server Emily was friendly and the owner Mimi greeted us. Love the idea of this café selling antiques, too cute!

While in town for some volunteer work, I popped in hear after reading all the rave reviews. Unfortunately, my experience was just okay, not as stellar as many so other people’s. It took a while for me to be noticed and then it was only after I directed the staff’s attention to me – the hostess had taken notice of a couple who were regulars and was chatting with the; I felt a bit disregarded. Then she just kind of waved me into the café and went back to her conversation, which was a little off-putting. The waitress I had was pleasant enough; some might call her a little distant but I, personally, don’t mind that. I got the Chesapeake eggs which includes poached eggs, crabmeat, Hollandaise all atop the café’s signature«jacks» which are a dense-ish Italian bread. You can also get them served with powdered sugar like a beignet. They’re very tasty that way — I got three to go. While my breakfast did contain some beautifully poached eggs and a more than generous helping of crab, it was all quite bland to me. It needed salt and pepper, at the least, and the Hollandaise had virtually no lemony goodness. I was disappointed, a bit. Also, the fruit«side» was four 1″ cut pieces of fruit and a half of a strawberry. Come on now. That’s a garnish, not a side. If I was in the area I’d try it again, but I wouldn’t go out of my way.

Really good coffee! Good food, only problem was our server checked on us but didn’t clean the trash from the table, and my omelette & fried potatoes were cold. They must make the batch early:(Also, the $ 9.00($ 10 since we added two more toppings) omelette says it’s made with 3 eggs, they must be really small eggs! I’ll give them a second chance and update upon that visit!

We took a detour through Tappahannock on our way to Sandbridge, VA after being stuck behind an accident on I95 for entirely too long. I used Unilocal to find a restaurant in the area and Java Jacks had great reviews so I thought we’d stop to check it out. I’m so happy we did! We were greeted with a friendly smile when we walked in and that lovely hospitality carried through our entire visit. The food was fresh and made from scratch which was exactly what we needed after long day of traveling. If we ever take this detour again we’ll be sure to stop for another great meal!

Stopped here for an early lunch. Great atmosphere and service. The Jack’s bread was really tasty and the bisque hit the spot as well. Well worth a bit of a route diversion. The eggs Chesapeake would have been perfect, but the egg was slightly over… that being said, would order it again.

Make a point to eat here; excellent food and folks who make it happen. Found Java Jack’s via Unilocal while headed back to NC. Had choice of breakfast or lunch since it was 11am. While all the breakfast choices on the menu and neighboring tables looked enticing, as I was headed inland I wanted to take one last advantage of fresh Northern Neck seafood. My server was Megan, who was very friendly and attentive. The option of Crab Bisque as a side for an extra $ 1 was too good to pass up and it was very tasty, as was the accompanying slice of cornbread. The true star was the basket of fried oysters – succulent, sweet, lightly breaded and fried, and plenty of them. Oh my… what a delicious way to end a great vacation! Prices were both reasonable and a great value. Met owner Bill, running the cash register, who was also very personable. Will make a point to stop by next time I’m in the area.

This little cottage converted into an art gallery/restaurant/coffee shop is a gem. The menu is small, well-chosen and well-prepared. The food is super fresh. The staff is friendly and cheerful. Mimi and Bruce, the owners, are around often and make you feel as though you have wandered into a favorite aunt and uncle’s house to eat. The furniture and décor are sweet… pretty Provençal cotton tablecloths… but wait! We are here to eat not just visit! As for the food — I highly recommend the Eggs Chesapeake(eggs Benedict w/the Canadian bacon swapped out for a generous portion of lump crabmeat) and the crab cake sandwich. There is also a tasty turkey sandwich. The soups are SOGOOD. The crab bisque and the mushroom Brie are both amazing. I have eaten here countless number of times and have only just now gotten round to doing a review.

Bruce and Mimi’s place is the most inviting stop for a weary hungry traveler. This fine establishment goes out of their way to make you feel at home(even if you kinda miss their open hours!.) They special source their ingredients and the coffee is distinguished. It’s vitally important to support local small businesses like Java Jacks. This joint is authentic, hand made, home cooking at its best. Next time pass by a chain restaurant and meet some friendly people at Java Jacks!

Stopped in for a late brunch today on our way to Northern Virginia for the 4th of July weekend. What a treat! We started with a basket of «Jacks» and the then moved on to our lunch and breakfast entrees. The fish and chips was perfectly cooked and served in brown paper bag, which was a perfect presentation. My son raved about the blueberry French toast and I had the French dip and waffle fries. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. Don’t pass this place up as you drive through downtown! Will definitely stop in again.

In Tappahannock for a wedding and the front desk recommended Java Jacks for breakfast. It was so good, we booked our party of 22 there for breakfast tomorrow. Service was fast, friendly & warm. Food was excellent. I had their blueberry french toast with sausage & bacon. It was perfectly done. Make sure you order«Jacks» for the table! Others in our party had egg sandwiches on croissants, which were highly regarded. The omelets were delicious as well. Highly recommend Java Jacks for breakfast and I would expect lunch as well!!!

Passing thru the area and stopped for lunch. This is a very cute restaurant. All tables have cloth tablecloths and there is vintage signs throughout the restaurant. Seat yourself and enjoy the charm. I had the spinach salad, minus bacon, with poppyseed dressing and also an order of sweet potato fries. The salad hit the spot and the sweet potato fries were yummy. My husband had the Eggs Chesapeake. Poached eggs, hollandaise sauce with a lot of crab meat over an english muffin. It was really good. Our server was very friendly. At first, we missed the street it is on, Virginia, it’s a small street with a tiny street sign. Also, parking is in the back. Overall, we’re very happy we stopped here.

What a delightful visit we had with Mimi and her gang! From an immediate warm reception upon walking in the door to the immediate attention from the server upon being seated! I’ve wanted to visit this quaint eaterie for as long as it has been open and just never made the time to stop! Today was the day that we stopped! BOY were we delighted — throughout — our entire visit! The owner Mimi comes over and introduces herself and shares her story! I LOVE the story and what it means to an owner. In this fast paced world where everyone is trying to be like everyone else — this place shines! Our food was brought out super swiftly! Our lunches had us ooohing and ahhhhhing to the last bite. We chose the Tuscan Lemon Cheesecake for dessert and it was beyond great! Couldn’t leave without a coffee in hand! Thanks to all for making our visit super nice! We’ll be back soon!

The only thing wrong with Java Jacks is the it’s described as a Coffee House. Though the coffee is first class, it is so much more than that. My wife and I stumbled upon it on one of those«wandering around» trips we occasionally take from our home in Glen Allen(roughly 50 miles southwest). Today we visited for a second time – this time on purpose. Big picture: Java Jacks looks to be a house converted to a restaurant so the scale and feel is particularly homey. Today, we sat on what, originally, would have been the wrap-around front porch – now a bright, windowed room. The walls are decorated with vintage porcelain signs and the tables are draped with colorful fabrics. The service is just what you’d want it to be, attentive and friendly. The food,(I can speak for the fish and chips) was fresh, hot, and perfectly cooked – golden brown, crispy fillets and waffle-cut fries served in a paper bag – accompanied by a side order of homemade slaw(guessing on that) and a tangy tartar sauce. I hate to sound so effusive, but I get such a charge out of places like this – small businesses that seem willing to spend the time and energy necessary to do things well, to pay attention to the details, and to do it all with a smile. We’ll be back.
