The only bad thing I can say is that this lovely museum closes early Fridays so I didn’t allow quite enough time to absorb all of the wonderful art exhibited. But the good thing is that, know that I know how good it is, I can simply return, again and again. Located on a college campus, the building itself makes quite a statement as you turn towards the parking area. Designed by the award-winning architect E.C. Hoffman Jr., its shape is similar to the bow of a ship, a sly reference to the still vital fishing and sponging community of Tarpon Springs. Perched well away from the road and overlooking a small body of water, the structure does seem to be serenely afloat and even adrift. I loved the interior design the broke the space into separate sections that seemed to slowly reveal themselves as I roamed through the 53,000-square-foot building. I greatly enjoyed the permanent and traveling exhibitions and look forward to what more may be in store. There seems to be a lot of thought and planning that goes into what is shown here and that shows! The staff and volunteers on duty were extremely gracious and helpful.

It is home to Rattner’s artwork and also some of his wife and son’s. Has a few other small exhibits, a gift shop, and an interactive area for children.

Small museum that has some rotating exhibits worth checking out. Free if you attend the college…
