Nuevo Machete was a gamble. With no cars in the parking lot and NOBODY inside on a Friday night at 6:30. But we tried it. Service was good. Polite and helpful waitress. The food was really bland. The salsa 3 types given for you meal and chips was very bland. Food quality was good. Service was good. Just NO flavor!!!

Total low key, nondescript, almost divey Mexican place. I tend to favor Mexican restaurants when I am not sure of my choices while on the road because there is always a generous vegetarian option in the menu, or you can always customize one of the dishes to meet your needs. So while driving through Taylorsville on my way to meet a client, Nuevo Machetes was the only non franchise, non corporate restaurant that called my attention. Excellent service amid a sparse dining area, my quesadilla came out with a load of good, tasty veggies and my batido de platano simply hit the spot. At less than 20 bucks I was more than satisfied and quite pleased with the service and experience. Don’t expect much more that a quaint, quiet, authentic Mexican Restaurant; Mariachis won’t be busting through the door anytime soon, but you will no doubt be entertained by the latest chapter of the Mexican novela on the large screen TV. In one word, this place is: Good !

I wanted to try a new restaurant so I decided to try Machetes! This place serves the more authentic style Mexican food. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and a Sope. The Sope was pretty good I think it needed maybe a little more flavor but it was ok. The quesadilla was huge! It was about 3 times the size I thought it was going to be and I was excited to tear into it. Unfortunately the quesadilla was pretty bland. All in all I think this place is ok. I think it definitely has potential. Advise for the owner: put napkins, salt and pepper at the tables. Some kind of salsa bar would be nice. I would tweek the recipes a little to give more flavor. Fix the inside of the restaurant with some decorations. And the parking lot is messed up and it makes your place look bad.

Okay, where to begin. So I have been going to Los Machetes for years and years… it’s my favorite Mexican restaurant in Utah… and when Nuevo Machetes popped up, I was intrigued… I wondered if it was just a new location… the Nuevo(New) in the name kind of threw me off. What had happened is, the owner sold the other location and opened up this«new» Machetes. I think that there’s a problem with the name change, couldn’t really understand. Unto the restaurant and the food. The place needs to have its lights turned on. Needs more decorations to make it seem lively and inviting. It was kind of weird eating in a place where the lights were all turned off. The service was incredibly slow, but I give them a pass since they just opened and it lets me know that the food is fresh. Now, we ordered an asada quesadilla suprema. Suprema just meant that it was a 20-inch long quesadilla that we split in half. Also got a cochinita pibil taco as well as a barbacoa taco. The food, as expected, is pretty damn tasty, so no complaints there. The watermelon agua was great, the mango not so much. They have so much room for improvement. They need to have napkins, salt, and pepper at every table. Every table only had a salt shaker. I enjoyed the fact that chips and salsa are given when you sit down, but honestly, more than one salsa choice should be served. All in all, the ambience and service were subpar, but the food was good enough to make me give this place 3 stars. I will be back in a couple of months to see if it’s better.
