My husband and I lived at the Commons for 29 months and just moved out on 12÷31÷09. We chose the Commons to live when we moved to Arizona because of it’s proximity to Arizona State University, the fact it was 2 bedrooms/2 baths, and because it’s pet friendly. All of the condos are individually owned — about half are occupied by the owner and the other half are rented out to seniors at ASU, graduate students, and young professionals. Even though the complex is located two blocks from ASU, it is almost always quiet and you don’t have to worry about crazy shenangians during the week. We did have a few problems with random Tuesday night parties the first few months we lived at the Commons, but once that guy moved out, it has been extremely pleasant. The HOA has a property management company that is responsible for the landscaping, pool, and overall community maintenance. Since we moved in, the pool has been completely re-done, new lounge chairs were purchased, and a new volleyball net was purchased. People in the community are very friendly and during the year there are weekly Tuesday night volleyball games and random BBQs that all are invited to. Since the community is pet friendly, there are also two pet stations in the complex. The Commons is located around the corner from the Dorsey/Apache light rail station, so it’s about a three minute walk to that. The University/Rural station is a bit further, but is less than a ten minute walk. Four Peaks is also nearby and is about a five minute walk. Plus there is Pita Jungle, five liquor stores, Hungry Howie’s, Dos Gringos, and the Vine all within walking distance as well. Since each unit is individually owned, they are all a bit different depending on what upgrades the owner has made. However, they are all basically the same setup — first floor units are a single story with two master suites and second floor units are townhouse style with the kitchen and living room on one floor and the two master suites upstairs. The layout is perfect for roommates, but there are a handful of married couples in the complex that enjoy the setup. For graduate students at ASU, this is a great complex with a very convenient location to campus and the light rail. For what we needed while living in Tempe, it was perfect and for that reason the Commons gets four stars.
