My daughter and I went there for lunch yesterday. It was our first time and we were impressed immediately. Lovely décor, professional staff and the food was excellent. Our waiter, Dustin, was charming, funny and made our dining experience a delight. Their steak was the best I’ve ever had. We will be back and I am telling everyone about this wonderful place!

I have been to Cheeves many times. I love the crab cakes, firecracker shrimp, chicken salad on croissant and grape salad. I have never eaten their steaks but they do look scrumptious. The service is always excellent and the atmosphere is very nice.

When looking up top rated hot spots in Temple you can’t miss Cheeves Bros Steak House. Located in downtown Temple, this spot is easy to miss, tucked away on a side street with modest signage. When you walk in, this place is anything but modest! High ceilings, amazing wine cellar and a spacious dining room. I was seated very quickly and met my waiter Johnathan who performed very well during my lunch visit. The menu is almost simple. High quality steaks, some seafood dishes and some sides. Towards the back of the menu there is a casual menu which is slang for lunch menu. I was slightly disappointed in the options of the lunch menu. I was also very fearful because of the significant price difference in dinner /lunch. I immediately thought, «Oh boy, for that low of a price I’m going to get something I could have got at a diner.» I decided I wanted to try one of their outstanding steaks. But come to find out they don’t serve anything with a Hollandaise sauce on it before 5pm. This was a SHOCK! Does that mean the only person besides myself who knows how to make it, doesn’t come in to work before 5pm? This caused me to land on the Garlic Tenderloin from their lunch menu. When my meal arrived, I was blown away again! Although seemingly simple, my plate looked amazing. The food was hot, prepared just for me when I ordered it, and made and cooked to the standard I would have expected from the prices posted on their dinner menu! The tenderloin was cooked to the perfect temperature and had so much flavor I didn’t know what to do with myself! My experience was outstanding at Cheeves Bros because their chef prepared my economic lunch item at the quality level I would have expected of their high cost dinner! Hats off to you sir!

Had a Delicious, tender, properly cooked steak here, but the bartender was overwhelmed and they took back my steak on their first attempt because they noticed some disappointingly unsavory gristle as I cut into it. In the end, they put forth reasonable effort to make up for the shortcomings. Steak1 — 3 stars Steak2(the do over) — 4.5 stars Experience — 3 stars In Temple on business, gave this place a try on my last night before heading home. I wanted a really good steak, and this is the place in Temple to get it. Bartender was busy, but the place wasn’t swamped with customers. That caused service to be slow and the bartender needed help. She was working as fast as good bartenders do, but it took 20 minutes for me to get my food order placed and my second drink. Got a 9oz tenderloin with baked potato, and ceased salad. Salad came first, and it was delicious. I like a little more dressing so order some on the side. I don’t usually eat croutons, but near the end, tried one, and had to eat them all. They were homemade and a delicious addition! Steak and potato came out next. They had me cut into my steak to make sure it was how I liked it(rare is the only way!). It was tough, and I was immediately disappointed and heartbroken. My first meal of the day, looked forward to this all day, and I could have gotten the same gristly piece of meat at Texas Roadhouse. She saw this, and probably my defeated look, and she asked me if she could take it back and get me a new one. I obliged, and kept the loaded potato. The potato was strange. Menu says they boil it in bubble gum rosin, which is foreign process for me. The outside is black and like a shell, while the inside was tender. I won’t get that again. I regret not getting something else The second steak was absolutely wonderful. Almost perfect. For a rare steak, they could have only improved by leaving it on the grill for 20 more seconds. A good steak should be able to stand on its own. When I ordered, the bartender said most people add the reduction or one of their various Au Jus to the steak. I got the Merlot reduction on the side, and I’m glad I did. The steak was flavorful and needed nothing added, but the merlot reduction would have been delicious to try on something more like a sirloin or a less delicate steak. Bartender offered me another potato with my steak, which I declined, and their manager comped my glass of wine. They put forth good effort to make up for the issues, but this is an honest review.

Went for a business type meeting where there was a pre-selected menu. Of course, steak was on the menu and that was what I got. They gave healthy portions despite not being a full menu. The steak came with a wine glaze, that was a bit strong in my opinion. The glaze overpowered the steak a bit in my opinion. Otherwise the remainder of the meal was good. I cannot comment on pricing, but from looking at the menu $$$ is accurate, but, again, portion size was substantial.

Took my husband to Cheeves to celebrate a work achievement– the service was impeccable. We had the oysters rock as an appetizer which were great, and the Malbec that was recommended was phenomenal. The beer selection is also decent for a restaurant known for its wine selection. We each had the prime rib eye which was perfectly cooked to our individual liking. We left wishing we had room for dessert. We will definitely return.

Definitely need a reservation for a weekend dinner. I made our reservation about two weeks in advance. The appetizers are extremely expensive($ 15 for 4 pieces of shrimp). Entrees are well priced. Stayed long enough for wine and dessert. Food was delicious! They have a variety from steaks, pasta, chicken, and seafood. Dim and candlelight dining. Great relaxed atmosphere. Didn’t feel rushed to pay and leave. Stayed for a few hours and enjoyed a 3 course meal. Dress appropriately!

Simply put, their steak is one of the best I’ve ever had. It is incredibly tender; just melts in your mouth. With the tenderloin you get a choice of sauce. Personally I recommend sauce on the side – if you want it great, otherwise it’s drowning – and ask for it to be topped with butter. Trust me. The baked potato was okay. Others really enjoyed their creamed spinach and baked sweet potato. The food came out quickly but the service could be slow, although the dining room was far from full. However, the waiters accommodated every special request and everything came out perfectly. Nowwwww to the desserts. Let me begin with: I’m a pastry cook. Making crème brûlée is literally my business. You should always have the custard premade because it needs a lot of time, but ONLY brûlée the top to order. They had way premade theirs – brûlée and all – and put it in the fridge so the topping was soft. So you miss out on the crunchy topping that is essential to the dish, and you have no idea when it was made, how fresh it is. Yall, it takes literally thirty seconds to torch the thing. Put the custard in the fridge, then torch to order. Cheesecake jubilee was enjoyed – he said the cheesecake didn’t seem to be the freshest but tasted«alright!» So go! But maybe skip dessert.

This place is great. Love it when I can support a local business and not be disappointed. Had the 9 Oz filet cooked in a merlot reduction. It was cooked to perfection and delicious. Don’t normally do a baked potato but the description of being boiled in some kind of gum resin intrigued me. It was so light, fluffy, and full of flavor. Salad was fresh. Looking forward to dining here again.

On our way to Dallas, we decided to stop in either Temple or Waco depending on what sounded good per Unilocal.Cheeves reviews sounded the best among the choices. We eat out in fine dining restaurants almost every night in Dallas so our expectations were not that high. After looking at the wine list and getting our bread we were very impressed! I had the rum buttered scallops and my husband had the ranchero tenderloin. Perfectly cooked. I have to say, this restaurant could easily hold its own to many in Dallas. We finished with some crazy number of layers chocolate cake. OUTSTANDING — and neither of us is a chocolate fiend so imagine a mile high moist, not too dense, not too sweet chocolate cake paired with vanilla ice cream and imagine it in your mouth. But enough about the food. The service was impeccable. Thanks to Deedee(sp?). Great experience.

Make sure they get your order right and they repeat it back to you. Waitress brought out the wrong item, claimed I told ordered it and that she repeated our order to us… Neither of that happened. Needless to say I wasn’t refunded. Not very customer service oriented whatsoever considering the steep prices. You should make the bill and order right if you want customers to return. Steaks were great, but I won’t be back.

We had three great things here: a. service b. truffled mashed potatoes and c. dirty martinis. Everything else was good or okay but not great. Our friends had really pumped up the spot and we were rubbing our hands in proverbial anticipation. It’s beautiful inside, intimate, romantic, classic, somehow timeless. Our bartender shook up a perfect dirty martini which we have any tips or table. And not to my obsession with that dish when I was a kid, and everyone else just got steak. We also started with appetizers including crab cakes, fried shrimp and oysters. The oysters were just terrible. They were a combination of everything gross. Our steaks ended up being good, though a little bit too pricey for what we received. I truly experience and I’m not writing this place off. I would go back if I were in the area but I’m not sure I’d make a special trip.

Came here as they had a Unilocal ad thinking that they are on the good side of the mixed reviews ie took a chance Service — hostess as expected, on biz so party of 1 at bar, bar tender nice and competent, before seat opened up at bar, asked one of the younger male waiters if high top tables close to bar are first come first serve he responded with«I don’t know…» Wtf then later the same idiot was counting money over my iPad and other personal stuff at my bar spot(I got up to hit the head)… Food– Lobster bisque ZERO lobster. Salmon not bad not great — just ok. Overall experience — it will be hard to go back — given selection in the town — may have to go.

Visiting Temple and was taken back my this amazing Steak restaurant. First the inside is beautiful and architecturally breathtaking, perfect date night spot. We started with raw oysters and the cheese plate. Both 5 stars. Then lobster bisque done perfect. Dinner was perfect every person dish done to perfection. While eating the Chef even came table side to ask how our dinner was. Chef James I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect night.

This used to be hands-down the nicest place in Temple, and by far the best place to get a steak. Recently, however, there has been a change in the menu(as others have noted). Along with this change seems to be a drastic shift in attitude and quality. The steaks are all now served in a pool of au jus(the beef broth traditionally served with a french dip sandwich). This results in all of the steaks feeling like very cheap meat, despite their $ 35+ price tag. I can think of at least 3 places in Temple that now have a better steak. The side dishes have also changed. I have had the asparagus and the sauteed veggies, and I’m fairly confident that both came from the microwavable frozen«steamer bags» you can find at the grocery store. Gone are the delicious fresh steamed asparagust that you can find at most other steakhouses. The seafood entrees are still quality. Since the change, we have enjoyed the stuffed salmon, the salmon, and the firecracker shrimp. Not sure that will keep us coming back though…
