Went to Chucks yesterday, 3÷26÷16 my wife and I both had the 2 piece catfish! We both had pinto beans; she had okra and I had slaw! Her catfish was about ¼″ thick, mine was About 1/8″ thick. It was obvious the they did not know how to cook catfish with two different thicknesses and they were not even close to the catfish we had eat there a week or so! Maybe that’s due to the supplier selling irregular filets? Mine was tough as all get out and I would have returned them but they were very busy; took 40 minutes to get our order. The pinto beans were too salty and we couldn’t eat them, got a refund of 1.00 each. What was surprising was they knew they were to salty but kept serving them even after other customers had made the salty comments about them! Obviously, they don’t know that Chili Powder tends to make things salty too or don’t care? The slaw was ok but nothing to write home about but the okra was very good. Not sure when and/or if we will go back there!

This is my go to place when I’m in the mood for catfish! It’s very good. They should have better sides though. Not impressed with the taste of their hush puppies.

Fried catfish and pinto beans are really good. I believe this is the best catfish in the Temple/Belton area have yet to find another restaurant that has better fried fish than Chuck’s

This place has some really good bar-b-que. I loved their bbq potato filled with brisket. I think their bbq sauce was fantastic! It was thick and had a small kick to it but not so much that I(a self-proclaimed spice-wuss) couldn’t handle it. My group of 4 had a full-size order of onion rings and we barely finished it! Those onion rings were HUGE! I had to cut them in half before I could eat them. They were obviously hand-breaded and delicious. Our service was ok but I think that may have been because we were waiting for a ticket. We didn’t realize that we could just walk up to the cashier at the front. I was a little disappointed in the sweet tea. It was just ok. Nothing to write home about but acceptable. This place is small so if you have a group bigger than 4, you may want to call and see if there is room. We went on a Wednesday evening so it wasn’t crowded but I think at one point every table was in use. I saw a lot of people come in to pick-up call-in orders. Overall, it was a good meal for the price. Expect to spend $ 10 – 15 per plate and you will be full. It looks like they have all-you-can-eat catfish on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Hands down the best place I have eaten since we moved back to Temple. You wouldn’t expect such a small place to have so much flavor, but this place makes Cracker Barrel look bad, really bad. In fact, I may never eat at Cracker Barrel again(though I will still go there for knick knacks). The fried okra was fresh, as in just out of the oil and you can tell it’s hand breaded. So good. What surprised me even more is the two young men that were doing all the cooking. Hell, they could have been teenagers for all I know. They make some damned good BBQ though and my wife raved about the catfish. The waitress doing our table had the strongest Texan accent I have heard in a while, and I was born in Temple. The problem with living in Yankee Maryland for so long is I lost a lot of my accent, so it was refreshing to hear it again so strong. Just remember that this place is going through some growing pains since its popularity is growing. I am sure the owner will have to expand soon, since when we went to pay our bill the front of the restaurant was packed with people looking to pick up food. It was hard to pay because of the line! Regardless, the place is great and I will be returning.

food was great! just way overpriced!!! the waitress accidentally gave my food to another customer and he breathed all over it. she still tried to give it to me after that. I asked to take it back and she reluctantly did so.

I love their catfish and green beans! I haven’t really ever had anything else here because I fell in love with the catfish and I’ve been sold ever since. Their baked potatoes are pretty good too and they will put some BBQ in it for you! I don’t agree at all with the people that say that this place should stay hidden. This place is a gem and those that find it are lucky and will have a great food experience that will keep them coming back for more.

The food is okay, and would get 3.5−4 stars if the the service wasn’t rotten. I have had to get up and leave after sitting at the table for more than 30mins with not even an offer of a drink. The chef is real nice, but I’d rather use this place as a spot for«to-go» meals rather than dining in. I would make the drive down to Old Jody’s in Temple any day over this place. They need to step up their game because of the competition in the area. I wish them luck because I love for little mom-and-pops to make it, but lately… They just don’t cut it.

Came here for their fried catfish, so no comments on the BBQ Upon entry its a pretty cozy restaurant with a nice small-town feel to it! I ordered the 4 piece catfish platter, which came with 2 sides. For my sides I chose the fries and coleslaw. Catfish had a nice crispy cornmeal breading, exactly what I was craving when I came out for fried catfish! Sides: Fries were pretty good, although alittle paler than I’m used to. Coleslaw was room temperature and the flavor was not there. The meal also came with some elongated jalapeño hushpuppies, I didn’t order them so I guess it came with the meal? Anyways they ended up being mushy and gross. Bathrooms were nice and clean, which is always a plus. Overall Impression: Catfish was really good, nice portion size, clean bathrooms, friendly staff – Lose 1 star for Coleslaw and hushpuppies

My local favorite for the best variety in bar-b-q. It’s not fancy, it doesn’t have massive seating, but what it does have is great food. They serve large portions and the price is better the right. I like that it isn’t near the more main stream places; it helps keep it local and just the way it should be. If your looking for just the right seasoned meats and are in the area give this place a try, you won’t be disappointed with the food!

The food was excellent. I had the chicken strips with corn and frys. Everything tasted really good. The waitresses were very nice. What very much impressed me is when I asked for a to-go box the lady busing tables politely said«yes ma’am let me wash my hands».

«One of temples best kept secrets» I wish it was still a secret. I just stopped into chucks for a first visit. Apparently they had two really big orders just before me, because it took 35 minutes to get a plate of food which was already cooked. I ordered a brisket plate. After the 35 min wait it arrived. The brisket at first looked ok. Until I wiped off the BBQ sauce they poured all over it. What was below was very over cooked dry brisket. To top that off it was so salty it was almost unedible. The side of pinto beans tasted like they had just been poured out of a can. Really chucks? Pinto been are the cheapest and easiest side to make. The corn on the cob(a half piece) was Luke warm and tasteless as well. I had to ask for the bread that was supposed to be included. It came out so stale it crumbled when you tried to tear a piece off. Basic white bread! Come on really? So, maybe I just was unlucky, but if this is the best they have to offer. Do yourself a favor. DONOTGOTHERE!

I had the sliced brisket sandwich that was recommended by the waitress. It was delicious! Lots of flavor and no fat. The place has two doors at the entrance. If you’re looking to dine in with a large party make sure you go in the right door. The left side of the restaurant seems to be small and for to go orders.

They said this place started out as a BBQ-only joint, but I’m glad they added catfish to the menu. Delish! I enjoyed my meal — reminded me of the days when we did fish frys. The sides weren’t outstanding, but I still cleaned my plate. My friends ordered the all-you-can-eat since it was the Friday special. It is the same price as a 5-piece catfish platter, and comes with 2 sides. Definitely on my list to come back to next time I’m in Temple.

I ordered the brisket plate. It arrived and it was 4 slices of brisket with the consistency of overcooked banquet roast beef. My sides were olé slaw and potato salad, while these weren’t bad they were about 2 ounces of each. This would not have bothered me if the plate wasn’t 9.99. So overall i got overcooked brisket with a stingy amount of sides. The service was lacking as well. Our server brought our order, brought drinks and then was lost in an abyss. My dinner companion order a steak and enjoyed. So lesson learned is no brisket, try something else at Chuck’s

I’ve been coming here on Friday’s for their all-you-can-eat catfish for YEARS. Although the batter or seasoning have changed over the years, it’s still pretty darn good food. With all that said, I’ve only had their catfish, LOL. Their fries are pretty decent, the cole slaw can be rather dry but I do like their pinto beans. The have some of the biggest onion rings around. I’ve «heard» good things about their BBQ but have never experienced it first hand. The staff are always pleasant and very friendly. Beware because this place and get SUPER busy during lunch so either come early or have a late lunch. Either way, atleast come & try their catfish.

Chuck’s is a great little BBQ joint with good prices, good food, and good service. I’ve yet to have a bad meal here. It seems to be a local hangout, especially in the back room. They even have pork BBQ(sometimes) which stills my little North Carolina heart. Be advised: If you order the«whole chicken» you get a whole chicken.
