Alpenrose Restaurant

We stayed here, and while the room was nice, the breakfast was not all that great. The waffles I ordered were very small and thin, and the price was pretty outrageous for nothing but a single waffle…$ 9.00. It had an interesting flavor, but not worth the money.
The buffet that was included was «ok». The eggs also had a different flavor, which was nice, but the bacon and sausage were the same I would get from a Holiday Inn Express or some other small chain hotel.
One thing I will say is that croissants were really good! They were flakey and buttery… very tasty!
All in all, it’s a cute place to stay, but venture out if you want something to eat.

We tried the bratwurst fondue for two at the bistro last night (basically cheese fondue with bread, sliced sausages and apples) but we left feeling disappointed. The taste was acceptable as we did not expect anything authentic but the portion size was tiny (in France or Switzerland, we would get at least 3 times the portion)…I was surprised at the lack of quantity given a few other restaurants in Teton Village offer decent portions.
This was the first time I still felt unsatisfied (I was still a bit hungry). We didn’t stay on for desserts as we were quite scarred by the fondue. We have cancelled our Christmas Eve reservation at their main restaurant downstairs.
Contrary to other reviews, service was good and the staff were friendly. They just really need to sort out their kitchen.

Overpriced and extremely slow service. Echoing many other comments, better and more food at most of the other nearby restaurants, as well as faster service.

The absolute worst restaurant in Teton village. I wanted BBQ and looked around the menus and saw that this place had it, so I was excited to head out to eat. I ordered their bison short ribs with BBQ sauce and my boyfriend ordered the spaghetti bolognese. When the food arrived mine looked good, but once I took that bite I realized something was not right, the sauce was definitely not BBQ, my boyfriend’s pasta looked like it was mix with soup (the sauce was extremely watered down). Once I got the attention of the server I asked her about the BBQ sauce and she said «it’s for the ribs» once she realized I had the ribs she said that the BBQ sauce is mix with some sort of berry thing which NO ONE MENTIONED!!! It tasted horrible!!! The spaghetti was disgusting to say the least. The table next to us had the spaghetti too and the wife complained too!
Seriously the village is full of great restaurants and we tried almost all of them except for the Thai one. This one is a Big no no. Stay away from this place. Gross!
Oh, and you can here the cooks and servers joking or doing whatever in the back from the seats. A bit uncomfortable hearing «give me something to take out this cheese, she doesn’t like it» among other things.

Wow, previous reviews were more than correct — they just don’t seem to be using any salt. Food was just bland! Like, for real. The «spätzle» (from the Wienerschnitzel) were absolutely tasteless. The meat was good. Rather expensive; I got like 2 spoons (of each side).

Never have I been more disappointed in a restaurant than I was when I dined at the Alpenrose restaurant.
Shortly after we were seated, the hostess asked my son for his menu back. (prior to ordering.)
The reason for this was that she had just seated a large party, and did not have enough menus.
It struck us as odd, but we obliged the request, and went on with our experience.
My husband ordered a bottle of wine to go with our dinner, however the waiter returned and apologized that they were out, and recommended 2 other bottles that were comparable to what he had originally picked.
Soon after, our waiter returned again to inform us that they were out of their soup of the day. (The restaurant had just opened for dinner– not sure how they were already out, but ok.) We ordered salad instead, it was just ok. Nothing special about it.
Next our entrees arrived. The food was very bland, even my son noticed it.
I had the chicken piccata, it was served with 2 small chicken cutlets and the rest of my plate was filled with raw greens.
I brought this to the attention of the hostess, and asked for some mashed potatoes or something to have along with my meal.
She informed me that my raw greens were supposed to be served like that, but that she would get me some mashed potatoes as well.
Soon after that, we ordered dessert. Again, the waiter came out and said that they were out of the dessert that my husband ordered.
By this time he was fed up, and asked to speak to a manager.
The same hostess who had taken my son’s menu, and told me that my dinner was supposed to be served with a handful of raw broccoli, and other greens, came to the table.
Upon discussing our negative experience with my husband, she ran back to the kitchen and started talking to the chef in an area that we could see and hear from our seats in the dining room.
She and the chef defended everything that they said and did, and were basically bad talking us, where we could hear them!
I left and took my children to our room, while my husband paid the bill.
We ended up switching hotels as well. We will not go back there ever again, and I encourage other travelers to steer clear of that restaurant and hotel as well.

Charming old restaurant that could have seen better days. This is as Swiss as Leavenworth, WA is Bavarian.
They have a seemingly well stocked bar but was told no cocktail or bier menu is available. Decent wine list, decided to have the Unoaked California Cabernet Sauvignon which was fruity but had weak to no tannins.
Waitstaff was cold, inefficient, and kept forgetting to bring basic essentials to the table.
For a luxury setting there’s slightly warm bread in a cold cast-​iron bowl, served with small individually foil-​wrapped commercially available butter.
Ginger and carrot soup: good flavor with a nice bite, salt-​free. Perfect for sharing. Add salt to enhance taste.
Braised Bison Short Ribs with black currant sauce: braised yet firm, dry, sinewy, not fall-​off-​the-​bone; nice flavor but on the sweet side. Again, add salt to taste. This pales in comparison to the much cheaper Bison Meatloaf at the Old Faithful Lodge Cafeteria.
Lamb Riblettes with red currant sauce: flavorful dessicated riblettes that stick to the bone. Side of spinach with sliced kumquat was its saving grace. It’s not that easy to over cook lamb.
Simple Baked Salmon: bland sliver of salmon fillet with nice texture; prepared just right, not flaky or dry. Again, add salt to taste.
Mushroom Strudel with filo dough: on the bland side but very nice flavor, light crispy browned crust, however the rest of the dough was still raw. Manager explained it was their first time serving this particular dish and offered a discount.
We decided not to stay for dessert.

The attitude of the waitress is not friendly, and the food is expensive and not good, it makes me feel not worth it. The eating environment is good though. Let’s see how the breakfast is.

Kids menu grade: A-​, take the usual suspects and put some leiderhosen on them — Swiss spatzel (Mac&cheese), chicken snitzel (chicken fingers) and so on. What we liked is the generous portion of fresh fruit that came along with the entrees.
Kids review: That was really good. First time we have ever tried fondue. We liked everything, especially the chocolate fondue with the cool skewers and soft marshmallows. The snitzel was really good with the berry jam that came with mom’s dinner.
Parents review: we ordered the set menu for two (tour of the Alps) that came with cheese fondue served with crusty bread and green apples for dipping, one entrée each with choice of wiener snitzel or pork snitzel (we got one of each and shared) and chocolate fondue for dessert. They provided extra fondue forks so the kids could try everything. The wines are reasonably priced and we found a dry Riesling that went perfectly with our meal. Service was outstanding (they sent someone to the store to buy crayons to go with the kids menu) and the atmosphere cozy just like you’d imagine a Swiss chalet would be.

Bland food– kids even noticed how tasteless the food was. Table of 8 and no one liked their food. Very disappointed in what I thought was going to be a much better experience. Menu looked good, just need a new cook. Can’t beat the location though.

Walked away from the Snake river restaurant since it was 20 for breakfast and walked next store. Excellent Swiss breakfast menu all for 10 and under per person. The boys loves the Rosti eggs ham and Swiss over potatoes and I had the English breakfast. We will be here each day to try a different breakfast each day.

We had a nice dinner there. Food was solid, nothing amazing, but filling after day of skiing. Enjoyed fondue and some traditional dishes. Servers worked hard and were nice — a bit understaffed.

A good restaurant but not great:
+great location in Teton Village
+friendly service and good meal timing
+nice atmosphere and were seated right away
–the Caesar salad was made of romaine but the dressing seemed to be bottled and the croutons were somewhat blah
–the lamb and risotto was mixed. Lamb was cooked well and had a good taste but the risotto had a pool of liquid around it and was a bit soggy
–the walleye and vegetables was also mixed. The fish was well prepared and tasty but the julienne vegetables did not have much flavor and did not really add to the dish

We went there for dinner while staying at Teton village. I read the reviews here and have decided to give it a try. BUT we waited more than an hour for our food after we ordered (no kidding) and when the food came, it was very disappointing! We ordered the antelope, schnitzel, burger and the walleye, dishes were cold and flavorless. The burger was the best out of the 4. For price $$$ we expected much more

We ate breakfast there this morning & it was ok. The good part– it was cheap ! Bad part is they didn’t have what we ordered so brought waffles instead which were so so. The waitress was sweet but it was so odd that they didn’t have pancake so brought substitution. The breakfast sausage was gross– «Swedish» or not looked like sausage you would eat for dinner at breakfast. Just wasn’t good, although staff very nice & pretty place to sit outside.

Over a few trips to JH, we’ve eaten at this place a bunch of times and it’s pretty tough to review.
First, the breakfast buffet is very nice. Ample options, freshly made and tasty. You won’t walk away hungry. What many ppl don’t realize is that you can also order pancakes, waffles and I think french toast, eventhough they aren’t out on the line. These are pretty good as well. I’m sure we’ll go back for some breakfast next trip.
There is an upstairs bar/​restaurant with a pretty tasty lunch, but that’s a separate restaurant.
Now for the dinner… well we really wanted to love it, but in all fairness, there is just something off about this place. We have not tried the fondue, the Schnitzel is pretty good as were the other entrees. The big issue really comes down to service (which is just ok), portion size and price. Yes, the prices are similar to other restaurants in the village, but the food at the other places is much better and you get more of it. We’ll probably go there again if we have to (as in we cannot get into someplace else because the wait there is too long) but it’s not on my list of places I want to go back to.

I seriously question the palattes of other people when I read through the reviews on Unilocal.It’s such a crapshoot to determine who is smoking crack and who actually has a clue. I’ll do my best to give a useful overview on the Alpenrose.
I ate breakfast at the Alpenrose for 4 days during a recent ski trip. It is definitely a nice buffet but nothing to die for Brenda H. It’s a step above the continental you get at Hampton Inn/​Courtyard Marriott and a good way to start the day before hitting the slopes. I found the eggs runny and the hot food a little bland. However they would cook Swedish pancakes or French toast fresh which was fairly tasty. Also had fresh fruit, cereal, oatmeal, fresh breads, and either bacon or sausage. Again, good way to start the morning and if you stay at the Alpenhof breakfast is included. Nice hotel close to the slopes — not the Four Seasons but great for the price.
I also had dinner one night at the Alpenrose. They have a decent special for two where you get Fondue, a schnitzel dish, and desert for $ 69 which is a pretty good deal in Teton Village. I thought the cheese fondue was tasty and for an extra couple bucks you can add elk sausage which was pretty outstanding. If I had only had apples and sourdough I might have been a little disappointed. The weinerschnitzel was great and I’ve been all over Germany and this was comparable. Lean Cuisine Samantha — really? The desert/​chocolate fondue was a great way to end a great meal. Also they have some great wines that are WAY underpriced.
If you are big on ambiance — this place needs a make over. Definitely was a trend setter in the late 60s early 70s but needs to be updated. Food was solid so I give it a pass on décor.
Definitely worth checking out if you have a couple dinners in Teton.

After a day of skiing the «Taste of the Alps» accomplishes a perfect finish to the day. Fondue, Schnitzel and homemade Strudel by Regi. Lovely!

The Alpenrose breakfast buffet is to die for. Fresh juices, mixed fruit, french toast, waffles, eggs, meats, cheeses, pastries (raspberry and cheese mini danish omg) – everything you could ever ask for in a breakfast. Most breakfast buffets struggle with quality and freshness, but Alphenrose does it right by putting out small portions of freshly made food and replenishing it regularly. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Alpenhof and this little restaurant was the icing on the cake.
p. s. Props to the waiter who recognized my Mom, who comes here every summer. She appreciated the joyful banter.

Pretty good and definitely authentic Austrian food in a small and fairly weird restaurant at the base of Jackson Hole.
The cheese fondue was solid, the fontana and gruyère cheese tasted good with the white wine and a good amount of bread and apples were provided for dipping. The weinerschnitzel was very good, it came with some sort of gravy and a berry compote, both of which went well with the schnitzel. The apple strudel for dessert was also good, but nothing exceptional.
The service was very professional (almost too professional?), but very slow. The waitresses wore traditional Austrian dresses, which was a bit much since they were clearly from Jackson. Prices are high, as expected in Teton Village, but there are better restaurants at the same price nearby. This place seriously tries to be authentic with mixed results.
