Simply Self Storage

Simply Self Storage in Tewksbury (Main Street across from Papa Gino’s) is a terrible place to do business with. Here is what I experienced when I rented unit space with them: 1) the place was disgustingly dirty, 2) poor security. Homeless people and teenagers sleeping and peeing all over the place, 3) my storage unit broken into twice with expensive items stolen, 4) water leaking from ceiling, 5) broken elevators, 6) poor lighting and broken light bulbs/​fixtures, 6) bone chilling cold in the winter, 7) rude staff people in the office, and 8) mice and rats all over the place (rat skeleton in one of the abandoned units). Any other storage facility is better than Simply Self Storage in Tewksbury. Avoid that place like the plague!

I recently rented a unit here and all my belongings were stolen. No sign of break in. Funny thing is they asked me to leave them a key to the lock to repair the light. At the time I didn’t think much of it. Next time I went back the key was there in the unit. 3 months later I returned to start removing my belongs only to find 80% of them gone!
They were not helpful or concerned. The manager never even contacted me about this I had to track her down. I spoke to Beth and she said they were going to do their own investigation and she would call me back within 48hrs… still waiting! A letter to corporate office has gone unanswered as well! The police are now looking into this matter but I will never see my belongings again. The insurance they recommended I buy denied my claim as their definition of a burgulary is forced entry. The lock was locked when I went there.

Wow, I’m seriously surprised to read the bad reviews here. I’ve been using Simply Self Storage since Fall 2012 and planned to be out of the unit by now but an injury has temporarily prevented us from getting a shed at our home.
Simply Self Storage is certainly no-​frills but the price is good, nothing in our unit has ever been astray, and the woman who works there is friendly as can be and quite helpful.
While I certainly hope to have storage at home sooner rather than later, I do plan on continue using this facility until then.

A few months ago, we chose Simply Self Storage as a short term lower cost option for storing our home items while preparing for home construction. Yesterday, we cleared out all of our items after receiving a phone call with an ‘urgent message about the storage unit door’. Turns out this urgent message, to our home phone, not to any of the other numbers listed, was regarding a break-​in where some portion of the storage unit door was forced open. While it appears nothing of ours was taken, other people were not so lucky. And we also learned of another recent break-​in there on July 23.
The current set up of Simply SS has no security cameras and no general walk through to check on the units. Another person checking on her unit said that she heard loud banging there late Sunday evening, got scared and left. Why she didn’t call the police or the owner is unclear, but we didn’t get a call about a problem with our unit until close to 5 pm on Tuesday.
We were told that most Simply SS locations have someone who lives on site. We also learned that although access is supposed to be restricted after 10 pm, people often go in all hours of the night.
Be careful, be cautious, and weigh the risks of leaving your belongings in a facility where security is lax and the unit construction lends itself to easy break-​ins. Here, the doors are flimsy and the sliding door locks are not reinforced. We certainly learned our lesson.
