I called Hunt Country Yarns because I ran out of 2 yarn colors for a needlepoint I started over 3 decades ago. After going to 2 DC-area yarn stores that didn’t have either the style or colors I needed, I contacted Hunt Country Yarns. Based on a telephone conversation, I mailed the store a 1-inch segment of the 2 colors I needed. Within a week, I received two skeins of yarn that perfectly matched my missing colors. They called me to let me know they would mail the yarn to me and that I could send them a check after receiving it. I am so impressed by their responsiveness and grateful for their assistance. In this day and age, particularly, it was a delightful surprise!

I really liked this shop. The guy was nice, said hello and let me shop to my heart’s content. I’m still new to the yarn garb so I don’t know if they had a little yarn or a lot but I was happy and could have spent a good deal of money in there. Can’t wait to take another visit.

I stopped in to check out the goods, since I am in the process of taking up knitting. This store has an excellent selection in all price ranges for yarn, the entire store is packed from the floor to the rafters with various fibers, including local sourced and small batch varieties. There are also spinning supplies and spinning wheels for sale. Staff was friendly and helpful, offering some help with when their classes are coming up. The whole town seems like a great place to visit.

If you’re familiar with Project Runway, this town is home to villainess Wendy Pepper from Season One. Once you get there, you’ll understand her inspiration for her Fashion Week line. Rolling hills, arboreal bliss, quaint shops and this wacky aristocratic equestrian vibe sort of define Middleburg. Nestled two blocks off the main drag is Hunt Country Yarns. When you walk in, be prepared. Yarn is literally EXPLODING everywhere. Every inch of the store is consumed by sample projects, supplies and most of all… YARN. It’s packed to the brim with a huge assortment of yarn too, ranging from soft pastel baby fibers to incredibly expensive cashmere super deluxe fancy pants rich people yarn. People walk around the store chatting and knitting; on one occasion, a woman was carrying a baby in a Baby Bjorn and knitting a sweater while hanging out by the register. Uh, I can barely manage a scarf in complete quiet on my couch. There’s man whom I believe to be the proprietor of the shop, and he is generally near the front, spinning, teaching or chatting with the locals. I imagine this is what yarns shops look like in the little nooks and crannies of old world Scotland or something. I love it, and there’s a kick ass pizza shop down a few doors with the most hilarious guy spinning dough. Make a day out of Middleburg, but definitely stop at Hunt Country Yarns.
