Decided to try this place, first time. Good place for date night. The food itself: soup was good, fried rice was good, the hibachi chicken I ordered was barely warm in temperature. Veggies were alright. I would say overpriced for the quality.

This restaurant has a nice atmosphere and great service… The food, however, was average and mediocre, served to us at an undesirable temperature. Nice presentation. There are better hibachi grills around. I would also say the food is a bit overpriced

Stopped by and got takeout for lunch because I was in the area. Got hibachi scallops, extra for fried/hibachi rice. Ordering was easy and quick. Probably should have checked the order before I left, but they had it in two bags tied shut, stapled together, and I was in a rush. Got home and had a surprise of no rice, despite paying extra. At that point, I was not going to go back, so I called the restaurant just to let them know about the mistake. The girl answering the phone was nice and offered a free fried rice for next time, but I doubt there will be a next time. Oh – food was average.

I always love the sake bombs with apple sake and always feel like I am at home when I am there.

I walked in to place a take out order at 11:30. 2 veggie sushi rolls and 1 miso soup cost me $ 20 and took 20 minutes! Everything in the front is covered in a thick layer of dust, the plants, chairs, knick knacks, shelves, everything. So gross! The menus were all sticky and crusty and just plain nasty. All the girls at work told me this place was expensive but damn, I would have thought my rolls would have at least been awesome for the price but 3 of the 10 were barely even rolled and they were just ok. No soy sauce in the take out bag. I obviously won’t be eating here again. If you don’t care enough to keep the front area where people walk in clean, how clean can your kitchen possibly be?

So far our waiter is inattentive and slow. Service is harendous… I haven’t used that word in a while. Leo our waiter, just wasn’t waiting(corny but true) Dishes were not picked up when we were finished with appetizers. Leo Didn’t even take the Menus off of the table. Edamame was undercooked and off color. Avocado –crab-spicy tuna roll was lukewarm and disgusting. Please refer to pics I posted to see how brown and rotten the avocado looked. Leo our waiter even told us he wouldn’t eat it if it were served to him. I let the manager Tina know about this and I must say she is a class act and handled herself beautifully and took full responsibility for her chefs mistakes. Tina offered us some other things to try in place of our mistakes and I declined. The food presentation was less than desirable. The ambience was very nice and the clientele was very classy. The drinks must be really good!!! Won’t return, to many mistakes. Next

Wow, what a difference a year makes! Sad to say that something has gone wrong at this restaurant. I had previously written a deserved«5 Star» rating that now must be updated with a much lower rating. The restaurant is dirty and the food was bland. The service has become spotty and the hibachi cooks can’t even get the orders right. I only give it 2 stars because the sushi rolls were still good. Sad to see what has happened here.

It’s been some time since my last review, which was based on a disappointing lunch experience. In the intervening time; my wife and I have dined a few times at the sushi bar and gone in almost before closing time for take-out. All of the most recent experiences have been wonderful. Great service, which was the real problem on the last review, super fresh sushi and an all around good time. Glad we’re going back and, since there’s a new competitor very near by, interested to see who steps-up their game. My 2 cents. Greg T.

One of my favorite sushi places in The Woodlands. I recommend the Rocky Roll. Good salads — house salad, seaweed salad and cucumber salad. Great green tea ice cream. Good hibachi too.

The food was edible, not really Japanese though. More like Chinese’s attempt at Japanese. The food wasn’t cheap either. Will not go back.

We’ve been coming here for two years for its location, good food and family-welcoming attitude. For perspective, we’ve dined here 8 times in the last three months and spent approximately $ 600. So, when I say service and quality are declining, I’ve experienced it first hand… repeatedly. Prior to posting this, I reached out the management to address my issues and even requested a call from the owners. No returned call in four days. On 9/1, after waiting almost an hour for our families food, my New York roll was delivered. As I added wasabi, I saw movement on my roll. What appeared to be a black sesame seed was a bug. I quickly grabbed it with my chopsticks, moved away from my kids and took it to the sushi bar. The sushi chef casually acknowledged and offered to make me a new one. No apology, no dismay. I asked for the manager and when she appeared… she offered a small apology and offered to replace it. I don’t know about you, but bugs in raw food really bother me and the luckluster apology conveyed no real remorse, disgust or embarrassment — only our server empathized and had the cost of the roll removed. Here’s my several other reoccurring issues(hopefully you won’t experience them): 1. The kitchen is too slow. The non-sushi eaters in my family are waiting entirely too long to get yakiudon and other cooked food(ETA ~ 30 – 45 minutes). They must have new kitchen staff, but management isn’t overseeing the orders are sent in a timely manner 2. Management isn’t available, interested or trained appropriately. No one comes by the table to check, so when problems occur, they don’t know until the server or customer engages… They should be inspecting what they expect! Further, when something goes wrong, sushi customers expect over-the-top service recovery… 3. The servers have all turned over as many returned to school. The new staff doesn’t know the menu and hasn’t been trained to advocated for customers. Waitstaff should be the first people complaining when food takes too long — as they live off of tips which typically diminish when food is delayed. Further, there doesn’t appear to be any ongoing training for the staff to learn and taste new rolls. I’ve asked our last two servers and neither has tried any of the rolls. 4. The policy to charge for jalapenos and sauces(like spicy mayo) is shortsighted and cheep. I’d prefer they raise sushi prices than nickel and dime customers on accoutrements.

Awful… just moved here and chose this restaurant due to the reviews. First we were seated at the first booth to the right. I have no idea why, but the booth is EXTREMELY small. I asked if we could be seated at the hibachi grill and was told no because there were reservations for it. Needless to say through our entire dinner there were 6 chairs available at the grill. There were only 3 in our party. We all ordered hibachi steak. Out of the 3 dinners we maybe had 6 ounces of edible beef. The majority of the steak was full of gristle. The dinner was a waste of $ 110.

Overall, Sakekawa is a great restaurant with good food, atmosphere, and service. Unlike most hibachi restaurants, Sakekawa also has lower priced menu items, that are much more affordable, like the bento boxes, and also an actual sushi bar. The atmosphere is also very nice, and this is helped by the people working there. The waiters and hostesses wear a simple and neat uniform, and are young and presentable people. They which customers they can talk casually with, and which customers they should be courteous and polite to. They have a sushi bar and 2 hibachi grills, so a lot of meals can be prepared in front of you(not the bento boxes though, which are kind of new). The skill of the hibachi chef(or chefs) can vary(at the hibachi table), and they won’t always have the hibachi tables open. When they first opened in the Woodlands, they had an amazing chef with serious skill; he could prepare and set everything cooking in an instant, and then perform all manners of tricks and feats of dexterity. At some point, he left, and they had pretty bad hibachi for a while, but they’ve managed to fix that now. The chefs now are fine, though not nearly as amazing as the first chef. Note that seating at a hibachi table can make for a pretty long wait, and you’ll probably have to sit with quite a few other people if your party is small, but of course you can order hibachi menu items at a table. The current hibachi chefs cook great food, and you can of course, tell them to go easy on the soysauce or cook your steak extra rare etc, which is nice. The only actual problems I’ve had was occasionally, hibachi items at a normal table could be overcooked(sensitive foods like shrimp or scallops, normally), though never horribly. The hibachi isn’t the best I’ve ever had, but overall, it’s still really good food. The sushi is always great and you can get a variety of sauces, though it’s probably the most expensive stuff on the menu(and in very small servings).

The food was excellent. We ordered chicken and steak hibachi. The waiter was polite and brought out the sashimi before the meal as requested, which was nice. The chicken and steak was very tender and juicy. And the rice was perfectly cooked, steamed to perfection. The only thing that really got me was that no one(and I mean not one of the FOUR servers working nor the two hostess knew anything about the desserts). I asked what the Mississippi Mud Pie was and not a one knew. And they have(what I assume) is a pineapple split in half with sorbet or sherbet in the hollowed shell, but again, no one knew and it wasn’t on the menu. But hey you can add a splash of port to the dessert so at least they got that going for them. Only gave it three stars because the dessert thing really got me bothered and the Udon soup was bland and the salad was really watery and gross. I probably won’t return but I did not by any means hate the food or service, there are just better places for hibachi.

Went here over Memorial weekend. Place was empty, but that meant we didn’t have an issue getting seats at the hibachi table. The basketball games were on over the sushi bar, which was nice bc it’s playoffs. Out waiter was friendly and the food was good. Our hibachi chef Tommy was awesome. He had fun entertaining our group and went above and beyond to interact with us. He actually showed a variation to the volcano onion that I hadn’t seen before. His fried rice was awesome, and so was the shrimp. After he finished cooking for us, he came out and made us balloon figures that he said he had learned from YouTube and various books. He made me an elaborate monkey on a motorcycle and my friend got an octopus. He did an incredible job, and I would pick this location to go to simply bc of him. Thanks!

So my roommate was super sick. Like yuck dude. So seeing how her roommate is ME, I went scowering for her favorite munchie, Udon soup, only to discover that some places actually pan fry Udon soup. Who does that? Anywho, finally I called upon the powers of the Unilocal and I found Sakekawa. They were positive that their soup was actually soup and furthermore they had the vegetarian udon. I know… she’s one of those… don’t hate. When I arrived, the place was really nice, dimly lit and the host was quick to kindly take my order. As a waited I was brought a glass of water. When I got home my order was exact and when she tasted the Udon soup her eyes lit up. The sickly one was happy to be able to nibble on the Udon and enjoy the vege broth. It was a success. I will totally return. Although, not when I’m sick.

Marco the owner is awesome. He remembers you and knows what you like and the service expected is high. I went with my family and we ordered great rolls. Seriously, all of them are great, you really can’t go wrong. But when I tried to order sake and it didn’t go well, Marco came right and fixed everything. I expect my family will come here again and again.

The Aji fish is the most delicious fish in my meal. I also tried their HURUMAKI. It is a nice appetizer. I like it cause it is a lightly fried and the sauce which is called sweet and chili sauce is perfect
