I had Robert come out to my house to work on a variety of issues. He was very knowledgeable, professional, and did good work. My work ranged from digging post holes and hanging a fallen fence panel, to adding a new outlet in my garage, to replacing some water-damaged subflooring in my living room. I recommend them and especially Robert.

I’ve used this business around 20 times and will continue to do so. The range of services they can do is impressive. The service from phone and in home personnel is great. The owner is loyal to existing clients and donated to a charity i volunteer for despite the fact that we are only business connected, not personally. Their staff are timely and professional.

I’m not sure I would hire this organization again. They provided an estimate over the phone without looking at the project. My final bill was almost twice the amount of the estimate, which was a surprise. It was also a surprise to experience one of their contractors who seemed to be in over his head. Their contractor was professional in dealing with us, as was their office person, but the results weren’t what we expected.

I had Michael from Handyman Matters in Portland come to replace a shower valve and install the cartridge for a shower remodel that was in progress. I clearly stated my intention for him to complete the work so that I could attach the trim kit myself when the tile was completed. Today I opened the package and to my surprise found the valve cartridge. He didn’t install the cartridge so I will have to call them back out for another job(and associated fee of course!) in order to have a working shower. I don’t know if this was an oversight, a mistake, or intentional to get another service call out of me, all I know if that I’m a customer with an unfinished job and a big bill on the way for more work. This is a terrible way to treat a customer. They should complete the work they are engaged for at the price agreed, and if something can’t be completed inform the homeowner, not leave it as an unpleasant surprise. Potential customers should also note that it is difficult to get these people on the phone. They are busy, which is understandable, but they need to have more people answering their phones so that people with a problem don’t have to play phone tag. Updated from 1 to 3 stars: They were able to give me advice on completing the work myself. They also offered to return to complete the work if I was not able to.

Handyman Matters of west Portland was fantastic. Many times when you have work done, you are told a timeline, and you just don’t really know if the contractors will show up on time, if they actually will get the work done when they say, and how good the final quality will be. With Handyman Matters, they deliver on all promises and then some. The attention to detail, the customer service, the followup and integrity are what sets them apart. I would highly, highly recommend them and in fact have been already.
