I have never eaten there. The website indicates the restraunt is still open however there is never anyone to answer the phone. I guess the renovations never got finished and no more Kobe? If I am wrong please tell me. I can’t believe we’ve lost 2 Kobes this year. So sad

Went back a second time. Service is still great, but it is slower paced that most restaurants. But that is ok, its not supposed to be fast food. Food was much better. I think the last time we went they must have been having an off night. Again, the atmosphere is nice. Probably one of the more modern and appealing in the Toledo area. This time they had a single Hibachi chef in the dining area. He was by himself near the dock side of the restaurant. He didnt do any tricks or anything, But the food being cooked out there made the whole place smell good. I guess their plans in the future are to have multiple hibachi chefs, for each table. Like Nagoya. Overall, this place is going on one of my list of favorites.

Don’t know why this placed has been hit so hard on the reviews. Service was very good. We had lettuce cups, tuna sashimi, rainbow roll, kamikaze roll and lobster roll. Food was all very good. My one complaint was that I thought the rolls were overpriced for the size. We spent quite a few dollars and left hungary.

I REALLY wanted this place to be good. I was excited for a new Japanese restaurant at The Docks, but this place was just awful. The only positive thing that I experienced at Kobe Bay was their customer service; they seemed genuinely concerned with why I didn’t like my meal. — When we entered, there was no hostess or any other employee at the entrance, so my husband and I stood around for about ten minutes before a hostess came to the front. — My husband ordered two rolls, and I got the chicken hibachi meal. He liked his rolls(I thought they lacked flavor, and were not even close to being on par with Domo or Kengo). My meal came out cold, and it tasted just plain awful. It did not have any flavor except for an overwhelmingly amount of garlic. — We also ordered egg rolls which we both could not eat because it tasted so horribly. Will not be returning there ever.

Came here for lunch. The prices were a little higher than what you will find at other Japanese restaurants in the area, but I think the quality of food and the atmosphere made it worth it.

Place sucks, server took 5 min before coming to get our drink order, then had to go check to see if they had the bottle of wine.(Which took 10 min) The wine came out warm. Don’t waste your time or money. Go to DOMO

If you feel like sushi don’t go there unless you enjoy smelly old fish and a reason to call in sick the next day. You are likely to need a day off to recover from this superb wining and dining. One more thing that will make your dinner very memorable is the service, you will be over attended by super annoying waiters.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I am unsure where to start. Our dining experience took over 2 hours total. They were out of just about everything… This includes Great Lakes beer, a few wines, spring rolls, summer rolls, egg rolls and a few other things we tried to order. It took 45 mins to get our drinks(2BOTTLED beers and 2 cocktails. Their mule was not served in a mug and if it hadn’t have been for the 45 min wait would have been sent back immediately. Miso soup and apps came and were finished before the drinks. The waitress was very quick to blame it on the bar even though she could have at very least grabbed the bottles. When our sushi rolls arrived 2 were missing and the waitress said she was going to be right back and find it. One eventually made its way to the table(after having to ask for our slips back and figure out on our own what roll was what). 15 – 20 mins later our waitress comes back and asks«did you still want me to get that other one?»… WHAT?! The whole time we thought it was on its way but we were quickly dismissed and it was assumed it was no longer wanted or needed. There was no apology until we started to question and get a bit of an attitude. After all of this no manager ever came out, no comp was made… Nothing. On the way out we brought it to the manager and she was«unaware this was happening» not sure how this is possible… It was not a busy place and it was very noticeable that we were displeased, not to mention sitting there for hours. She offered a 20% off groupon to come back. Laughable and distasteful. I will give them this: the miso soup was good, hearty with tofu and seaweed and broth was flavorful. Sushi was okay… Not on kengo or Domo level and definitely not worth going back for given our awful overall experience. Also a lot of the raw rolls are still flash fried which we found odd. My suggestion is to NOT go here. Also– a tip to management… You should probably not list the whole name of the server on the receipt. First and last name leaves no privacy to your staff members.

I really hate doing this but it won’t improve unless we speak up. First, DON’T eat the soup, it smells terrible and tastes even worse. Cali rolls were sent back because they weren’t edible(taste like a tablespoon of salt was in each roll) I love extra salt but this was not consumable. Hibachi isn’t cooked in front of you. They didn’t ask how we wanted our steak cooked. The steak, shrimp and chicken were ok but you have to eat them by themselves meaning DON’T eat the rice, veggies or sauces. The rice has something in it that punches you in the face. I’ve never tasted fried rice like that. The veggies have the funny tasting sauce(teriyaki gone wrong). The teriyaki tasted like it had alcohol in it. We eat hibachi and sushi in every state we visit. It’s all a little different, but not like KobeBay. This place either doesn’t know what it’s doing or they are trying way too hard to be different/creative/unique. It isn’t working.

In terms of restaurant experiences, Kobe Bay ranks in the worst 5 restaurants in all of Toledo. We ordered not 1, but 2 bottles is wine, and apparently they ran out of all the wine we enjoy. They offered us a 3rd bottle and it was AWFUL. We ordered an appetizer and it so hadn’t arrived by the time our entrees arrived. By the way, it wasn’t even a hot dish. How does a steak arrive to the table before RAW fish? The sushi we ordered took almost 90 minutes to get to our table. My fiancé ordered a steak with roasted red skin potatoes and grilled asparagus. The potatoes turned out to be fried sliced russet potatoes. The«chefs» didn’t even break off the woody ends of the asparagus. We had after dinner plans and our awful experience at this restaurant caused us to miss our favorite band. We never get to go on dates anymore, and when your date night is ruined by the restaurant, it makes you want everyone to know how shitty that place is. We will NEVER return.

A new Japanese restaurant in Toledo? My wife was really psyched to try it, and I was reasonably okay with trying it. For the record, although I said Japanese, Kobe Bay is actually Asian Fusion. LOCATION: It’s at The Docks. What’s not to like about that? Obviously, you’ll get to take in one of the most iconic views of the Toledo sky line, AND, parking is a breeze. Unfortunately, Kobe Bay is located at the North East end. Now in theory, this fact probably means nothing. Empirically, however, it would seem that places located on either end of The Docks, especially the North East end, seem to go out of business faster than hot dogs disappear from Joey Chestnut’s maw. FOOD: Not bad. Not bad at all. I ordered the Korean marinated filet, and it was grilled perfectly(medium well). It was delicious, BUT, at about 6 ounces, it was definitely a bantamweight. I smashed it faster than Conor McGregor smashed Jose Aldo. Obviously, I was still hungry. Fortunately it came with glazed carrots and mashed cauliflower; both were excellent. My wife had chirashi, and some spicy roll. In general, she liked the flavors, but felt that the various dead sea creatures«could have been fresher.» The kids, who probably don’t know any better, loved their teppanyaki chicken and steak. I tried some of both. Not bad. For my taste, the various dipping sauces could have been a little bolder. Oh yeah, other desserts were available, but we had mochi. It was served in martini glasses, along with just enough whipped cream, and just enough chocolate and/or strawberry syrup. The four flavors were strawberry, mango, green tea, and red bean. Great stuff. DRINKS: I’m not be rice wine connoisseur, or any kind of wine connoisseur for that matter. But I know what I like, and I was plenty satisfied with the sake selection. The beer selection was average to above-average. My Old Lady(I’ve been watchin’ Sons of Anarchy re-reruns) had some fu-fu mixed drink, which she really seemed to enjoyed. ATMOSPHERE: Excellent. Kobe Bay has a wide open floor plan, and is clean, modern, and cool. Especially cool is the mezzanine level, with a private bar and a great view, that can be rented out for private parties. A «VIP room» is also available for more intimate engagements. SERVICE: I read some of the negative reviews, and I must say that our experience was very different. We had no issues whatsoever. Mike was an efficient, personable, and knowledgeable waiter. We received our food accurately, and the meal was well paced. The kitchen and the sushi chef, Jason, were also fast and friendly. With regard to staffing and the food, there may(or may not) be a few bugs to work out, but in general, I’d say that Kobe bay is off to a promising start! Four Stars after a single visit!

The sushi is fantastic! Be sure to sit at the sushi bar and chat with Jason, he is entertaining, knowledgeable and prepares a mean roll. We had both traditional and more American style rolls. The fish was perfectly prepared, fresh and tasty. The combinations of flavors made each bite more delicious than last. I can’t forget to mention the edamame, which was perfectly salted and seemed to be prepared with more of a olive oil/healthy take — delightful. As we finished our rolls and beer/wine(which btw they have a great selection of both) Jason offered us a chefs choice«last bite»…melt in your mouth salmon belly, it was so good all you could do was sit back and enjoy. This new place is totally worth it! Atmosphere is spot on as well as the wait staff.

I went there with my girlfriend to try out the new place, since we are huge fans of Kengo and needed to branch out. We were greeted when we arrived and shown to our table promptly. From there on everything kind of went downhill. Service was very slow for water, wine, appetizers and food. However, our server was pleasant and I think she was a trying her best with what was available to her. The entire experience took about 2 hours from being seated to paying the check. The food was mediocre at best and inadequate when considering the price. If you’re looking for a nice dinner look elsewhere. There are plenty of established restaurants in Toledo that will provide a pleasant dining experience. Not sure what these 5 star ratings are doing on here. They either got the wrong restaurant or are paid advertisements… I apologize for the harsh review, but it really was a poor experience.

My wife and I went there for the NYE2016 bash that they held last night. The positives: 1. Food was decent. 2. Dance was was adequate. 3. Music was good. The negatives: 1. Bartender(one in particular) was very rude, snotty, and unprofessional. 2. The wait to get the food was ridiculous do to waiting for plates, the food itself, or silverware. 3. The layout was poorly planned. 4. Sold too many tickets for the space available. 5. Waited 45 minutes to get a bottle of wine. 6. Never serve beer or certain drinks in plastic cups. 7. Do to the waitstaff(bartender), we won’t go back. 8. Not enough seating. 9. Waitstaff was overwhelmed and unprepared due to lack of training or prep time from management. 10. The dress of some employees that reveal too much. To the management, if you want to resemble a good place to eat, with a great ambiance, and well managed wait staff, please please please take care of people that want to work in the establishment that may care for the patrons and purge the employees with poor manners. The people that you employ make everything and as of last night, the place did not do any thing to bring our business back.

Top notch Japanese with a beautiful view! Have been here multiple times and other than a few small hiccups which should be expected for a restaurant pre-grand opening, everything has been fantastic. Heard they stole a sushi chef from one of the well known places in NW Ohio, so all the sushi has been awesome; tried a special roll called something like nagagami which was heavenly. The miso soup has something about it which makes it stand out from any other miso soup. Even the green tea had a strong earthy flavor(like matcha almost) that made it memorable. I tried a bone-in ribeye on another trip which was perfectly cooked and as good as what I would get at a steakhouse, plus reasonably priced. The drink selection is fantastic and the Buckeye Martini should be on your life list :) In regards to hosting parties and events here, they have an awesome upstairs bar area for larger groups. We had a few holiday parties and Jason(executive chef) was super easy to work with to set up the food details and Sarah(pretty much who runs the show here… like b-o-s-s) took care of our group like royalty.

The food was pretty good. However, they were out of several drinks/food items we ordered, we waited 45 minutes for 2 sushi rolls, our waiter disappeared for long periods of time, and the dinner itself took 2 hours(most of that spent waiting). I would be interested in going back once all of the kinks have been worked out.

Big, bad & not quality. Place is huge, awful service tonight & sushi ingredients are very average. Rolls with lots of bad sauces. And it’s a night club on the weekends, pass. They offer 5 different food styles. American, Chinese, Japanese, Sushi & Asian Fusion, why so many? Who knows what they do well if anything. Hope it gets better!

It’s gorgeous inside and our server was friendly and accommodating of our requests. The sushi was underwhelming and overpriced but the bento box my friend got looked good. The server created sangria for us even though it wasn’t on the menu :). I would return for drinks but not necessarily the food.

This is a review for the new night club«7» that they opened in a sushi restaurant… AWFUL!!! The layout is atrocious, the DJ is just as bad and the waitstaff is even worse! They serve top shelf whiskey and scotch in plastic Dixie cups charge full price as an «up scale» club and then argue with you over it! These owners have no clue!!! My recommendation is to go to Chucks on Monroe st. Where you get a far better atmosphere and when you order a top shelf drink you actually get it in the appropriate glass and served to you in a timely manner and with a smile!
