I was a member of LA fitness for a long time, back when it was still called Urban Active. I got tired or haggling with them every year for the best price(it is like dealing with a car salesman when buying a new car). I decided to give these guys a call since they are 24⁄7. Most gyms you call won’t even give you a price and want you to come in and check out the club and you listen to a sale speech and you have to argue over price. They quoted me a very reasonable fee of $ 20 a month for the black card which includes tanning and massage chair and bed use(I love the massage chairs) and use of any clubs with a year commitment. I believe there was a sign up fee but it was very minimal. LA Fitness for a membership that you can use at one club is a lot more than that and they aren’t 24⁄7. This fee also allows you to bring a guest EVERY visit so if you work out with the same person at the same time you only need one membership(the guest doesn’t have use of things like the massage chairs and tanning though). They also have a lower fee if you don’t want things like the tanning and massage chair and only want to use the one location. There is free wifi if you want to stream music for your workout without using your cell phone data(that’s another thing LA eliminated was free wifi) and they don’t have expensive personal trainers bugging you to sign up. They do have one personal trainer but he just designs a work out plan for you and it’s free. Being open 24⁄7 is great!!! And never an issue finding a parking spot. It’s also nice being in a strip mall with Kroger at the other end for picking up groceries and prescriptions after a work out. The negatives: 1. No scales, they are considered to be judgment free but it would be nice to have a scale and BMI measurement too to make sure you are getting the right results from your work out. 2. As another reviewer stated they charge you a day pass fee to try them out. But if you sign up they will credit it back and I’d rather pay a minimal one day pass fee than have to deal with a pushy salesperson and haggle over a membership fee. 3. No pool or walking track or sauna. Those are things I miss about LA but worth giving up for the lower fee and 24⁄7 gym. 4. No spinning classes.

The facility is always clean and rarely packed. Some staff members could be a bit friendlier, but the membership is cheap and I enjoy coming here. There are a few gym douches who love to show off a bit but it is very comfortable for those of us who just want a clean and affordable place to work out. I like that I can bring a guest for free and work out at other locations as a guest with the black card. Recently, they improved the check in process so it is quicker to get in the door. I don’t really do the whole pizza Monday or Bagel Tuesday or tootsie rolls at the door but those who do seem to like it.

I rarely give such 1 star ratings… When I do the place really must be an under achiever. I will try and not be too lengthy in my review. After talking to my brother who is a member and also calling the Planet Fitness location, I was assure my partner and I could go in for a «trial workout» and try out the facilities. We are currently members of a private gym which cost us about $ 120 a month in membership dues but is an extremely nice, high end and no rift raft facility. Today we decided to go try out the local PF and see if we would like to change and save money at the same time. We showed up to the Glendale Avenue location around 530pm and checked in at the front desk. I explained to the clerk that we were there to do a trial workout and see the facilities. She wasn’t friendly and said to do a workout even as a «trial» we must purchase a day pass… Really purchase a day pass to try out the gym for 30 minutes or an hour? I have never heard of this… Urban Active, LA Fitness, Wildwood ANY gym I have been affiliated with have always let me do a trial workout prior to joining. The clerk was abrupt, rude and not willing to compromise or let us talk to someone who could make a different decision. I definitely wouldn’t recommend going to PF especially after my first impression… And just to throw gas on the fire in their main lobby they were advertising for«bagel mornings»…really bagel mornings at a gym where you are going to workout and get more fit and healthy in your daily life… Get real… Get real about customer service and giving it 100 percent of the time!!! IF you don’t allow people to try you out without purchasing a day pass how do you expect to gain more market share locally? At this point I would prefer to stay where I am at and paying a higher membership due if it means I get clean facility, good customer service and great machinery!!!
