9 of us celebrated my daughter-in-laws birthday on Sunday @ the Mango Tree. Jennifer was the most wonderful waitress you could ever ask for. She answered every question regarding the food. She was polite, quite attentive, & extremely friendly. All our food was brought out quickly, Hot & correctly. We enjoyed appetizers of onion rings, alligator, twice baked potatoes, calamari. ALL were delicious. the dinners ordered were Shrimp, Scallops, Prime Rib, Alfredo, Frog Legs & a hamburg. ALL were delicious. This is a nice, quite place. Excellent service & great food! ENJOY!

Great food, great price! The prime rib is out of this world. The fried alligator is amazing and the the twice baked potatoes are melt in your mouth. This is definitely Toledo’s hidden gems.

Terry Zero Stars!!! I don’t know who has been eating here but this place is not a steakhouse. It is by far the worst steak I ever had. Both my wife and I ordered the $ 23.95 filet medium rare.(I should have been warned when I tried to order the Chefs Choice cut steak«market priced» from the menu and was advised they don’t do that anymore). Both of our filets were overdone. Medium at best and were so dry it was obvious they had been been frozen and probably microwaved to thaw. Not worth sending back then waiting to get the same dry steak and miss eating with our friends. We ate two bites. Terrible !!! The twice baked potatoes were also dry and tasteless The French onion soup was ok but it was too cool which was weird because the cheese on top had been melted The house salad was the worst case of white lettuce I ever saw too. I must say the fried alligator was crispy and tasty. Finally the waitress was from the grizzly family. Her name must have been Griselda. Spelled with a grizzz Slow Didn’t even offer to make an adjustment after we showed her the steaks. And not a drop of natural juice on the plate. Incredible ! Unfortunately I found it necessary to adjust my standard generous tip. Do not go there for steak. Ugh! Oh to be fair the wine was not bad.

We visited Mango’s with a little apprehension — the exterior looks pretty rough, and it’s not on the best side of town. But, it was Valentine’s Day and everything else was booked up — so we figured, what the hell? The inside of the Mango is similar to the outside — it’s extremely dated, and it looks like it was furnished with the chairs, tables and bed sheets from the closed-down Ramada up the road. Other than that, it’s quiet and clean. Now, onto the food — which was Sooo Delicious! I had the turtle soup, something I’ve never tried before. All I can say is it tasted superb! Served with a shot of reduced sherry on the side, I was told by the waitress to pour it on top and just mix it in — which is exactly what I did. Oh my, what flavor! We both ordered steaks for our mains — mine a ribeye and her’s a NY strip. They arrived at our table piping hot, char-grilled to perfection and oh so tender! Delicious! Regardless of the aesthetic appeal of the Mango Tree(it has none), they do an outstanding job with their food. I recommend for very casual dining anytime!

I was here on a Tuesday night at 8pm. The Mango Tree is open until 10pm and the bar next door(in the same building is open later). There were two cars in the parking lot. Bad sign, maybe, but we had a gift certificate for $ 50(won in a contest) and we were going to make the best of it, despite reading the Unilocal reviews. The waitress greeted us right away and was terribly cordial. She was incredibly good to us. I asked her for her recommendations and she made direct eye contact with me while she told me her favorites. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 dinners for 3 people. I don’t eat meat, but the 2 people with me do. Our waters were always full; the waitress came back to us 5 or 6 times during our short 45 minutes visit. Our appetizers came out about 5 minutes after we ordered them. After that the salads came out within 5 additional minutes and within a half hour from arrival we were eating the dinners. the atmosphere was casual/sophisticated. Mint green walls, tungsten lighting and a lowered ceiling. There were both wooden booths and tables with table clothes. They were playing light symphonic melodies. The décor was tasteful, if not quaint. Now for the sad part. There are no vegetarian dinner options. I ate the potato skins(sans bacon) which were smothered in muenster cheese. Under the cheese were 2 sauteed mushrooms and 22“X2mmX3mm uncooked onion strips on each of the 6 flat potato skins. The skins seemed to be previously frozen or at least not today fresh. One of the skins had a deep pocket of mold under the cheese. YUM, BONUS! I wish the waitress would have mentioned that the mushrooms had been sauteed in beef broth or meat, when I ordered and told her that I didn’t eat meat. I only mentioned it because there is a $ 3 charge for sharing anything of anyone’s plate. This fact is stated on the menu on the first page. The second appetizer was a plate of deep fried onion rings which came with cold tomato marinara sauce. they were obviously frozen and deep fried and not home made. They were similar to bar munchies. My friends had 2 meat dinners. One was a 8oz strip steak medium rare with a baked potato(still in the foil) and a side salad. the blue cheese dressing cost extra, as noted by the waitress. the iceberg lettuce was crisp but rusty with one sad tomato slice. The blue Cheese dressing didn’t have any flavor, not even a little tang. The steak was so-so. According to the beef eater, he’s had similar steaks at ponderosa. The steak was at least cooked properly, very red on the interior, just what he ordered. The other friend had a chicken breast, no skin, smothered in muenster cheese, 2 steamed shrimp and about a dozen sauteed mushrooms. She said it needed something, but couldn’t say what. She added tons of salt to it, which is odd for her. The chicken was pan seered, but with no seasoning. Her dinner also came with a baked potato still in foil and a similar salad with the house dressing; raspberry vinegarette, which was seriously a candy apple red and gooey. The sour cream for the potato skins came in a plastic cup, like the kind salad dressing comes in and was molded into a 1″ diameter sphere. Nice touch, if it had been plunked onto the plate and not left in the souffel cup. We were the only people in the entire dining area, other than the employees. We felt really bad about using a gift certificate, so we ordered another 8oz steak to go, before getting our food. We did leave the waitress a well deserved 30% tip on the entire amount with the gc amount included. She was amazing, even though the food wasn’t worth the price.

Mango Tree… catchy name, weird décor. Choosing what to order was rather difficult since a couple of the dishes sounded quite appealing. For appetizers, I opted for the most daring item on the menu — deep fried alligator. Served with creamy cajun sauce and light on the breading, I actually enjoyed it, despite the measly portion. A whooping 5 pieces. I settled for the Chicken Mango for my entrée, which had a heart next to it on the menu. I had mistakenly assumed it meant a favorite of some sort at MT, and boy, was I wrong. Apparently it meant a ‘heart healthy’ option and I soon learned why. The chicken, while topped with shrimp, mushrooms, and muenster cheese, tasted like cardboard — utterly deprived of salt, spices, and flavor. Poor, poor choice of wording. If you ask me, hypertension friendly is a more apt phrase. The accompanying broccoli did not look one bit appetizing. My mom’s sirloin steak, while chopped, was decent; globs of oil sat on top of the accompanying(watery) mushroom sauce for some odd reason. My dad’s fried catfish was mighty tasty and had the similar breading as the alligator meat. So there you have it. The only noteworthy items at MT are the deep fried ones. Le sigh. Service was rather impersonal, but what irked me the most was the wait time for the dishes. Ten minutes for the appetizer was fairly decent, but nearly an hour for the entrees when there was only one other table?
