Theo’s Mediterranean Cafe

I had the best spinach pie at this place when it was open. (theyre set to re-​open soon). The service was prompt. Its a small place, so not great for groups dining in. But that food. Get take out if you have a large group. You wont be disappointed with the flavor and price.

Wonderful flavors, top quality & made from scratch, fresh and bright with all of the notes you’re looking for in a solid greek lunch, served up by an absolutely friendly staff in a most positive atmosphere and I am ashamed to say it’s taken me way to long to stop by. Welcome back to Toledo Theo’s! I missed you.

Compared to places in, say, Astoria, the menu is small, but what they do here at Theo’s, they do very well. For example, Theo’s grape leaves are second to none. These are by far the best in Toledo, and possibly the best I’ve had anywhere.
I wish they had weekend hours.

One of the best gyro’s I have eaten! We ordered gyro’s and a hummus platter to go and both were awesome. The hummus platter came with cucumbers, green pepper, radishes, carrots, pita bread and pita chips! Highly recommended for anyone looking for a quick bite downtown or someone who works downtown.

So good! Friendly service, AMAZING food. Do yourself a favor and venture north of Cherry St. to pay this cute little diner a visit. Grape leaves here remind me of my grandmother’s!

Found Theo’s when it had only one review by a guy who knows the owners. Everything he says is true!
I had delicious avgolemono soup and big salad with a side of chicken souvlaki.
Couldn’t be happier finding this gem in walking distance from the Best Western Grand Plaza Hotel.

DISCLAIMER: I admit that I’m probably a little biased. I’m friends with the owners, and I worked at the original Theo’s back in its heyday. That being said…
FOOD: Remember the food at Theo’s Taverna? If you liked it, then you should like the food at TMC. They use the exact same recipes, and even employ some of the same cooks.
So far, I’ve tried the spinach pie, the pastitsio, the baklava, the avegolemono soup, a chili dog and of course, the grape leaves. Suffice it to say that everything has been either very good (pastitsio), or outstanding (grape leaves, tiropita, avegolemono).
The grape leaves are the best in the city. They are small, (they look kind of like «grape leaf balls,») but you get quite a few. The flavor and texture are just plain unreal. Moist beyond belief.
Same for the avegolemono soup… best in town. It’s thick and creamy and has just the right amount of lemon flavor. This is the kind of chicken/​lemon/​rice soup that makes a perfect «sauce» to drizzle over grape leaves. (Although, I’m not sure if I’d do that here; Theo’s grape leaves don’t need the likes of me monkeying with their flavor).
Speaking of flavor, the spinach pie is perfectly seasoned and very moist; you’ll do better if you eat it with a fork. Ample serving size.
OK, I’m gonna say «flavor» one more time…
My favorite Greek dish is pastitsio, and my main complaint about some Greek restaurants’ pastitsio is that it lacks FLAVOR. Not so at Theo’s. The pastitsio was very very good. (Nice big serving size, too).
In general, I don’t eat a lot of baklava because I’ve just never liked it that much. (Also, I don’t like octopus, and I’m not THAT crazy about lamb, but I swear, I really am of Greek decent). However, Theo’s baklava definitely tasted way better than most.
I am going to resist the temptation to compare Theo’s and Manos, because there’s no need to. I like both places, AND they’re entirely different types of restaurants. Manos retains its place as a «sit down restaurant» with a nice atmosphere, and I’m still going to keep eating there. Theo’s, on the other hand, is intended to be more of a take out and/​or delivery joint, and it fits that bill very nicely.
With the exception of Mexican, Middle Eastern and Chinese, Toledo suffers, in my opinion, from a paucity of ethnic restaurants. Theo’s will help to rectify that situation. Hopefully, the location won’t hurt business.
I’m definitely eating here often.
