Friendly, welcoming, variety, clean, good ambience, casual attitude, helpful. Love it. And so lovingly, vegan-conscious! They even asked if I am, made suggestions, and warned against some items, in case I did not know to avoid them…

One of the worst sushi places I have ever been to. Service wasn’t good either. I will not be coming back.

This place is disgusting, sushi did not taste fresh at all. The sushi chef high fived this drunk girl while making sushi. He then proceeded to bring her behind the bar and take pictures with her and attempt to teach her how to make sushi. Her friends walk in and she runs straight to the back of the kitchen. This place is NOT worth it. Please go else where. I will NOT be returning

The reviews make this spot questionable but I think Kai is underrated. Our server on a Monday lunch was really nice. Service was good. Food wasn’t bad.

My expectations were exceeded. I have never met a server with such an amazing bright attitude. Came here on 5÷13÷16 around 7:30pm with my two sisters and my fiancé. Our server was LESTER. This guy gave us the best service! He had the brightest attitude ever! The food was good, don’t get me wrong. But I’m actually here to write the review about Lester. My family and I were so happy with his service, we all liked him very much! People like him are the reason why these types of businesses succeed. We will definitely be coming back here! Thanks Lester, we need more people like you in the world!!! :)

Came here on a Saturday night and there was no wait which seemed odd. The waitress did not write down our order, so when my friend’s food came out, I just figured mine was taking longer. Turns out she didn’t even put the order in and questioned me like I didn’t order it to begin with. The food was good so they get 3 stars despite the service.

My family loved this place a few years ago. Since it’s a bit pricier we don’t go very often. Today the fish was still fresh, but the portions were tiny, cut like they were hastily ripped apart and were all different sizes and shapes. The regular rolls were just plain rice with tuna or cucumber nothing else. No seasonings the all. Mostly everything looked smushed between someone’s fingers to make they look taller because they were so damn small. As if we wouldn’t notice they were less than an inch wide and 1.5 inches tall for the special rolls. The fried food was just really very bad. My 3 year old threw up twice from their dumplings and tempura within a hour. After spending 65 dollars I feel terribly ripped off. I had the cucumber roll and tempura which I deeply regret. I’m still feeling sick from the food there 4 hours later.

Loveeeeeee the baby lobster and the baked scallop rolls! They always have fresh sushi; if I lived in Torrance again I’d be there all the time~

I love sushi, since when? Since about the age of 8. I love Kai, since when? Since my sophomore/junior year in high school.haha. This place offers good quality rolls/sushi which can be a hard thing to find these days. When sitting at the sushi bar I’ve always received the best customer service! My favorite roll here will forever be the lobster roll, it’s the perfect amount of creamy and baked. Definitely give this place a shot if you’re in the area, you won’t be disappointed.

Great place to hang out, especially if you love sushi! Ambience is more of a bar scene — dark with tv’s everywhere playing sports. Great servers who are attentive and give great recommendations. And the food is pretty good as well. Ordered the seared tuna tanaki, and two of their specialty rolls — Mango roll, and Rainbow roll The fish was fresh and had lots of flavor! All in all, I would recommend Kai Sushi for a great spot to grab sushi and chill with friends

So… The wifey and I have been eye FUC’n this place for a while. Sandwiched between Gen KBQ and L&L Hawaiian, it’s located way back in the North-East corner of the Crossroads shopping center on the Torrance /Lomita border. The place doesn’t really stand out much either. But, we frequent the area a lot and it has been on our radar for some time. Walking in the door, our first impression was just so /so at best. The furniture /tables are a bit outdated, borderline old.(I’m not sure if that is by design or not). The place does have a nice Sushi Bar area and overall, is decent sized. Kai bills itself as a «Sports Bar» but that self proclamation is pretty FUC’n generous. There are a couple of 42″ or so sized TV’s near the bar but to me, two televisions do not a Sports Bar make. We were cheerfully greeted by Lee, who doubled as our server. Service was good, but there was a time or two when we thought Lee may have been abducted by aliens, taken hostage or gone M.I.A. But, the other server in the joint,(who’s name I am not sure of), was a pretty proficient guy and more than decent backup. He checked in on us a couple times and picked up when and where Lee fell short… Our food /sushi was served promptly. My biggest complaint in that regard was that the Miso Soup, which was pretty lean on the Tofu that I so enjoy. But that’s being pretty petty… The sushi,(of which we ordered quite a bit), was fresh and tastee to say the least. We each started off with the soup, then a cucumber salad. Then we chowed down on some staples,(California Roll, a couple Crunch Rolls, Crab Roll), as well as a couple of what to us, were«newbies» like a Hawaiian Roll,(quite spicey… Mikey likey), and a Chicken Teriyaki Roll. All delish!!! Washed it all down with a couple Sapporo’s and an Asahi for me. Threw in some plum wine for the wifey and when it was all said and done, I think we transformed into the shape of sushi rolls ourselves. Stuffed like all Hell and ready to explode from all the food /rice. We were also lucky enough to save a few $$$ because of the Happy Hour Specials that were in effect. All that for ~$ 75!!! Definitely worth a repeat visit.

Friday night, prime time 1÷22÷16 @830pm. We enter get a table immediately. First word out of the server’s mouth«sorry for the mess» and walked away, he didn’t even bother to clean the table! I had to wipe the table with the napkins! lol. Finally we ordered our food, our sushi/rolls arrived like 5 or so mins after each other. We would be done with one plate and waiting on the next to arrive. Just get everything out all at once! Also, of all the plates only one had pinch of wasabi and Ginger! I asked the waiter for more wasabi/ginger and he didn’t come back! Lol Not to mention as we concluded our second to the last meal, we waited another 10 – 15 mins and our favorite albacore sushi never came! Frustrated and irritated I just asked for the bill. Told them to cancel my last sushi order and they adjusted the bill accordingly. Service was slow! Not really attentive either. In all honesty the sushi/rolls were mediocre at best unfortunately. We are definitely not ever coming back. I left still hungry and upset, lol. I don’t recommend this place to anyone. Avoid at all costs!

Love coming to this place! The service is excellent and the food is fantastic and fresh. Chung and Frankie are awesome. These guys are always super friendly and accommodating. Never have to ask twice for anything. They know their stuff. Chung is very attentive as a server. Frankie always makes the best rolls behind the sushi bar. I love their baked Salmon rolls and their boxes. Their sashimi is also always very fresh and good portions. I would highly recommend anyone who wants quality sushi and service to come and eat here. Will definitely be coming back!

3 Stars because I came on a Saturday with my FAM after yoga and although it was not busy the service was terrible. Just inattentive. We had to flag down the waitress multiple times to take our order, ask for condiments, ask for the bill/boxes. This really deserves a 2 Star. I’ve been here once before a few years back and it was the same thing. The ONLY reason it gets that extra one is because for a Lunch Combo with three rolls(California, Tempura, Tuna) was only $ 12.

Came here twice… first time was a while ago and I think we ordered a salmon teriyaki plate or sow thing and the heat attach appetizer… I remember the staff being really friendly. So bf and I came back today and sorry to say we left not wanting to come back. We had the super philly, tuna tataki roll, salmon skin roll and the heart attack app. Just off of presentation… the tuna tataki looked messy and ripped apart and placed on top. I also thought it was odd that the philly and the Cali roll that was the base of the tataki roll didn’t have avocado… I didn’t read the menu specifically but I’ve never had sushi anywhere w Cali rolls or philly that doesn’t have avocado. The main disappointment was the rice… On the philly roll it literally was mush… like it was so mushy that it was pressed into a sheet like film around the roll… Almost like rice paper. I complained and got half off the roll which was nice but I sent it back so I feel like they should have taken it off the bill. The rice on all the rolls was the same… just mushy. I don’t know how they would even sell that. Not sure if the chef just didn’t feel like wasting the rice or if it’s always like that here but it was a total waste of my 35 bucks. Felt like sending all the sushi back but didn’t want to be one of those people… The heart attack appetizer was pretty good but a little skimpy on the jalapeños…most of it was imitation crab. Nice staff but I would only come here for drinks or apps if I was in the area. Might give their sushi another try some day.

I really got to enjoy this place. You wouldn’t believe how affable their staff is! I didn’t get the guy’s name who helped us but he was very very nice and gave us a lot of recommendations. I tried their miso soup which had tofu pieces and it was a bit salty but good miso soup. Their small side salad didn’t have enough dressing and some of the red sauce it was topped with tasted a bit spicy. I also had their shrimp tempura which was fried till it had a nice gold color… YUM. SASHIMIHEREISDELICIOUS! I had my doubts about their teriyaki chicken since they make it with dark meat instead of white meat but dang it was good. Gotta go back to try their sushi rolls next time!

Kai sushi is a great place to come if you are craving sushi, but don’t want to spend a crazy amount of money. Overall it’s a nice time and a safe bet. Most rolls are under $ 12, and are pretty standard. They offer some of the more luxurious items, like uni and oysters, and the quality was decent. We ordered: Hot night roll: 3 stars. Shrimp tempura and spicy tuna. Not very spicy, but it was good. Kai roll: 4 stars. Crab and spicy tuna roll that was deep fried in tempura batter. Soooo good, but very decadent. Lobster roll: 4 stars. Nice chunks of lobster. Again in a creamy/mayo like sauce. Red snapper, tuna, masago, uni nigiri: 2.5 stars. The masago and uni were fine. The other two fell apart on me. I think maybe too much sauce on the rice? The fish quality was good but a very small portion. I think for the price though, it was fair. It wasn’t super cheap, but it was reasonable. Oysters: 5 stars Most of their rolls are California Roll based, which is fine, but it can get a little overwhelming since their mayo sauce is very rich. All of the sauces here are applied with a heavy hand, which was totally fine with me, because that’s what you should expect when you come to a non-traditional sushi joint. The service here is very friendly and courteous. There are a lot of places like Kai sushi in this area, but the service here was a notch above. Will definitely be back to try some of their other dishes.
