Really bummed that this place is gone. It’s now a Fatburger! :(

Great another Filipino joint in the vicinity of Carson! I have frequented many Filipino restaurants around Southern California especially in areas where there is a heavy Filipino presence(I probably should say Pilipino because«f» doesn’t exist in the alphabet but that’s a topic for some other day) From the outside while cruising along Carson St you might not even think this place serves Pilipino food but once you actually pull up to the window you can immediately tell that there must be some tasty bad cholesterol and high sodium laced goodness being offered here. For a measly $ 7.99 they offer a all you can devour which contains about 7 – 8 items. The offerings tend to rotate each day and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were putting out yesterdays leftovers(nothing wrong with that… more flavor with age right?) back onto the buffet trays. Not Filipino? No shame in asking what’s in that buffet tray! However I came here for the sisig. It gets the hype on several reviews here on Unilocal! It’s nice and crispy and fatty. Forget eating healthy and don’t bring folks who don’t touch the swine because you’ll offend them with your nice stack of sisig goodness. If you could you probably sneak in some tortillas and make your sisig tacos.(But they offer shrimp tacos so it probably is worth a try to ask for tortillas with your sisig! So I’ll say it now the sisig is pretty darn good! Well probably not as good sisig here as Magic Wok or having it at your crazy uncle named Tito Boy who has got it down on how to make sisig like they do back home. Nevertheless the portion is pretty good for a husky man(ok…fat toad) to enjoy and at $ 10.99 it’s priced well not to leave you feeling ripped off. You can request more scallions/green onions and grab the colored menu. Hey the sisig served here actually looks like the photo! None of that photoshopped foolishness here! Ordering it to go? Well don’t leave it out too long… it’s better to consume it quickly because after a while it would just get stale. And if you are of age enjoy Maegan’s Grill Sisig with a beer… any beer you drink is fine(warm or cold) Well if you do end up eating sisig often at Maegan’s no worries since there is Harbour UCLA Medical Center right across the street to deal with your diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and so on!

My girl and I love Filipino food. We also have no desire to live very long. I kid. The fattiness of the delicious kare kare soup, the cholesterolity of the sisig with fried bits on top, dis ish is gooooood. this place is reasonably priced, delicious food, and close enough that you can roll me home. Lunch buffet is no where near as good as the dinner plates. Fresh is always better than sitting around for a while.

I tried the buffet here a long time ago and wasn’t too impressed the first time. It’s been a year and I’ve seen fellow Unilocalers give rave about the buffet and so decided to give this another try. Much to my surprise when I came here on a Friday with a friend and we were told there was no buffet. We were told by the waitress that there was something going on in the kitchen this day and so there was no buffet that day. They were however offering $ 4.991 item combos or $ 5.992 item combos. Choices for the combo included sisig, chicken adobo, sizzling pork, sizzling chicken, fish bangus, and menudo. My friend got a 2 item combo of fish bangus and sisig. I got the mixed pancit. I was originally going to get sizzling chicken but we saw a nearby table with pancit and it looked delicious. Later on however I kinda wished I got the sizzling chicken because another table got it and it looked great. It was served on a little skillet and it was indeed sizzling. Our orders were served pretty quickly. I tried the sisig and it is pretty good. I think this is actually one of the specialities of Maegan’s Grill. The mixed pancit was too salty. They put way too much soy sauce. Hmm I remember 2 years ago, this was already how their pancit was and it still has not changed :(. They need to minimize the soy sauce they put in that. The pancit also did not have that many toppings compared to other places. They put some chicken adobo and I got a pork rib in there but there’s really not that much toppings. Too much sauce, too little toppings. Overall, I’d probably give this place 3 stars but I’m not too pleased at how salty the pancit was & how much soy sauce there was in it. I still think Maegan’s Grill has some room to improve. 2 years ago their pancit had the same problem with the pancit & it still salty. Eek, water please

When you come to Maegan’s Grill there is one dish that you MUST try. The sisig. Whenever I crave good olé food Filipino food especially Bangus or Sisig I come here. It comes out sizzling, with tons of pork, and crispy pig skin. I know it’s not good for you but hey you live only once so enjoy it. The pancit canton is OK, the grilled bangus comes out perfectly and is moist not overcooked. Wash it down with some Mango or Calamansi juice with karaōke and you have good time at a cheap price.

I went here a while ago with girlfriend and friend. Good thing was I was allowed to get the buffet & they got to order off the menu. They had around 8 – 9 options. The buffet wasn’t the best… it was kind of nasty… only thing I really liked was the fish siniguan. They had fried talapia, chicken curry, and can’t remember what else. However, the items my friends order was much better and not bad. Price was decent. Buffet is not… really worth trying. ahaha…

I come here for two things and I never hesitate… SISIG and House of Silvanas. Sisig comes out sizzling and delicious. I’d finish the whole thing to myself but its better that I spare myself from clogged arteries haha but seriously… there’s no other place that serves their sisig this amazing. A lot of things are good too and I still want to try the crispy pata. House of Silvanas used to have their own shop in Harbor City/Torrance then they moved to Carson. Now I think they just sell ready-made boxes out of Maegan’s Grill. But wherever they go, i’ll be following! These desserts are so light and perfect. I don’t even know how to describe them. light buttercream in the middle between flaky wafers. They keep it chilled so its like eating a light ice cream cookie. My favorite flavors are pandan and strawberry but they also have chocolate, ube, and original.

i can’t give my «professional» review because 1) i’m not filipino and wouldnt know good from bad, other than what my taste buds tells me and 2) most of the filipino food i’ve had have been home made. so on to my short but sweet review. Food — we had a big group of people, so we ordered the meat and seafood platter to share. the platters were plentiful. the meat platter came with 3 – 4 types of meats including the crispy pata(i remembered this because underneath all that fried crust was really juicy and tasty pork). the seafood platter was just OK. it had mussles, milkfish(whatever that is), squid and some other fish. Price — i thought the price was descent at approx $ 35.00 per platter and between 7 adults, it wasn’t bad a lot. Service — The restaurant is small, very limited seating area. Our big group took up probably ¾ of the whole place, so they pretty much attended to us. servers were nice and helpful. although they had a hard time calculating our bill in order for us to split our check, but whatever, no big deal. what i DONT like is when they charge you for rice… and it’s PERSCOOP. seriously? i really dont understand asian restaurants that charge you for rice. isn’t that a STAPLE of most asian food? good thing i’m not a big rice eater. =D p. s. we ordered one of the pancit dishes, which in the picture had eggs and taiwanese sausage(which was one of the main reasons we ordered it), but when the plate came, it looked nothing like the picture. when we asked the server about it, all he pointed out was the FINEPRINT on the menu indicating that«ingredients may change at any time». wow… seriously? hahaha

I’d read about House of Silvana and really wanted to try the silvanas. Meagan’s Grill and another joint in LA are the only ones in Socal that served them so we decided to come here just for that. Fortunately for them, we came from an all day event and ended up bringing over 20 hungry Filipinos to eat. We ordered the meat platter(crispy pata, pork belly, bbq chicken and beef) and seafood platter(tuna collar, stuffed milkfish, grilled squid), and kare-kare. My only gripe was that the food took a while to arrive but when it did, it all made up for it. Everything tasted great but I wished that I had ordered the sisig. I guess that’s something I can look forward to next time. We were so full that I had to get the silvanas to go.

I’ve been in a couple of Filipino restaurants and Meagan’s Grill was the best of them. We tried it once and we became fans! I can’t wait to go back again and try all of their food! *cookie monster: «yum yum yum yum”* We got sisig, lechon and garlic fried rice. Servings are usually good for 3 — 4 person and since there’s only 2 of us so the serving was too much for us! We end up taking left overs… which was good! Haha. The service was quick and all the staff are very friendly(which I rarely see in places like this). The cooks even serve us the dish themselves and greeted us. How cool is that? They also serve Filipino beverages and pastries! They are soo good! I agree with cheryl r… if you’re looking for good, Filipino comfort food, try Meagan’s. You’ll never regret it. They also take take out orders and pick-up orders. By the way, they also have Karaōke Nights(I think, because they have this small stage with mic and large flat screen for Karaōke) and you can make reservations if you need a place for parties or just for a simple get-together.

If you are looking for some really good Filipino Comfort food, this is the restaurant to visit. I didn’t bother with the buffet. I didn’t see anything worthwhile. Besides, it’s much better and fresher when you get something made to order. The Crispy Pata lived up to its name. The skin was slightly salty and crispy. The meat was soft, juicy and succulent. Make sure they give you the garlic, vinegar soy sauce dip for your pork. I really cared for the Kare Kare. they give you this huge bowl filled with bok choy, egg plant, tripe and braised oxtails swimming in a thick buttery peanut gravy. The oxtail meat was so tender that it literally fell off the bone. To wash your food down, be sure to order the melon water. Cool and refreshing and Not too sweet. They give you a big straw so that you could suck up the Freshly grated cantaloupe at the bottom. tasty. The food we ordered is a bit heavy but it’s well worth it once in a great while. I’ll definitely come back when my cholesterol is at a stable level again.

Seriously… Maegan rapes Mr. Né when it comes to Filipino Buffets here. So for a while now, I have heard so much good stuff about Maegan’s Grill. One day, me and my dad tried it out for lunch. We arrived at 10am because their big banner outside said that they were open at 10am for the lunch buffet. Ok, so we get there and why in the blue’s clues hell are they NOTOPEN??? They didn’t open till 11am!!! There’s «Good Morning Black America» time and then my fellow Unilocal brothers and sisters… this was a fine example of «FILIPINOTIME». To dumb it down for you all, what I’m basically saying is that THEYSTARTEDLATEWHENTHEYWERESUPPOSEDTOSTARTONTIME. Now…if this was a Filipino party, I WOULDUNDERSTAND… but this is a motha-sex’n BUSINESS! C’mon, now! It does NOTMAKESENSE at all to me like Manny being afraid to take a steroids test before whooping Mayweather’s ass! Okay, Okay… Serenity now!!! So me and my dad get in and ask one of the workers what was up with the banner outside promoting that they opened at 10am, yet they opened at 11am? The guy said«Ohh, sorry po, we’re actually taking down that sign today». Funny thing was that we came back a week or so later and to this day, the banner is STILLUP! This is some bull… MINUSONESTAR! That’s not me being snobby, that’s me pointing out when a business FAILED at something… okay…ONTOTHENEXT, ON, ON, TOTHENEXTONE… Parking was not bad since it’s in a strip mall that people hardly go to. Their FOOD was GREAT! NOTBETTER than Manila Sunrise, but still great! Customer service is AWESOME! Oh my god… the restroom was clean too, but what made me smile and laugh was the fact that they had a freakin TABO(a water pail to wash your ass!) in their restroom! HAHAHA! AWESOME! One last thing… there are homeless people outside of this place, if you can… give them some food or money to help them out during these tough times… seriously. Okay…back to my review… INSIDE, it’s NICE and CLEAN and the music they play is pretty damn cool because it’s music from The Philippines by the Eraserheads and other popular musicians from P.I. I even heard some heavy metal Filipino songs while I was eating! AWESOME! Although I would NOT eat here at any other time except for their lunch buffet time because when it’s NOT the buffet time, the food is pretty damn expensive, I still like this place!

I’ve passed by this place so many times before but never thought it was a Filipino restaurant just by its name. It looked closed all the time too, with the white curtains blocking the view of what’s inside. I went there to see a rock band with some friends and was entertained. The band is great. Talented people. I tried the pancit, sisig, garlic rice, and crispy pata. The only thing that tasted pretty good was the sisig; worth getting for how much they charge. However, I think it’d be better to have tomatoes on the side than lemon wedges. The pancit is bland and kind of oily. It needs more flavor from fresh veggies and chicken broth than using Maggi seasoning(which a lot of restaurants love to use in their pancit. pancit does not taste good when used as the main seasoning) The garlic rice needs more flavor; some sea salt perhaps? The crispy pata was okay, which is pricey for its size.

We always used to pass by this place and never gave it a second glance because we never really heard anything about it. We came here not for the food, but for the entertainment. There was a great band playing and our friends invited us to come out and see them. Much to our surprise, the food was actually pretty good. We had a pretty large group and we ordered a whole bunch of goodies. We got a bbq meat platter, some pancit, some lumpia, some garlic friend rice and sisig. Their food was yummy. We really enjoyed their sisig, pancit and the bbq meat platter. They have an array of desserts to choose from. We originaly ordered the flan, but they ran out, so we decided to go for the halo halo instead. We were a little dissappointed because it didn’t look exactly like it did in the pic(they substituted the ube ice cream with regular vanilla instead — not the same). Regardless, I thought this place was a good find. We’ll be back there again.

Filipino Food! Really Friendly Hosts and Clean!!! They used to have really good lunch specials that they have now substituted for the buffet. I like the old lunch specials better. They were cooked when you ordered. The lunch buffet just sits out in pans. It is ok. What is better here is if you order off the menu. I would give items off the menu 4 stars, except they are expensive. Expensive. but good. They are now selling sylvana cookies. The cookies are great. Thank you Tiffany B! Meagan’s is located directly across the street from Harbor UCLA. While you are eating, you get the pleasure of hearing all the hospital gossip in tagalog. You get to hear who the mayabongs are and who is having relations with who. I would suggest ordering from the munu because you are going to get more home style food. But, I bet most of their customers are from across the street, which I bet is their biggest competition… the hospital potluck! Meagan’s is an ok place and I will continue to stop by now and again. especially that they are selling sylvana cookies! Again, the folks that run this place are super nice and I always have an enjoyable meal.

I’ve eaten at their other establishment in Carson and it’s good. I’m picky about Filipino food in general. I don’t like salty foods or fat. I knowwwwwww fat gives the meat flavor and I admit it does but seriously I waste the fat. Anyway to me it seemed the food was better at the other location but maybe it’s just me. I had: grilled boneless Bangus– pretty good, not too salty for my preference kare-kare– not creamy enough for me but perfect amount of meat & veggies pinakbet– pretty good, a bit salty because of the shrimp paste but it was tolerable for me sinigang– i love mine super sour and i love a lot of veggies, not enough veggies for me and it was decently sour but i put like extra packets of the sauce hahaha grilled tuna head– moist and good pretty okay, salty a bit but that’s typical Filipino dishes. The only think I wouldn’t get again is the kare-kare, g-ma always makes it better =)

Had lunch here today. My friend and I were excited about trying the«new» Maegan’s Grill out since we haven’t eaten here since they moved locations. From my review of the original location: I’ll give them 1 more star. They’ve made improvements over my last review. They now use actual plate /silver ware. No more paper plates and plastic utensils. They have fountain drinks now rather than serving aluminum cans(you get 1 refill free). The place is much bigger and in a busy location, just off the 110 and right across from Harbor UCLA. The sisig was just as good as I remembered it. And the lechon kawali was the same as well.

3.5 Stars. The sisig was one of the best I’ve tasted(besides the one my Uncle makes). Also tried the tuna collar, pancit, lumpia, sinigang baboy and a host of other dishes. Some of the dishes were a little more expensive than I expected but nothing too drastic. Service was good and friendly. I would of given them 4 stars but they didn’t have Pancit Palabok. Also, I never knew this was a Filipino joint until my in-laws brought me here. «Maegan’s Grill» doesn’t sound like a typical Fiipino restaurant name. This could be a good or bad thing. They might want to put«Filipino» somewhere in their sign in my opinion.

They moved from Avalon to Carson St and at a better location. Finally a lot more parking and much easier place to access for some Filipino BBQ. They had their Grand Re-Opening today, August 15th, and the place still served the same good tasting Filipino BBQ. I always order the Sizzling Pork and it tasted the same as it was back in Avalon. But, you have a lot more room to dine in and plenty of parking space. The only draw back is the restaurant is across from the hospital and once everyone knows they are here, most Filipino nurses and doctors will be dining here and the place will probably get packed for lunch and diner! The location is a lot better than before because of lighting, space and parking and may be I’ll do a UYE once I know the flow of traffic in the restaurant in a couple of weeks.
