HORRIFIEDATTHECONDITIONOFTHEHORSES. The horses here were filthy and underweight. They were standing in the sun, with no shelter(I have since seen a canvas tarp stretched over them). The«guide» was abusive to his horse — he explained he was«training«it. I am a former horse owner/trainer and lifelong rider with a Bachelors Degree in Equine Science. I have managed a «trail barn» with healthy, clean horses and tack(saddles, blankets…). THEREISNOEXCUSE! PLEASEDONOTBEFOOLED! There is a clean, friendly stable with healthy horses inside the park. That is the stable referred to by Lyndsey D, Cole M & Stephanie T(note the reference to Cade’s Cove Loop in the park).

Had a great ride! Guide was patient and kind with my 8 year old, and kept the teenagers entertained! Thank you Elias.

We did the carriage ride, they allowed our daughters to sit on the top and hold the reins for a significant part of the ride. The staff was all very friendly, it was a great time. The kids got to pet the horses afterward, we were told interesting facts about the area and animals. In the actual scenic loop we saw up close a black bear with her three cubs, she was behind one of the cabins, so definitely get out and walk around and explore, also found a buck and a doe behind other cabins. Wild turkeys as well, we had a VERY fun day at Cades Cove!

So I’d give Cades Cove a 5 if I saw a black bear, but I didn’t so it is only getting a 4! This is a great FREE day trip for anyone in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area. Absolutely beautiful especially in December. Slight snow follage and iced over old mills make for some amazing photos. Be patient when going around the Cades Loop. Despite the signs to be courteous and pull to the side when taking photos or looking at wildlife, many feel it necessary to just sit in the middle of the road and stare off into open fields while 7 cars are backed up. Great trip and fun for all ages! Highly recommend it if you are in the area!
