I was devastated to see that Café Spice was listed as closed, but it has just moved down the street to Cockeysville– The new address is 10540 York Road, and the phone number is 410−891−8740.

Hells to the Yeah, this place is amazing. This place was my Cheers when I lived in Towson, we could call up and they would know us by voice, and know our basic order. The owners, a couple named Jirish and Rani, are THEBUTTERS. Rani is like my second mom. I go there for the hugs alone. The menu is extensive, and you can definitely explore outside your comfort zone. You can go native and get it Indian-from-India hot, and they will oblige you, not coddle your poor bland American palate like some places. I had my first goat curry here(sorry you vegetarians!) and it was DELICIOUS. I used to go there so much that they would give me little tidbits every now and then to educate my non-Indian palate. I remember once glancing at the dessert menu, and I was half-sold on some sweetness except that I didn’t know where I would fit it after all the curry. Rani then waltzed up with this delicious carrot-y dessert, and you think, «Dessert? Made from carrots! I will pretend that it’s healthy! Why thank you! I can feel my eyesight improving as I eat!» I love them. Jirish is the cook, and I need to give him a «Kiss the Cook» apron because he deserves it. He is a GENIUS. AND. The chai is amazing. I have spent many a night sleepless because I would order cup after cup of chai. Wow. So good.

This is an excellent Indian restaurant. The food is excellent and the portions are generous. The restaurant is clean and tidy. If you want your dish to be spicy, then ask. You will have to ask for the heat, this is Towson after all. The only unpleasant thing about this restaurant is that you have to BEG for more rice. I think we had to ask about three times for a rice refill and then the bowl of rice was tiny. This place is great for a large group and is kid friendly. Ronnie is hilarious. Love her.

I tried Café Spice twice and have found the food to be great. The Mulagatani soup is awesome.

It was good. I would have liked a larger selection for desserts, rice and meats in the buffet. No dish was memorable or something to write home about. We went here because of all the other fine reviews, but just didn’t see what they were raving about. Maybe I am spoiled, living in DC, with a number of amazing Indian places… this one just didn’t jump out at me.

Came back and made sure to ask for a spicier chicken tikka masala and they happily obliged. Ask and ye shall receive. Yum!

Better than average Indian food and very good service. They do have a decent beer selection though(for an Indian restaurant).

I recently had jury duty and went here for every single day of it. If you ever have jury duty in Baltimore County, this is the place to go. This was my first opportunity to try to the lunch buffet, and it was really great. It changed every day and was very much a deal for $ 8.99. There was always soup(usually vegetarian), always naan and rice, always two to three vegetarian dishes, usually bean based, then salad, and then there appeared to be two chicken dishes per day. I think Chicken Tikka Masala was on the buffet every day. It must be popular. I enjoyed a spicy tomato soup, lentil dal, vegetable nuggets in a spicy cream sauce(I can’t remember the name), and another bean dish I can’t remember at the time. I think it was black lentils with kidney beans. On the third day, I had chana masala, which was the best chana masala I’ve ever had, anywhere. I was nursing a cold these few days I was able to eat at Café Spice, but somehow the cooking knocked it right out of me and I was feeling much better. I think Indian food must be good for you.

i LOVE Café Spice! Its my fav Indian restaurant Ive ever been too. The menu is huge, and the food is delish. I always tend to get the Mali Kofta and Samosas — my boyfriend loves the chicken sag. Of course we always order extra of the delicious nan. you can tell that the food at Café Spice has been made fresh, and has a nice spice to it. Rich creamy sauces, and perfectly seasoned food… Café Spice is located a few blocks from my house and the owner will deliver food to our house regularly. Which is a great bonus. And its quick! We ordered the other night, and our food was here in less then 20 minutes. Speaking of the owner, she is so nice. She remembers my name, address, fav menu items and how spicy I’d like my dish just by my voice when I call in orders! She is very friendly and will go above and beyond to make sure we have a great meal(when we order delivery, or if we eat in). If you eat in at Café Spice you are in for a treat… it is located in the basement of a building on York Road(right near towson square). the insides have a certain charm to them from being several restaurants over the years. Not that I am saying anything bad about it, I like it. It makes the experience unique. If you like Indian food, be sure to check out Café Spice, you wont be disappointed! yum, yum, YUM!

Read about this as it opened in the Towson Times. As vegetarians, our family has a few options in the area, but this one has become a regular and a family favorite. Great Korma, Saag, samosas and so much more. The location is downstairs and is a huge location that this restaurant uses for parties at times. Having hosted a large get together there, it was excellent as a family style dinner for 14 people. The owners are always friendly and the staff goes out of their way to make the kids feel at home. Highly recommended.

Dunno wht took me so long, to write a review for this place… A relli relli nice indian restaurant run by a very friendly owner. The food is pretty good… if not the best. They started this thing called — ‘lunch box’ where you get to select 2 entrees, rice, naan and the dessert.(Small quantity) for 5.99. It turned out to be the perfect size for a workday lunch. If I go for a buffet, i end up over-eating and then am not productive at work :) Anyways…looks like they are closed till mid-aug. I will be the 1st person to go back, once they re-open.

Great service but my food was not so tasty. We ordered two entrees and we shared them. Chicken was dry and veggie dish was like licking a lime. Naan was great. Rice fine. Tablecloth stained. Pass on this one next time. The service was fine. It could have just been a bad day for them.

First off, I was craving Indian food and my friend has never had Indian food… I enlisted to help of Unilocal to find a decent place. Started the day off with various Korean foods, went for Indian and ended the night with French. Yeah… I got my bases covered. Military chow hall won’t break me… I tried all of the joints I wanted to hit up within a week. Anyway this place had great reviews, so we made the mini trek to Towson for dinner. We walk down to the dungeon… as others have stated… this place is in the basement and felt kind of like a dungeon. It was DESERTED at 5PM on a Tuesday. When that happens, usually I am tempted to run like something horrible just happened. But, I did a quick scan. Staff was friendly, couldn’t be them. The place was clean, that’s a good sign. The food wasn’t overpriced, checked the menu online so it couldn’t be that. The my last thought would be that the food sucks, but Unilocal said this place was good. WTH?! We went with it. The delivered water glasses promptly and had some sort of water cracker-like thing with 2 types of sauce. My inner hick wants to say these were simply water crackers with steak sauce and salsa. That was what I was reminded of. Tasty treat thogh. Onto the actual order– chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, and vegetable vindaloo. I thought we would get enough chicken to comforably split, not the case. The chicken had about 6 medium size chunks with excessive sauce. It was good, but I could clear that alone in a matter of seconds. The vegetable vindaloo was very spicy, but tasty and there was plenty of vegetables for us to comfortably split. The garlic naan was okay. But honestly, the naan in the freezer section at Trader Joe’s is WAYYYBETTER! Service was very kind and attentive. Then again, I’d be ticked otherwise considering we were literally the only patrons there for the entire hour we dined. And our water glasses were always full, sometimes to the point where it was getting annoying. But, I don’t complain at great service. I’d go back for buffet only, so I can control how much chicken I devour. My friend liked this as his first Indian food experience. Success.

I liked this place! We were shocked at how big it was once you head downstairs. The chai was pretty good but I was hoping for free refills(possible they give them, but we weren’t offered any). Loved the pappadum crackers for appetizers– very unique. My husband got the lamb tikka masala and I got the paneer tikka masala. I wasn’t crazy about the masala sauce(it was too sweet, needed to be a little spicier), but it was good. Next time I would try something different, though I thought the lamb was cooked just right– very moist. We loved the garlic naan– they put a ton of garlic and cilantro on– delicious! The service was great and very friendly.

A great Indian restaurant! The staff was very nice and very attentive. We ordered samosas, lentil dish, eggplant dish and two orders of garlic naan. The portion size was big and the food was delicious! We had asked for medium spice and it was just right. The naan was soft on the inside and crispy on the outside edges. It was also covered in garlic and cilantro. Yummie!!! Soda and chai tea also comes with free refills. The bill for two came to $ 44 which includes tip. A great deal for the amount of food and the quality of food we received!

This was hands down the best Indian food I have ever eaten. We had lamb rogan josh, chicken tikka masala, and alloo gobi. Plus naan and samosas. Everything was so wonderful, and had such depth of flavor. The owners and servers were all very friendly. I can’t wait to go back.

I recently ate at the Sunday lunch buffet, and was shocked so few people were there(maybe since school is out nobodys around). There were several meat dishes, several veggie ones, soup, naan, and some gulab jamun for dessert. I’ll start with the veggie ones. The palak paneer was tasty, spinach with cheese cubes. Nothing extraordinary compared to other indian restaurants. The chana masala was also the same, good but nothing spectacular. The malai kofta was the best! It had this sweet & spiced flavor. Absolutely my favorite! Naan was good, the chaat was really good. The meat dishes burst with flavor. Chicken-tikka masala wasn’t in the butter sauce, but had other spices, and was very good. Goat curry was okay, my least favorite. The tandoori chicken was great, although some of it was undercooked… two days later I’m not sick! Gulab Jamun was good, the balls were smaller than others places buffets, but were still good. Services was smooth, the hostess refilled my water, took away my plates quickly. The ambiance is nice, with music playing in the background, and the place is in the basement. Great place!

Best Indian food in the Baltimore area! Authentic, subtle flavors are the hallmark of their wide-ranging menu. Most dishes can be ordered with your choice of «hot» spice. The Gobi Manchuri appetizer(deep fried cauliflower) is fabulous, especially if you like your food very spicy. And there are other, less«hot» appetizers from which to choose. I enjoy the Gobi dish with the Kachumber Salad, which helps offset the heat. Main dishes include choices of beef, chicken, lamb, goat, shrimp, fish or vegetable/vegetarian, each available in a variety of Indian styles. Tandoori choices are awesome: try the Chicken Tikka! Rogan Josh, a «regional Indian delicacy,» is best with lamb. The restaurant recently added«lite bites,» which are Indian wraps of some of their entrée choices– less food, lower price, great for lunch. However, their lunch buffet, served 7 days, is unparalleled both in terms of breadth and value! The owners– he cooks and she helps serve– are friendly, attentive and happy to offer ordering suggestions that fit your tastes. We’ve taken friends to Café Spice who have spent extended periods in India(unlike us) and they were very impressed with the authenticity and quality of the food. Though the entrance is unassuming, don’t pass by this gem of a restaurant!
