Coalition of Tracy Citizens to Assist the Homeless was started about 3 years ago when a retired Tracy High School teacher’s heart was touched by a homeless person. He tried to set up a way for the homeless in Tracy to take a shower by buying an RV and driving around town. Then, he founded the«Coalition» as a non-profit so he could raise money to help the homeless. He organized churches to feed the homeless everyday at the park and to this day, they have a hot meal 365 days/year. About 6 months ago, he helped to acquire a rental property to house homeless men who he, and his volunteers would help to transition into productive Tracy citizens who could afford their own place to live. Today, The Emerson House provides shelter, food and counselling to 11, otherwise homeless men, who will, with the help of the Tracy community, be able to move out on their own and thus, make room for other homeless people to get help. The Coalition wants to expand to be able to offer other houses for woman and families; to be an ongoing«hand up» for Tracy’s homeless population. We know that when Tracy citizens learn about this effort, they will all want to give a little and that a lot of people giving a little will add up to a lot. Let’s work together, in a community act of human kindness, to lend a helping hand to these people in need.
