Beautiful hilltop tasting room. Not as large as some of the more commercial wineries on the peninsula. $ 3 tasting for five wines. There are a few limited wines that you pay extra to taste. There are a few white wines here that we enjoy and a red. This puts this winery over the top for me. This spot has a reserve Pinot noir that is very good.(And in Michigan!)

This place is a hidden gem. It’s $ 3 for a wine tasting, and just $ 2 extra and you can keep the souvenir wine glass. The wines were nicely done, but lacked just a bit of the complexity and maturity of some of the better established wineries on the peninsula. I still ended up buying two bottles, of course. And finally, you can’t write a review about Hawthorne without commenting on it’s view; it’s absolutely stunning!

This is one of my go-to wine tasting places, especially when I have company in town. The Pinot Grigio is my favorite. It’s conveniently located when you are doing the wine tasting loop or just want to run out to one or two. Jan, the manager, and the staff are approachable and wonderfully fun!

Wine was delicious, service was fantastic and we had no wait on a Saturday for tastings! $ 3 tasting give us 6 wines and $ 3 off a bottle. They have no corkage license but you can enjoy a glass of wine on a gorgeous balcony overlooking water from two sides!

Not as impressed with the wine as I was with the view. They were very busy but we were still served promptly. All the wines are dry which is fine with me however I only found one wine I actually liked. Nice to stop and see but wouldn’t return.

My new FAV winery! If you want a break from the sweet wines this is the place for you(only 1 sweet on the menu). The VIEW! because Hawthorne is a the narrowest part of the peninsula you can see both bays when sitting out on the patio. The PATIO! is beautiful, the fieldstone outdoor fireplace is a great touch. We were lucky enough to be there when they had the band BENNET playing out on the patio. If I could have had a charcuterie board it would have been perfection(they are new and still working out the food-you can get crackers and cheese). This is a must visit on your winery tour(they also have a private room for large groups). Jan, the tasting room mgr, is really FAB too!

The wines are good but they are almost all dry wines. If your a sweet wine drinker this not the place for you. If you like dry then stop here. The scenery is very beautiful. There is a long winding road leading up to it with the bay in the background. The previous reviewer is right the service is iffy but everything else makes up for it.

Pros: — Great wine! We especially liked the Gamay Noir and bought a bottle of it. — Great variety of wines — we saw a few different kinds of wine that weren’t at the other wineries — Intimate — Beautiful decorating — their bathroom was so gorgeous I would rent it out and live in it! Cons: — Our bartender had a really unpleasant attitude. It seemed to bother her that we were there and asking her to pour our wine. She didn’t smile a single time and didn’t respond well to questions or attempts at conversation. I almost gave this winery 3 stars because of her extremely poor service.
