My boyfriend and I had a wonderful 3 night stay. Beautiful king size room overlooking the bay and Lake Michigan! Great staff and service. We would highly recommend this resort if you happen to vacation this way and great location!

My boyfriend and I stayed this past weekend. The hotel itself is pretty decent. I would say not above average. Our room had a jacuzzi tub that had some water and blue staining in it when we arrived. I assume it was from being cleaned(I hope, actually). The bathroom smelled like old urine. And the bathroom floor had some wet spots and stains. I called the front desk immediately after noticing and they sent someone from maintenance to take a look. He told me it was«probably cleaning residue» but cleaned it for us anyway, which was nice. But once we used the shower, the shower smelled like urine also. The«deluxe continental breakfast» wasn’t very deluxe either. It was nice to be near the water, but I feel the hotel could use some fine tuning and touches that I would consider to be common sense. I know its hard to stay on top of that many rooms, but when a guest is paying close to their mortgage payment to stay somewhere, I was expecting a little nicer room and upkeep. The staff was friendly however.

Sugar Beach was a great experience. Hotel was clean, staff was great and helpful. The beach access was very convenient with our kids who are 5 and 2 years old. Continental breakfast was very satisfactory. Our family decided to spend our 4th of July weekend here and have not regreted it. One last thing, you dont necessarily have to drive all the way into town and battle traffic for fireworks. We sat on the beach behind the hotel and watched fireworks that were going off ALLAROUND the bay. The kids loved it!!!

My party was assigned the room on third floor in separate building. It was good. The breakfast was also good. They offer Bagels, Muffins, Milk, Flakes, Waffles, Fruits, and Juices. They also offer TV to enjoy. The only problem was sound on adjacent room is not really isolated. I can hear some of chats on other rooms.

Was really disappointed for the price that I paid. The room was nice, but not almost 300 nice. Had the honeymoon suite and there was no view of the water. I did not think about asking seems it was the honeymoon suite. To top that, the room two doors down was just sprayed with drywall mud and the door was removed for ventilation, so you can only imagine how thick the smell was through the hall and in our room. The hallway was just painted so we had those fumes also. If you are going to stay open during construction, don’t rent the floor that is being worked on. It was a Sunday night, and only about 20 cars in the parking lot, there was room for us elsewhere. Once you say something, they became the victim. Would not recommend this location. We spend a great amount of time in hotels locally just because we are out, but we will never go back to this one.

Nice family resort hotel with a huge beach and an abundance of chaise lounge chairs with many outdoor and watercraft sports available at an extra charge. Grand Traverse Bay/Lake Michigan water is very clear so great for playing or swimming in. This is definitely a family orientated and a very active hotel in prime season so if you’re looking for a quiet place this may not be your first choice. Seemed like there were many family reunions and friend reunions going on. Lots of partying into the wee hours on the 1st floor balcony/patio rooms. We had a balcony suite room. Bed was awesome w/many thick small pillows. Our room had a fridge, microwave and coffee machine w/horribly cheap quality coffee and all the bathroom amenities at least the first night. A few problems though. Our room card didn’t work in any of the many outside doors after 11pm. So we had to always walk around to the main entrance. We had a bizarre maid who put all our dirty towels which we piled on the floor back up on the shower area, towel racks or crammed them under the sink. Fire the crazy maid please! Our room was sloppily cleaned the first night. The maid did not restock our bathroom toiletries or wipe down the tables in our room. Didn’t even cover the bed with fitted sheet. We had to call the front desk on many issues. They don’t have fresh or even canned cherries for your waffles anymore. Duh — this is the Cherry Capitol of our Country. The coffee was horribly bitter even in the free breakfast area. I’d probably would go back but in the fall if I got a good price when not so busy. Overall A-OK for a summer visit.
