I hate to give them a bad review, because I really wanted to like this place. The proprietor is a guy who looks like he enjoys fried chicken, and I like the atmosphere of the tiny waiting area(definitely take out only). Chicken Stop is within walking distance of my house, so I’ve given them a few tries, but each time, the fried chicken has not been all that good. The chicken itself is good quality, but the breading is soggy, and it seems like the chicken has been marinating in the oil rather than frying in it. After our second visit, my wife said she wouldn’t go back, so I waited for her to go out of town before taking another walk over there. Still not worth eating. I want to support local businesses, but I guess it won’t be this one.

I have been driving by Chicken Stop for the past few years and have always wondered if it was any good. Finally I decided to stop by for a menu to check on food options and prices. I was pleasantly surprised. Chicken Stop features fried Amish chicken, ribs and«seafood» — aka fried smelt, cod, perch, etc.(more like lake food, really) and a plethora of deep fried delicious and inexpensive appetizers. The menu is great because it offers tons of options for sizes, so whether you’re feeding one or a group, you’re able to snag the perfect amount of grub. We decided to invite our friends/neighbors over to try a bunch of items off the menu. For $ 40, we got a meal of ribs, chicken, rolls, fried mushrooms(instead of coleslaw), cheddar munchers(deep friend cheese balls), macaroni and cheese bites and fries. No, not healthy, but pretty yummy for a good price. The first ribs I had were delicious and fell right off the bone. The second round was a bit tougher, but not too bad for the price. The chicken was good — KFC style, but not as salty and tasted fresher(we requested white meat). You can’t really go wrong with deep fried anything, so those items were yummy as well. Our fave was the macaroni and cheese bites($ 2.79 for 6). The only item we weren’t impressed with were the steak fries. Soggy and not nearly enough seasoning. The place is carryout or delivery only. Having a new baby, this is ideal for us. We’ll definitely be picking up Chicken Stop on occasion for our atery-clogging cravings or some fairly tasty, yet reasonably priced ribs. Not the most amazing food ever, but you get a ton of food for the money and feel good supporting a small, local business.
