Really nice place. The people are great, atmosphere great, and food great! I’ll be back!

They have white rice, yellow rice, arroz con grandules sometimes and pork or roast chicken. I went twice just to be fair. It was horrible. The chicken was dry, the seasonings were off. The rice was really weird tasting. I just didn’t like it. I REALLY wanted to like it since I am lazy and love to take out Latin food. I am sad I had to throw away the last two plates I ordered(My son hated it too). Drive to Albany for Latin food, it’s worth the drive.

They get an extra star based on my amusement at their ironic name. Maybe the owner has a good sense of humor? Just…don’t do it.

Every town in the USA used to have a place like Happy Lunch. Happy Lunch opened in the late 1960’s and has successfully resisted every dining fad. It’s a place which isn’t meant to be fancy, but satisfying. You just walk in, sit yourself down, and your hardest decision is whether to have your eggs scrambled or over easy. On Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, you can choose the«Spanish food» on Happy Lunch’s menu. Since this is the northeastern U.S. you don’t expect paella, Serrano ham, or dulce de membrillo, but rather the dishes of the owners’ native Puerto Rico. Nights, you can visit Happy’s Bar next door, shoot some pool, drink some beer. Happy Lunch offers exactly that: a happy lunch, in unpretentious, comfortable surroundings. It’s the kind of place the designers of chain restaurants struggle to mimic, and never get right.
