I love dive bars but this place is not much to look/drink/eat at. Drinks are pretty boring but cheap, food is good for a quick bite but nothing to rave over, and service needs a lot of improvement. TGP has gone downhill. Used to be a big destination, and now it’s sort of a last resort to go have a few beers on a weekend night. My friends and I would much rather make the trip out to Rochester/Birmingham/RO/Detroit, not much fun is had here

I come here with my all friends all the time. It’s a great place to hang out. The staff here are really friendly. The food is good. The environment is hair great. If you are looking for a place to hang out and just eat good food around great people then I suggest you try this place out.

Once again I reiterate, used to be soo much better. Good help must be hard to find. Waitress took a very long time to take order. Food was decent, split a patty melt, along with some mini corn dogs. After finishing lunch no bill was in sight. Got up and found waitress in order to pay the bill.

Horrible!!! The 2 of us ordered an antipasto salad for 2 – 4 people and received a bowl of 80% old iceberg lettuce, sprinkled mozzarella cheese, 1 slice of tomato, black olives, yellow sliced pepper and a few squares of meat. The dressing of oil and vinegar wouldn’t mix together??? We ordered a deluxe pizza with 5 toppings. The pizza was topped with something other than mozzarella cheese, maybe a processed cheese food??? To top that off the don’t have spatulas or pizza stands to serve the pizza. Waitress acknowledged that everyone always asked for them but they don’t have any. Years ago it was a great place to get pizza.

The pizza here used to be sooooo good. Now it’s just not. Been a longtime patron due to living nearby. Was always the place to go for great pizza & antipasto salad. Last few times I’ve been, it’s just been sad. Not going to bother any more.

A true neighborhood staple, the Gathering Place has been around for decades and looks like they have quite an impressive local following. I mean, you gotta love a place with a marquis that says: «A and B Final Report Cards Get Free Pizza!» This is a small, cozy corner restaurant almost straight out of a movie! The walls are covered with years of historical photographs and awards. Trophies sit proudly in shelves. The dining room is open and friendly with the bar lining the left wall, shuffleboard and pinball games lining the others. You can almost imagine the regulars calling each other’s names when they walk through the the door! The food is authentic and tasty. We tried the deep dish pizza… Out if this world! It had a crunchy thick crust and was loaded with cheese and toppings.(The small size can easily be shared.) The wings were absolutely fantastic: crispy with an amazing spicy sauce. The quesadilla was huge and delicious, cheese oozing from the sides. We tried the French dip and didn’t care for it, actually. Too much bun, not enough beef, and the broth was weak. But they are apparently known for their burgers, so we’ll try that next time. The Gathering offers a full bar with different specials during the week. We had margaritas and they were pretty good. The servers were friendly and delightfully honest. You won’t find any polished up-selling here. They tell it like it is. Overall, a really unique neighborhood spot with delicious food and good prices!

I was there one time, I had a very bad service The place smells bad the burgers were terrible The place is too small, it’s like you at a basement or more like a country store and also it didn’t look clean I don’t recommend it

Very nice family are, great food. Our waitress was in probably the worst that we’ve ever had at a restaurant !!! We complained to the management after requesting her to come to the table 2 times she finally showed up and told us we had a bad attitude. This is absolutely the worst service we’ve ever received anywhere. I would like to get ahold of the owner to tell him what a lousy staff he has working there. I would recommend never going to this establishment the management is a joke. Long time Troy resident that’s going to spread the word not to spend money at this establishment. There’s plenty of other good places willing to give good service for good food.

Decent food good drink prices. Unfortunately full of average racist republicans. I think the drink prices are great. Really affordable for even what I usually pay nearly 1.5 times as much. Not sure I’d say a friendly staff. Once my white friend left didn’t get any service. Literally 4 white men next to my bar stool complaining about liberals and the coloreds was how I spent my lunch. Maybe a problem because of the area. I guess I should be happy they weren’t closet racist. Ah well. Got a philly cheese steak. Average at best. She recommended I get au jus on the side. That kind of made it better. Anyways won’t return. Gathering place for regulars that’s all.

My husband and I were there on 10÷22÷14 at about 3:15pm. There were just a handful of people in the bar including the 3 gentlemen sitting at the bar next to us. The bartender was unfriendly and seemed«put out» by us. No customers and crappy service by this bartender makes sense. I’ve heard she is the daughter of the owner and other employees are also related to the owner. I also have heard that this bar is just a «hobby» for the owner as he has more important business ventures. The owner needs to get a clue and realize that his daughter apparently has a sense of «entitlement» there and can treat customers any way she likes without any consequences. We will never go back, for real this time, as we’ve had similar experiences there in the past. The owner should restaff this bar with non-family employees who actually want to work and hire bartenders who have a personality. Otherwise, just consider closing the doors for good.

Just moved to Troy and this place is the closest watering hole to my new place. Went there with a buddy. Nice atmosphere and posted up at the bar. Waitresses were attentive and served us right away. My significant beef with this place is that I ordered a Red Bull and Vodka. I received a fowl tasting beverage that was NOT even close to a Red Bull and Vodka. I asked the waitress if the drink was Red Bull because it tasted like poo and the waitress smiled and said, «no it is a fake, it is Red Baron, no one has ever noticed before.» Then she walked away. Fail. How are you going to serve me a Red Baron and not tell me it is a Red Baron!!! The bill said Red Bull when we paid. Uuuuummmmmmm no.

Went here tonight for the first time, after seeing the Globetrotters at the Palace. I actually live close by but rarely venture north into Troy. I was with three friends and each pair split a cheesy bread, it was very good. I also had an Angry Orchard cider($ 3.50), my friends had some of the beers on tap. Service was a tiny bit slow, but very friendly, and I liked how they were able to put us all on different tabs. Apparently on Saturdays you can bring in ANY coupon from ANY restaurant and get 50% off their pizza, which is an awesome deal. They do other weekly specials too. The cheesy bread was delicious so I’ll be back for pizza at some point.

I went for dinner on Saturday night with three others, walked in and it’s a seat yourself type of place. They have half off pizza on Saturday night with a coupon, however it has to be a printed out coupon. We tried to use a digital coupon on my smart phone, but the waitress said they don’t accept that. Anyways, our large bacon and onion pie had about three quarters of the toppings on only one quarter of the pizza. It wasn’t that great, needless to say. Antipasto salad is also just ok. I know this place has been here forever, as I grew up less than a mile away. For my money, I’d rather go to The Alibi or Loui’s any day. It’s a cool atmosphere with a homey feel, but the food leaves something to be desired.

Meh, this place just didn’t do it for me. Sure, they have lots of specials on pizza, salad, and beers. But it’s not the best pizza, the salad is full of crappy iceberg lettuce, and the beer is cheap macrobrew. I have a real problem with a place that doesn’t offer any beers from Michigan, not even in bottle. That screams business stuck in the old days. Today’s consumer wants more choices than Bud Light, Labatt’s, and Michelob. I’ll take my business elsewhere to a place that has better pizza and supports the state’s beer industry.

Another one bites the dust The wife and I been coming here for years, we originally went to the other Gathering place on Van Dyke(now the Shelby Pub) we always loved their Pizza, good service, well, today(Saturday) is ½ off pizza day when you bring in a competitors pizza coupon, I didn’t want pizza but the wife did, so I thought she can get her pizza and I would ask for a separate check to use my Entertainment coupon«for Buy and menu item get a menu item«but when we got their the waitress said they wouldn’t do that«why not? I thought«if I came in by my self and someone else I didn’t know came in to get the pizza deal and we sat next to each other then that wouldn’t be a problem, I was very disappointed, so I decided to not eat, my wife ordered her pizza, we waited and when the pizza came it was soaked in sauce, like gross soaked and she said the pizza was cold, the wife decided she didn’t want it and didn’t want to wait for them to make another so we decided to just leave. with the cold over sauce soaked pizza and the«cant use the coupon«debacle, the wife and I are in search for another Pizza place hang out with out the hang ups.

This is definitely a place for families to grab a beer — definitely, a dive bar. They do not have much on tap, but the pizza special is a winner(pizza, salad, and a pitcher). At $ 20, it is more than enough food for 3 people and the pizza is not bad.

I REALLY dig this place. My wife is always afraid of seeing Aholes she went to HS with(Troy Athens) but to no avail. Nice little hole in the wall with some really good pizza. Half off on Saturday, dine in only.(Nice!) Big TV’s for whatever game you want. Good staff, puts up with my crazy-ass kids with no attitude when I know they should be beaten. Not a lot on tap but… there is at least Labatts so I can’t complain. Almost Detroit style pizza but a little bit lighter… we all love it. The only time I deviated from the pie was a chicken«breast» sandwich that was a pressed breaded nasty patty devoid of quality. I was actually pissed that the waitress let me order it in the first place.(as a long time bartender/waiter, you really do need to save people from poor choices once in a while!) Nice jukebox, cheap/great pizza, cold beer, good staff… what else you want?

We’ve been back a time or two for eat-in pizza and takeout sandwiches and we were happy every time – everything was delish and our guests were thrilled. The only meh thing was that their Reuben comes with French dressing instead of Thousand Island which I just can’t wrap my brain around but it was still really, really good.(If you were eating in, I’m sure you could ask for Thousand Island, but since we had takeout, I didn’t think of it.) I’m amazed we didn’t eat here more often, as it’s walking distance from our house and we’ve never had that before… if we could do it over, we’d certainly eat here A LOT more often.
