My husband bought my mother in law a $ 60 gift card a few months ago and she called to schedule an appointment and it turns out they closed indefinitely. I think it was pretty rude to not give the customers a heads up. We are trying to figure out how to get our money back.

I paid for a 10 massage package about 2 weeks ago and went there the other day for appointment I already made and no clue that they were going to close indefinitely. I arrived for my appointment and the place was closed with a simple sign that says closed indefinitely. Place completely cleaned out and the phone number is disconnected… Bad business and bad practices for customer… Still trying to get my $ 700 back from the business… Disputing with credit card company!

Previous review: «I have frequented Awakenings for several years on a regular basis to receive a massage. Their therapists are very good. You may have to try more than one to find the right one, but when you do you will be a loyal customer. Unfortunately there is a turnover from time to time and this is difficult to cope with. Their prices are decent and you are in a private room, darkened, with relaxing music in the background. Very nice people run this business.» UPDATE: Just tried to book an appointment. Phone disconnected and website is not up. Very concerned about previous reviewer who said he bought a 10 package deal and when he went in to book an appt the place was cleaned out. If they are not coming back, something should be said to us. Too bad. But, this is indicative of the Obama economy.

I have an demanding job that I’m on my feet all day and using my arms alot. I also lift weights and work out 5 days a week in the gym. All that makes for a lot of stiffness and pain. I also have an overuse injury in my shoulder. After receiving a less than satisfactory massage at a different parlor I turned to Unilocal.I found Awakenings. They are less than a minute from my house and the reviews were good. I called during the week and was greeted by a guy who has a fabulous phone voice(I can’t for the life of me remember his name) and after voicing my issues and concerns was assured a therapist named Rachel would be a good fit. He was right. The first appointment she asked me alot of questions to help pinpoint where my pain was. She listened to me when I told her what I did for a living, my gym habits, and also my fears as I had been badly hurt by the other massage parlor. She put me at ease. Through the whole massage I felt 100% comfortable. Now I’ve been seeing her for almost 6 months and the difference is amazing. My shoulder doesn’t lock up anymore, allowing me to work pain free! And every appointment she always asks how my shoulder is and if anything new hurts and always adjusts the massage to accommodate my day after a hard weight lifting session soreness. I would recommend this massage parlor and Rachel to anyone in stiff pain, or just needing a relaxing massage.

Easy to get in on short notice. Every time I’ve gone I’ve received great massages. Prices are very reasonable.

We flew into Tucson the night before after an almost 24 hour trip. We were in pain. My sister recommended this place and I called to see if they could accommodate us short term, which they could. The place itself is fairly nondescript in a mall like surrounding, but it’s quiet and the massage room is serene. We set up both massages after each other and Gary, the owner/manager(?) did an excellent job working out whatever kinks we had. The usual suspects, shoulders, lower back, you know the pain. Using soothing music and lighting, aromatherapy to help my sinuses not clog up while on my stomach, a strong touch and really sensing what the body/muscles needed. Next time we’re in town and I need a massage, I’ll definitively be back!

Do not let the bare bones of this place fool you. In 8 years I have NEVER once had a bad massage. I am talking about calling up and just getting an appointment without requesting someone specific. It is definately a rotating staff because I think people come here to build their clientele and move on but it is consistently top notch. I did get one bad therapist once and I pointed out that she maybe needed a little more training and the owner made it up to my by personally giving me my massage the next time for free. It is just an excellent massage therapy establishment with a great business ethic!

While the lobby isn’t elaborately decorated, it is very clean and businesslike, and the massage rooms themselves are quiet and filled with soothing music. This was the first massage studio I’d ever used regularly, and now that I’ve moved out of state, I’ve spent months searching for a studio half as good as Awakenings! Where to start?! — outstanding therapists(more later) — prices are very good($ 50/hr on Tuesdays!) — long hours(till 8pm!) for working people — far NW side(Cortaro and Thornydale) location is great(in a shopping center next to a chiropractor) — genuinely friendly office staff familiar with each therapist’s skills and techniques My wife and I visited once or twice a month for several years, and there are almost always appointments to suit your schedule. We tried many of their therapists, but a few stood out: — Geary has decades of experience and it shows. After one massage with him, my wife refused to see anyone else, and I saw him many times as well. He is just supremely talented at unlocking the chain of muscles that lead to a knot or sore spot. — Jesvon is one of the most relaxing therapists there. His calm demeanor carries over into his hands and leaves you feeling completely de-stressed. — Kimmie is who I would see when I needed a deeper, more targetted massage(after a half-marathon, for instance). She has a knack for getting in just deep enough to get the muscle to free up without causing pain. All their therapists are skilled in various modalities and techniques, so if you have a specific style(hot-stone shiatsu, for instance) just ask!

I recently went here with my two sisters and my mother. We were all trying to get in at the same time or at lease close and they went out of their way to accommodate us. My mother and one sister were both extremely pleased with their massages and therapists. The other sister and I were liked ours. All of us would go again. The one drawback was that it is a very basic massage studio and I could hear some talking in the other rooms. Not the conversations, just a bit of noise. And both my sister and I could have used a small space heater in our rooms. But maybe that’s our fault for not asking.
