Book Stop is a pretty ok book store, with some good and some flaws. They have tons of inventory(all used books), including a lot of out-of-print books and vintage books. The entire store is packed full of books of all sorts and genres! You can be lost in here for hours just looking at the old books. Many of these books are in pretty rough shape, though. I love used books, but some of the books in Book Stop are teetering on the edge of trash to me. And the prices are a bit high for books in this condition. That is, if you can tell what the price is. I found that probably less than ¼ of the books have been labelled with pricing. Very strange. I don’t have the patience to ask what every book costs. And since I noticed some high prices for books in really poor condition, I didn’t even want to ask. This is a shame to me. I would have easily purchased many books on both of my visits to this store, but instead I walked out with a very meager purchase. It is a very sleepy bookstore. Not many people are in and out of it, and the person at the register never even bothers to look up to acknowledge you when you walk in. I’m sure you’d get help if you ask for it, but they don’t go out of their way to interact. They have some cool sections. There’s an entire section about the railroad. They even have old brochures and things like that. Pretty cool! I feel like a traitor when I don’t love a little local book shop, but Book Stop isn’t my first choice in town at all. Will I go back? Sure, when I’m just walking around 4th. But I probably won’t make a trip to 4th just to go to Book Stop.

This is my absolute place to get lost in. I usually spend hours in here. I love the smell of books and reading old style books, out of print books, rare, hard to find ones! This book store has it all. I haven’t been inside for a long while, but when I do go back the staff remembers who I am and are super nice and friendly. I love this place.

Without a doubt the coolest little used bookstore I’ve been to. The lady at the counter was extremely helpful and willing to help me search for books till I found one I really wanted. They didn’t have the book I had called about but the service made up for the missing novel.

In the 20 years that I have been going to Book Stop, there has never been a time when I have not found the book I was seeking. I moved out of state for a few years, and when I returned I was saddened to see that Book Stop was no longer on Campbell/Grant, yet I was pleased to see that it had relocated to 4th Ave. If you are looking for that elusive book that seems only available online, check here first. It will save you some money for shipping, and you won’t have to wait.

This is one of my very favorite places to get lost in. There are nooks and crannies with books that surprise, delight, raise eyebrows. Books that just smell good. Books in every genre and of every subject. And when you’re looking for a book on a specific topic, you will almost certainly find a good match here. My favorite part, though, are the drawers. I love digging through for art prints, sheet music, and old this and thats. I recently found a preacher’s journal from the 1930s. Score!

I love this place! There are so many old and rare finds here, it is truly one of the gems of Tucson. The staff is friendly and not overbearing. There’s water and some times edible goodies at the front. Anything bad? The concrete floor makes me feel like I’ve entered Allergy Land, but so what? It’s the risk you take for finding old Soviet literature.

This little gem sits near the Shanty on 4th Avenue. It’s often open late, which is appealing when I am looking for a restroom. But it also appeals because I love books. And there is a huge amount of them here, and nothing but books. Book Stop used to be on Campbell in a funky location, and also carried record albums I believe. This location is smaller in size but is hardcore for used books. The sections of history, archaeology, and Arizona are amazing packed and well maintained. Prices reasonable. Lots of fiction, sci-fi, children’s, military/war, and collectible and rare books await. It is easy to browse and get lost in the books here. It’s a comfy environment, the people who work here are not pushy. You can trade in books and receive credit(at least, I did that a year or two ago. not sure what the policy is now). If you like books and you’re on 4th, pop by. They keep late hours on Friday and Saturday so it’s a change of pace when you are bar hopping down 4th. Sober up with a good book. Or drink to a great one!

One of my very favorite things is the smell of books, especially old books. This place has that amazing smell. I’ve never gone in there looking for anything specific so I can’t say how it is in that aspect, but if you book shop like me-randomly walking around and buying things that strike your fancy-then this is a great place for you. The prices are more than reasonable, at least ½ off the original prices. This is a book store for book lovers. It’s one of those stores that just feels good!

There was a bookstore in Saratoga, NY that was housed in an old bank. It was wonderful wandering around, even entering the old vault to search through the shelves of old, new and used books. While this store isn’t housed in an old bank, it still gave me the same feel. This is a real bookstore, for books that have outlived their previous homes and are now looking for a new nightstand. Now I’ll admit, you might not find the specific book you’re looking for, but you will find something. And wandering the rows and rows you’ll have a good time searching for that find. There’s just something about wandering through a true, small-time bookstore like this that simply feels right. It’s almost like you can sense the collective history of all those different tomes. Hardbacks have prices listed on the first printed page. Paperbacks are typically 50% off the listed selling price. I hope this is something that doesn’t get left by the wayside in this new evermore digital age. Next time you find yourself on 4th Ave. head down towards the underpass and check out an old-school bookstore. You know you still like flipping pages more than staring at a screen when you read. Do your part to keep places like this alive!

Do you remember being in middle school and having organized library time in which the school librarian spoke to your class about the importance of checking out books? And do you remember how agonizing that experience was, and how it seemed like time stood still? Common, that wasn’t just my school, was it? The Book Stop is anything but agonizing. And while time DOES seem to stand still, that’s because the Book Stop is frozen in time-in a way. The shelves are packed with old classics and the cash register is a historic treasure that would make Antiques Roadshow fans giddy. There is something for everyone, and even if you aren’t looking for anything specific, it’s a great place to browse. The atmosphere and the layout are super comfortable because it’s organized like most used book stores in town. The difference here, however, is the feeling that you’re part of something special. I mean at the end of the day, I’m Unilocaling about old books, but it feels like so much more. Maybe it’s the owners and the passion they have for literature. Maybe it’s the location, the gateway to 4th Avenue. Or maybe thumbing through classics has the power to transcend! The only downfall? The day I was there I didn’t see too many people. It’s my hope that overtime the new location on 4th Avenue will draw as much attention as the old spot. I hope fellow Unilocalers will pay the Book Stop a visit as an homage to middle school organized library time.

I walked in with low aspirations, walked out with Sartre, Marquez, Eggers, Camus, Nabokov, Steinbeck and Salinger, almost dropped far too much on a signed first printing Vonnegut, found a fairly beautiful little book about a mule printed far, far too long ago(That book is the best smelling book I’ve ever known, even beat out my 50’s Voltaire compilation). I mean, the place is great to just peruse, you’ll find something. I actually even came here while on a date to waste some time, and we sat on the floor reading vintage erotic stories about«love business,» perused the film and music biographies, sat with a photo book for awhile. It was oddly romantic. I can’t condone sitting on the floor for hours here, but it’s definitely a great place to find used books, and they seem to take care and time in grabbing what’s good.

Book Stop Used Books is an old time, book lovers haven, most of which have been displaced by the bland corporate stores. The space is taken up by an immense selection of used books, in all subjects. I love the ambiance, worn out & unusual, just perfect for wandering & reading. A great experience any time. They are coming off from a move from 2504 N Campbell Ave after the greedy landlord up’ed the rent & put in «new windows» to attract high end yuppie tenants. Most of the«mom & pops» were forced to abandoned or just thrown out.
