Got roped in to going here once with a friend, but was clever enough to wear a crappy wrinkled t-shirt without a thread of Ed Hardy in it which successfully kept the doorman from letting me in. Mission accomplished. I even gave an extra star just for the doorman doing the good job that I was banking on.

Can I get a G-H-E-T-T-O? Okay, that might have been harsh. And DV8 Nightclub DOES offer one of the only 18 and up dance nights in town, and I remember a not so distant time when I wasn’t resentful of teenie boppers wanting to go shake it on the D-Floor because I was one of them. Still, DV8 is a questionable venue, the kind at which you’re positive a bar fight will occur, or a shooting. The club alternates between hip hop and dance nights and metal shows. A strange mix, indeed, but those two genres are a good summation of the typical Tucsonan. I’ve been to DV8 for one hip-hop night and one metal show. The hip-hop night seemed to cater to under-agers, which made it a little lame for me. We didn’t stay long, but it was walking distance to my old apartment so we tried it out. The metal show I went to was surprisingly cheap, around $ 5(as locals shows should be, in my opinion). In this way it is a better venue than the Rock, where I’ve spent two or three times as much to support a friend’s band. That’s where the superiority ends, though. The sound is absolutely awful. Feedback city. And there’s an awkward pole in the middle of the stage(a support beam, I’m guessing) which, while an excellent stripper pole for 18 year old girls to writhe on, is a horrible distraction for performing bands. In summation: Go to DV8 to support your friend’s band or if you’re under 21. Just wear ear plugs and a kevlar vest.
