Ate here with my sister while we were driving thru Tucson on I-10. We didn’t want fast food, but still wanted something fairly close to the freeway… This place for the bill. We started with some pork dumplings which were very good. Then we both ordered lunch specials, which came with rice or lo mein, egg flower soup, egg rolls, and your choice of protein. I got the sweet and sour chicken and my sister got the Mongolian beef. Both were pretty tasty and lots of food for super cheap! I’ve had better Chinese food, but this place was pretty legit. If I lived in Tucson, I imagine I would be here for takeout a few times a month.

I tried Mei Mei today after hearing good things about their lunch special here. So, maybe would be 4 ½ but I am gonna say 5 for Tucson. My fault I was ordering for two people to go. So many choices, new place, no brown rice option. The steamed white rice that came with the shrimp lo mein was not great, for that person, my bad call, and only 3 shrimp. A lot of food, and what do you expect for a shrimp lunch at that price? The egg rolls were crisp and light. Almost so good I didn’t miss a sweet and sour dipping sauce. Duck sauce? Maybe available if you ask for it. i asked and they did give me nice chopsticks. The other order was beef and broccoli with lo mein, and also 2 egg rolls. The person who got the shrimp wanted it. It was piping hot even after I transported it in a car for 10 minutes, delicious, large chunks of tender beef, large perfectly cooked broccoli flourettes and the egg rolls were delicious and not heavy. Even someone who normally does not like egg rolls, ate one and liked it. The Lo Mein was a nice thick noodle, not spaghetti. Could have more cabbage and bean sprouts, but tasty. Delicious sauce with the beef and broccollli. I’m a big guy and it filled me up. Got a menu, will be calling in for pickup in the future. So happy I found a place near downtown this good! Thank you Mei Mei! — Tribalinks

I think this is some of the best Chinese food I have had. Loved the hot and sour soup. The chicken fried rice had lots of chicken. The pot stickers were very good. General tso chicken was perfect spice and not over breaded.

First Impression: Sex Power! Lol if it wasnt for other Unilocal reviews i would have turned around the minute i saw this. I stayed and was pleasantly surprised by food portions. Very filling. I had the Kung Pao Chicken lunch special. The fried rice and kung pao chicken were bland, but never obtrusive. I will come back to try another dish, hoping to find something more flavorful. P. S. There is a funky smell when you first walk in. It might be the runoff water from the laundromat next door.

My go to spot for Chinese food on the west side. The place never seen busy and there’s usually not a lot of people dining in but the majority are picking the food to go. They have the best lo mein in town. This service is there is always very kind and quick and seems like the place keeping the premises very clean. Try the chicken lo mein ypu won’t be disappointed.

Worst Chinese food EVER! Too much $$$ for such a small portion. Pot stickers were burnt. Orange Chicken was very dry and chicken was hard. However the wonton soup was pretty good. Won’t ever waste my time or money to go there again.

Could be 2.5 stars. Came here for lunch because I didn’t want to go to a fast food place. Read the reviews and thought I’d give it a try. Update: It is no longer a $ 5.99 lunch special, it is a $ 6.59 lunch special. And to answer Mark’s review, yes, their egg rolls are always soft and not so crunchy. I ate mine fresh and the only crunchy parts were the ends. They are veggie egg rolls, by the way. I ordered the kung pao chicken. It comes with diced carrots, water chestnuts, peanuts, bamboo shoots, and celery. The celery right away was a give away. To me, celery in Chinese food is a cheap filler choice by the chef and the flavor of celery does not complement any Chinese flavor at all. I do not like it when bamboo shoots are diced instead of sliced. And although it wasn’t a tiny amount, the amount of water chestnuts and peanuts was not generous and a bit on the scant side. The sauce was soupy, not saucy. The dish was literally swimming in soup. Kung pao chicken is also supposed to be spicy. It was a little bit spicy. It came with the aforementioned egg rolls, and I opted for the lo mein instead of the fried rice. The lo mein hardly had any cabbage in it. The flavor was OK, nothing exciting, though. My recommendation is if you want to try this place, go with one of the apparently successful entrees that are mentioned in the other reviews, just don’t choose the kung pao chicken. Service was very quick. I was the only one there at opening and I waited only five minutes. The chef’s wife was very friendly. What astounds me is that she told me that Mei Mei has been there for 22 years. I thought that for a business to be there for that long they must have good food. Well, I was wishing that I had gone to Wendy’s or What-A-Burger instead.

I picked up food from here last night for girls night in. This place is a hidden gem. The inside interior and the outside I’m not the most attractive ones in a little bit outdated but I think it’s part of the charm when you walk into a place like that you know it’s close to authentic as it might get here in Tucson. We had multiple dishes and all of them are great I especially remember the lo mein chicken and noodles are just delicious. If you are in the area or looking for some comfort food during movie night this is the perfect spot.

Love love love this place! They have some really awesome dishes here: chicken lo mein, moo goo gai pan, beef and broccoli to name a few! Everything comes in portions that are perfect for a party of 3 or even 4. I wish they would deliver but still calling a head and picking it up if you are in the area is not a big deal. It’s better to mention that they will go easy on the oil cause sometimes they use too much of it but it’s always comes out delish no matter what you getting here. Worth a visit!

I hadn’t planned on getting carryout but since I had to make a stop at Safeway, opted to get some lunch to go. The restaurant is small, and old looking inside. A fresh coat of paint and some wax on the floor could do wonders. Also a machine in the entrance where you put your thumb to discover your«sex power» kind of turned me off. But I was already there, so went ahead and ordered. They have lunch specials for about $ 7.00, they include soup, eggroll, entrée, and steamed or fried rice. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken, and she offered to give an extra eggroll instead of the soup. I prefer fried rice and there was no extra charge(some places do charge extra for fried rice). Anyway, my wait was about 10 minutes which I didn’t think was too bad. Usually Sweet and Sour chicken comes with green peppers, onions and some pineapple chunks. There was no green peppers, onion or pineapple. Not sure if they just forgot or if this is how it normally comes. Anyway, there were about 8 – 10 medium size pieces of chicken. The flavor was a little different than what I usually experience but in a good way. I really enjoyed the sweet and sour sauce which did not overwhelm the chicken. The fried rice was equally as flavorful. She did give me 2 eggrolls which were really springrolls(I like these better anyway) and they were good too. I wish they had been crunchier, not sure if they got soft because they were sitting in the rice or if they always come that way. Overall, I was happy with the entire meal and I will plan on going back there for lunch really soon!

First off, $ 5 lunch specials are a steal, made cook to order. I’ve only been here at lunch so my review could be biased but what cracks me up is the place looks like a mafia hideout from the grand theft auto video games. Dimly lit, looks like nobody eats here, etc… lol. Jokes aside the service is quick, perfect ghetto chinese takeout! words of advice: get lo mein over their fried rice, and get mongolian beef or orange chicken for the lunch special and if you order take out they NEVER give you a fork without you having to ask, your welcome

Won’t be back. If it wasn’t bad enough that they wanted to charge an extra $ 1 to substitute carrots for bell peppers in a dish, I ended up getting the WORST stomach ache from the food. **sigh**

Sadly I have come to realize that one of my most favorite restaurants isn’t as good as I first thought. However, it is still one of my favorites because of the location but over the months I’ve begun to realize that this restaurant lacked a variety of food, specifically tofu. 1 tofu dish? Really? While the other meaty entrees are still okay, they really aren’t that great. I came in for lunch for the first time because I always take my food take out and the service and atmosphere did not ruin my dining experience. The only reason why I decided to bump Mei Mei down to a 3 star is that I have simply realized there is better Chinese food in Tucson. I ordered the lunch special which is a great deal at $ 4.99, you get a meat entrée, rice, soup or an egg roll. I ordered the BBQ Pork and some szechuan Black Bean Tofu. The BBQ Pork was nothing like the picture, it contained the really fatty pieces and was dry. However, it was kind of good but just not what I was expecting. The tofu was extra saucy and starchy. It was okay but again, not what I expecting. However, service was great, the lady had some kick to her step and pricing was decent as well. I won’t stop going to Mei Mei’s but I will stop praising it.
