Wow! I think I just found my new gem of a coffee shop in the Irvine area! This place is so cute! I spent my Friday working at this spot from 8:30AM to 5PM! Literally got to see the people come and go, staff members keeping the place clean and how happy customers were getting their order. It was clean and spacious and the staff were amazing! As usual, I am a iced vanilla latte kind of girl, and that’s just what I got YUMMY!!! It was not watered down, no sugar syrup needed, you could definitely taste the vanilla crisp flavor with the powerful aroma of espresso. My iced drink was normal price a little less than $ 5, and the ice and liquid ratio was on fleek. They have wifi that was strong all day, super important and have many different areas to sit. They have the corner closest to the entrance, and a bar sitting area on the other side of the espresso machine. They have outlets there! Will come back! Fur sure!

Kind of a hipster coffee place, but it pretty much is the best coffee I have ever had. The people working there were also super informative and gave out tons of recommendations on the best coffee drinks. I have been to other places that have the same vibe, but they tend to be overpriced and not Amazing. Not this spot, worth every penny.

love this place! lots of places to walk around after grabbing a cup of coffee or a place to come and talk with friends. parking can be hard to find since the district is pretty busy on the weekends but at least it’s free! depending on which side you enter from, you’ll have to look for it. try to enter from the side that’s across from the whole foods and Bank of America atm. it’s right across the street and the first store you’ll see when you enter and right across the Kroft. first you order and you pay when you pick up your drinks. the menu is pretty straight forward and they have a board of a list of the beans that they’re currently using for their drinks. there’s a bar area that seats about 10 people and 3 tables across the pick up area so not too much seating, but just depends on what time you come. today when I visited half or the seating was available but the last time I came here, there was no seating at all. love the environment and employees are super nice too!

I’m convinced I went to another Portola after reading some of the reviews, but I checked my receipt and this is the place. Coffee was very average and I didn’t even finish my small. Great location and ambiance though. I’ll give it another try and hoping it was just a bad batch that I got.

Best coffee in Irvine!!! It reminds me so much of the indie coffee shops in New York and their flat brown is probably the best thing I’ve ever drank. This place is also located in the Union Market so it’s hipster, young, and fun all in one. They also use Strauss creamery milk and their own roasted coffee beans! They offer a fair selection of vegan and gluten-free pastries. Go and you will not be disappointed.

I am a true coffee supporter and fan. It’s easy to distinguish the good from the bad. What’s harder is being able to recognize the contenders from the pretenders of high quality roasted coffee. Portola is top of my list. Been coming for 1 – 2 years and hit their multiple locations. It’s won awards for a reason. So, if you want quality vs. quantity, come to Portola. No offense to Starbucks, but that’s like the AM/PM of daily coffee fuel needs which will get you from point A to point B. Portola is worth the trip and because of the quality, it’s worth the price.

This place is definitely different from all other coffee spots! I got an iced vanilla latte and was mind blown by the quality, taste, flavor. If you have time or are in the area I highly recommend you try it out. 5 starts from me!

Big bro Phil Y loves Union Market and I LOVEPORTOLA! Located inside Union Market, Portola makes it really easy for you to order what you want, grab what you need and pay for your drink, or in this case, big bro pays for my drink. I’ve never had a bad experience here. The baristas are super friendly, quick and efficient with the small space given to them. I always order their iced vanilla latte while I wait for my food to come out while big bro is sitting on a chair glyphing as usual. I’ll be back again and again… xoxo

One of my favorite places to study and drink a cup of coffee in the Irvine area. The bar area has outlets everywhere and Portola does have wifi, so it’s a great place to study. They have a limited menu but the drinks are all pretty solid. Coffee tastes smooth and rich! I’ve tried their matcha latte and I loved how I could really taste the bitterness of the green tea. Since it is located in the Union Market, it can get pretty loud as there are other stores that are all«open»(like they aren’t enclosed by walls). But since Union Market has noice hipster-vibes, it makes the overall experience cozy and cool. Oh and on busy times, wifi is annoyingly slow.

This place is a gem! SERVICE: The baristas are always SO friendly & more than willing to help you with picking a drink. DRINKS: I opted for the cappuccino & was not disappointed. My friend did get the iced matcha latte which I’ll have to try the next time I’m here. WIFI: Great. They give you the password if you ask for it at the register. SPACE: Good. The bar seating has convenient outlets for all of you worried about running out of battery. There’s also a lot more tables in the building where you could get work done. This place is slowly getting more popular though — with the addition of churned creamery & market 2 plate — but be sure to check it out regardless!

I got a mocha, it was really good. I am a fan of the coffee which I would give 4 stars. Location I give 2 stars. I would return for coffee to go anytime, but not a good location to meet someone for coffee. It’s a shame that this is within the Union Market area, which is a warehouse type setting with many places inside-food/stores– open concept. There’s not many places to sit and it doesn’t have that cozy coffee shop feel. I think it would be awesome if it was in it’s own building. I have not been to their other locations– I will have to go and try out one of their other spots. The espresso drinks are offered in one size, on the expensive side($ 5.00 for a mocha) but excellent quality. The staff were working hard to keep the long line moving.

3.5 stars for this location of portola that’s inside Union Market at the district! They have a few baked goods but nothing that jumped out at me —iced soy matcha latte: good flavor but a bit watered down, I was hoping for a stronger matcha flavor They have a few indoor tables and counter seating but all of the seats were taken so I snagged a spot at the outdoor picnic tables

They are the best of the best. I have loved them since their opening in Soco so I’m glad to see how much they’ve expanded. According to my coworker… who is a coffee connoisseur, Portola is very selective with their coffee means and source them really well. With them, rest assure that you’re getting top notch quality. This particular Portola is located inside Union Market(which is the Tustin version of Anaheim Packing District… same vibe and same owners). This place has some seating, but not many. It’s located right next to The Kroft so maybe you can pick up a sandwich with your coffee and sit there instead. I didn’t order any coffee on my most recent visit, but picked up a small bag of coffee beans for my dad’s birthday. They didn’t have a wide selection, maybe The sales associate was very kind and was patient with my questions. I don’t have a grinder at home so she was sweet enough to grind it for me. The 12 oz. bag was $ 18.95 before tax. Overall, I always leave this place with positive thoughts and will never hesitate to recommend to friends who are looking for a little pick me up.

I’ve tried a lot of coffee places around the Irvine/Tustin area, and I have to say that Portola’s is one of the best. It’s located inside the union market, and is a small location. Since it shares its space with other shops and restaurants, it can get a little crowded, but I came on a weekday afternoon, and it wasn’t too bad. There are seats and electrical plugs available around the bar where people can do work while enjoying a nice hot coffee. I ordered a vanilla latte, and I was absolutely blown away by how delicious it was. It was the perfect temperature, not overly sweet or bitter, and served in a beautiful, classic white latte mug. The servers are very friendly and I had my order within 3 – 5 minutes after ordering. I love the atmosphere here. It’s not too quiet, but not too loud that I get distracted from my work. I highly recommend this shop to coffee lovers everywhere!

Their iced green tea and matcha lattes are wonderful. I wasn’t a fan of their chai. It had zero to no foam and when we received them at the counter I thought to myself, «that’s it?». I wish they tasted better than they looked but for some reason Portola just doesn’t do chai. They were on the bitter side and needed a more cinnamon sweet balance instead of extra water. I will say their salted caramel macarons might be the best I ever had. Stick with the coffee and lattes here. It’s a nice open space to have an afternoon pick me up. As far as parking goes, I don’t see myself coming here in the mornings before work. There’s way too limited parking across the street.

I think portola coffee lab is a good asset to the district. After a dinner, it’s nice to be able to stroll somewhere to get a nice cup of coffee or, in my case, a cup of hot chocolate. Mind you, the price for a cup of hot chocolate is a bit steep at about a little over 4 bucks. The«for here» cup itself didn’t look more than 16ozs. The hot chocolate itself was good, not overly sweet, and it tasted like they used whole milk or that vitamin D carton milk. Service was good and my beverage came out quickly. I guess they have to inflate the price cause rent at the district must be insane for a poorly built center. If they lowered the price on their hot chocolate, I’d probably come back. However, considering that I’m not looking for some gourmet hot chocolate, it’s pricey(when there’s not even any espresso in it) and Starbucks(in target) is walking distance too(with their hot chocolate at 3 bucks for 24ozs), I may just have to pass on this place.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a Portola Coffee at Union Market. The service is good, the baristas are friendly, the coffee is strong, the area is clean, there is plenty of seating, and there are an adequate number of outlets. This is an ideal coffee shop! There is also outdoor seating but it was way too hot today to even think about sitting outside. I was catching up with a friend, so I didn’t test the wifi, but a good number of people were working on their computers, so I’m sure that it was fine. Love this place — can’t wait to come back. However, I do need to deduct a star because this location is more limited than the elusive Portola at Costa Mesa.
