I frequent this location because it is close to my office. The lunch time staff is generally friendly, but I’ve never been impressed with their customer service. The food has always been good, but nothing that would drive cross town for. If you’re on the west side of Tyler and want decent BBQ, this is your place. If you really want great BBQ, go to Stanley’s.

The potato salad was pretty good, the beans were ok but nothing to write about. And the meat, oh boy. First of all, they break it down between juicy and lean brisket. Uh, shouldn’t it all be moist? Of course, I opt for the moist. The point end seemed to be well rubbed and with a dark bark. It was somewhat tender but not moist at all! !! And the dark bark was deceiving, very little flavor to it. Seemed to have some alien seasoning in it(all you need is kosher salt and coarse black people, maybe a little Cayenne). I’ll give them credit for having a bit of smoke flavor, something sorely missing from a lot of bbq joints around here but still not enough for me. And over the past few years, I’ve come to really appreciate my brisket«nude». I’ll even pass up The Salt Lick’s sauce from time to go time. But I tried both of Rudy’s and was totally unsatisfied with them. Oh well.

My sausage was not impressive, my husband said his brisket was the best he’d ever had, and he is super picky. The tables were barely clean. Teen staff were not rude, but not especially friendly either. Expect to get your food flopped in a milk crate, I do mean flopped, no plate, no paper basket, with her hands just plunked it there in the basket with her hands.(it did have a little parchment paper around it) I“ve been to plenty of ‘rustic’ BBQ joints before, so I know what country charming is, just don’t think I care for this brand of it.

I grab brisket breakfast tacos from here at least once a week. Best breakfast tacos I’ve ever had and will continue to eat them. Thank you for your brisket tacos!

Isn’t it required to learn about food safety pertaining to allergies before you can serve food? I do not understand how I can go into just about any restaurant back home and say, «Hi, I have celiac.» And then they not only know exactly what that means, but they have a protocol for handling my food. Then I come to the south, and everyone seems to be clueless. For example, this was my interaction with Rudy’s BBQ in Tyler, TX today– Me: «Hi– I’m very allergic to wheat(not EXACTLY the same but so much easier than explaining the details of celiac). Does that bread(pointing at the buns laid out) ever go near those cutting boards(pointing to carving station).» Guy at counter: «I think our buns have wheat in them. But they never go on the cutting boards» Me: «I know they have wheat, I just want to make sure the meat is safe. I’ll need you(talking to guy standing by the meat) to change your gloves please, before you get our food.» Random female worker overhears: «Oh wow! Do you have OCD?» Me: Startled because that’s pretty personal anyway. «No … I’m highly allergic to wheat.» I turn to my husband to discuss what meats we will get, and the guy behind the carving station yells to someone else, «Hey, do our buns have wheat in them?» Me: «Oh, I’m sure they have wheat in them.» Guy: «Yeah, but I just want to make sure.» Me: «Thanks for that, but I promise you they do. Flour is made from wheat and that’s what’s used to make bread.» Guy: «I don’t think you can have a sandwich then.» Me: «Yeah, no. I’m just here for the meat anyway.» And then, to my husband the guy asks if he’d like white or wheat bread put in a separate container. Then the guy said, «Oh yeah, white obviously, because whole wheat has wheat in it.» Um, no. Just, no. Now, these guys were super polite and they seemed to be trying very hard. I do not blame them one bit. I blame management for lack of training. It’s appalling. I know that Rudy’s has allergy cards. I wasn’t given one. Luckily I already know the meats and sauce are safe. And now, I am being assured that the meat cutting boards and knives are safe as well. I absolutely love Rudy’s and I was so excited to stop in our drive back home. I relished every bite. However, it’s been a few hours and I am very, VERY sick. This is the first time I have ever been glutened this bad. I ate nothing else aside from brisket, sissy sauce, about ¼ of a sausage link and a bite of potato salad –all items labeled safe by online allergy statements. And yet, I lay here, writhing in pain, rising only to spew acidic smoke-flavored vomit every 15 minutes or so. It isn’t food poisoning because no one else in my family is sick. I will likely experience muscle and joint pain, nausea and stomach cramps, fatigue and brain fog for the next few days as a result of this oversight. I was on vacation for two weeks prior to this and ate two meals a day dining out. I wasn’t sick once. I trusted so many different places with my health and wasn’t let down until Rudy’s. Not even a fast food place like Chick-Fil-A makes me sick. How did this happen??? Cross-contamination and lack of training. I will never frequent another Rudy’s establishment again.

Love Rudy’s everywhere! Excellent service, fast and friendly people, and the best BBQ you can find on a budget I like to mix the regular sauce and sissy sauce for the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. I try to stop by a Rudy’s whenever I’m traveling because I know I’ll get good food at a low price and very fast.

Breakfast tacooooos. They’re great, I love the potato and brisket one with the bbq sauce. The chopped beef sandwiches at lunch are pretty good too. I like the kick their beans have.

Everything here is sold by the pound. The turkey is probably some of the best ove ever had. Its very moist and flavorful. Their sauce has a strong vinegar bite to it but isnt to bad. Cream corn is delicious. Dont do looking for the plates couse you wont find them.

Rudy’s is a nice bbq place to dine at from time to time. In my opinion, it can be kind of expensive. Their brisket is not anything to die for, but it will satisfy your craving. Although, their sauce is one of my top favorite sauces to eat bbq with. They have a nice friendly staff that works at this one.

I have been to several Rudy’s barbecue restaurants and this one is the most consistently good one. I always get the moist brisket and have also tried the pork ribs as well as the breakfast burritos. I love the brisket here. While it’s not the best I’ve ever had it’s only because I’ve been to some of the best places in Texas. For a chain, I haven’t found better. The brisket has just the right amount of fat, bark, and smokey flavor. No sauce needed. The ribs are pretty good but tend to need sauce. Their«Wimpy Sauce» actually has a good kick to it and I think it’s perfect. The spicy sauce is a little too spicy for me and I like spicy. I’m not a fan of their sides. The beans are pretty bland, the potato salad is ordinary, and I am not a good judge of cream corn but I didn’t like that either. For breakfast they have a variety of burritos and I think I’ve tried them all. No complaints here all are very good, you just may want to make sure you have some salt, pepper or salsa as the eggs have no seasoning. I also love their complimentary jalapeños and carrots. Very spicy.

Rudy’s is a nice Texas chain BBQ place that I think is now in Oklahoma and New Mexico too. It’s a bit different here because you don’t really get the standard meal plate(meat and sides) but instead get everything in bulk on butcher paper and get sides separately served in a milk crate looking thing. My favorite are the brisket(fatty/moist) and the ribs. Should you get sides, I recommend the creamed corn. And yes, they give you tons of sliced bread if you ask.

Perfectly cooked brisket, the hot sausage links are to die for. After coming back from the northern states I come directly to Rudy’s. Not too many places no had a smoke meat, I can actually count all on one hand. Crazy enough all of them are in Texas. But then again I could be biased. You think? Try for yourself. You won’t be disappointed. :-)

Thing to know about Rudy’s is they sell meat by the pound. Which is good, but also dangerous. I wanted a bit of everything — brisket, chopped pork, turkey, ribs, and asked for 1⁄8 lb of each. What I got was ¼ pound of each for a total of more than 2 pounds of meat. This added up to $ 20 and was a huge amount of food for one person. But I ate it all. Everything was good. I’d go back, but now I know how to order.
