The only place that I know in the Bay area where one can buy a fresh coconut and have it grated in a machine right away. I have been there once a while back and it was great. Now if they only separate the counter where they grate coconut from meat and fish counters, –as many people are vegetarians and advertise in some East Indian paper or temple in Livermore etc. that they will sell and grate coconuts. I think they will get a lot of business.

We just go here for the Crispy Pata or Chicharon Bulaklak or other deep fried pinoy food(pulutan). That’s it. Without their deep fried food I don’t think this place would survive. I’m giving them 3 stars based only on the pulutan. Their staff is okay too. If you want groceries, go across the street. BTW…their food gets sold out during Pacquiao fights so call ahead and pick it up early! =)

I love their Crispy Pata and their Lechon Kawali is the bomb! We come here to buy food to bring to parties and it’s always the rave! This store has been long standing and have served the simplest folks driving far and wide from all over the Bay Area!

My parents order their fried food items: either fried fish, crispy pata or the lechon kawali. I’ve never liked lechon kawali until I had Magat’s. OMG. Loved it. I understand why Unilocalers say it’s either ugly or dirty inside. It’s just a store that pretty much stand on its own to serve the simplest people on what they need in their ‘filipino’ kitchen. Ya feel? Don’t expect the«Whole Foods» experience because you won’t get ‘Whole Foods” products. With that being said, take it with a grain of salt and take it for what its’ worth. Whether you hate it or love it, Magat’s Asian Grocery store is just one of those businesses where you can get a good deal on certain things.

I’m not judging this place because of it’s contents nor it prices, but because of the customer service we receive from the people here. The people who work at MAGAT have always treated us like family and have brought us the best customer service. When my grandma lived in Union City, she frequented this place and whenever we stop by to have fishes smoked or to pick up lechon, the owners never cease to ask how my grandma is doing. Sure, my family’s moved on to shop for groceries at Island Pacific, Seafood City, or better yet, Marina, but MAGAT still serves a purpose in this community.

This has got to be the dirtiest, ugliest, expensive, over-price pinoy grocery EVER. I was brought here by my uncle when I asked about local Filipino groceries and he said my aunt used to shop here a lot before she died. Now I love my aunt a lot but she died of cancer and looking at the condition of this store I wouldn’t be shocked of they gave it too her! They should change the first name to «Maggot» Do yourself a HUGE favor and go to the brand new Seafood City or Island Pacific instead. Neither is as posh as the new Safeway in the HUB or as cool as Trader Joe’s but they got your pinoy goods, and they have decent hygiene. In fact Seafood City is great and has lots of eateries too.
