Better than average but this place shouldn’t be empty. I arrived for lunch on a weekend and this place was a ghost town. Now I find out this place is closed? Ughh. I feel sorry for them.

Service literally kills it all, they need to hire new waitresses. Uncaring, they look like they hate their job and serving people. At least greet people when they walk in and smile and ask if we’re need anything more not just stand around and talk to one another. Waitress walks around looking at the bills and how much they’re tip it seems like that’s all they want is the money which they won’t get with standing around. Food wise, very good but service makes Me not want to come back because there are also very good ramen shops now days. I hate to say it but they really need to upgrade on service.

I would give this place 3 stars for organization, but 4 stars for food! overall 3.5 The ramen itself was delicious! We ordered the Kaarage, and I got the Miso Tonkatsu Ramen which is mildly spicy. I came in super hungover and luckily snagged the last table available for 2 people without a wait. The servers are all super cute and friendly but a bit slow on service. I had to wait to get seated because I didn’t see a waitress when I first entered. And had to wait a bit before my order was taken but they were pretty busy that day. I wanted to try their #1 ramen, but they were out of raw eggs? I’m confused. But okay. So I got the Miso Tonkatsu Ramen which was delicious still! My egg was soft boiled and delicious even though it looked kinda gross haha. Like someone hella peeled it and took half the egg white with it. But it yummy. The chicken karaage was also delicious! Highly recommend. The sauce is different but delicious. Also, while we were still eating, they had to close because they ran out of broth or something. So go earlier! Overall at 3.5 star experience.

I’m a ramen noob. Everyone has their own taste preference and I have mine. This spot fits my taste preference perfectly. I usually don’t prefer ramen not would I go out of my way to get it, but after this place, I find myself craving more ramen. I love spicy. I like my food to be the highest level of spicy if possible. The thing about getting your food spicy is that it kind of ruins the taste. That wasn’t the case for the ramen I had here. I had the spicy tonkotsu. The thing about the spicy tonkotsu was that you can taste the broth first and then the spicy kick comes later. I LOVED it! It’s my first time having ramen like that. Most spicy ramen I’ve had would just add hot chili oil to increase the spicy level. This one did their spicy ramen just right. I don’t live around the area but I’d definitely come back to have some ramen here.

ONE star because I can’t give them a ZERORATING! THISPLACEBLOWSONCUSTOMERSERVICE. We encountered a RUDEHOSTESSTODAY. So if you’re looking for dining experience with handsdown customer service, keep looking for other ramen restaurants. Other issues… Ordered hot tea for two and it never came. Basic items on the menu like corn and egg were not available. The broth was luke warm, pork was cold(eek!), noodles were too chewy(undercooked) and the broth too salty for my taste. I’ve been to other ramen places that serve more flavorful broth. The takoyaki sauce was salty too. The calamari was rubbery. It was disappointing and tbh, some boba and tea cafes serve better takoyaki and calamari. I will say for the record, I have been to their SF location last month and they served the same level of sodium but at least it was hot, and complete with all the ingredients listed on the menu. They say they are authentic but I have had ramen in Japan and this does not even come close to the quality they serve over there. I will pass on this restuarant and have scratched it off my list. UPDATE I received a very nasty(PROFANITYLADEN) message from an eloquent Unilocaler named«John R.»(from Union City). His message reads — — «you’re a b!+€#» and pointed out that I am a f*ck head and many more censored words I will not mention here. Interesting coincidence that some random person based in Union City decided to send a fire email on the same day of service. I doubt the owner(s) would send such a damning email so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. One may think it be foolish for a progressive business owner to lash back at reviewers who are sharing their experience as customers in his establishment instead of assessing the improvements that need to be made. If a restaurant and its employees can not accept feedback be it good or bad, then sadly, in this very competitive world where opinions are shared, they will be faced with monumental challenges in building and keeping clientle. I will not miss this place and will bring my business elsewhere. It was a mistake to drive out here and be given unwarranted aggravation. Good riddance!

Hands down best ramen for me in tri-city and for the price it’s definitely 5 stars . Il be honest, the soup does not have a lot of meat. However, I don’t think there’s any other ramen in the area which has better broth . The place is so good that there is a small wait time to eat. So make sure you come early or you’re not in a rush. The food comes quick though. Tonkatsu ramen is the best ! My gf always gets the miso ramen though. Takoyaki is pretty good as well. They also have small rice plates for 4 bucks I will be coming back for sure on a monthly basis

Not the best ramen place, but probably the best ramen in Union City. My sister was craving ramen so we came here on a rainly saturday since it was perfect for something soup-y. It’s probably my 3rd or 4th time here and my opinion about this place hasn’t changed much. Ramen is good, but it’s nothing comparable to Ippudo in NYC or some of the Ramen places in the South Bay. I got the Tonkotsu and soup tasted more flavorful than my past visits, however I was disappointed the egg was a little overcooked. Credits to the broth though. Service was just ok. Typical service that you would get from an asian restaurant where you just order and they give your food. The waitresses doesn’t really do much unless you ask them to(ex. refill water, ask if we needed anything else, etc). My brotherinlaw ordered Tonkotsu and clearly requested for no green onions. When his food came, they forgot about the no green onions part. He told the waitress, and they litterally just took the bowl back, picked out the green onions, and brought it back to him. Okay seriously? That was something he could’ve just done himself if they couldn’t make him another bowl… Overall, the place is good enough to fulfill your ramen cravings, but if you want really good ramen, go to Mountain View or Milpitas.

I really hate to give such a low rating but my boyfriend and I arrived here at 9:25PM and they said they were closed. The sign says they close at 10PM yet they refused us service. This place has good ramen and rice bowls which is why I was looking forward to eating here tonight. Unfortunately they closed their doors on us early. Not sure why, but it was enough to make me write this review. On the plus side, I recommend all their ramen and the tokushima rice bowl.

Men Oh Tokushima is down the street from where I work and it has become a staple of my weekly diet. While I find their tonkotsu and miso ramen to be so-so, I’m pretty obsessed with their tokushima ramen. It’s a porkier brothier version of their tonkotsu and it’s absolutely delicious. If you’re a little daring and willing to throw in a raw egg, you will take it to a whole new level. They provide you with a pitcher of water at each table so water will never be an issue. That food coma you get after slurping their broth will the. The lethargy is real.

I’ve found my favorite ramen joint in the Union City/Fremont/Newark area(so far)! It’s kind of hidden, but it’s right next to Shabuway in case you’re having trouble finding it like I did today. Came here on a cold rainy day with my bf and it totally hit the spot. The place is small and we came here around 6:00 on a Wednesday, so I could totally see it filling up with a wait around 7/the weekend. I ordered the regular sized tonkotsu ramen and my bf got the large deluxe spicy tonkotsu, which is the tonkotsu broth($ 8.50) with a bunch of other extra toppings, in a huge bowl($ 8.50+$ 2 for the large + $ 3 for deluxe). Sometimes his inner fatty likes to come out. Lol. We also split an order of karaage chicken($ 3.50). Anyways, even the regular sized bowl was quite generous. It comes standard with a soft boiled egg, bamboo, green onions, char shu pork, and a piece of seaweed. I think in addition to all of that, my bf’s bowl also came with more char shu and pork belly. FYI the large is definitely large, so if you order that, you better be hungry. The good: –generous portions, I’m still stuffed 5 hours later –broth is rich and tasty –a good amount of noodles –there’s an adequate amount of meat and the quality is decent –THEEGG! It’s well seasoned on the outside layer so that when you bite into it, the egg whites are mostly still white. Most importantly, yolk was runny –karaage was tasty and not dry The not-so-good: –noodles are slightly over chewy, but not bad –i love green onions, but there was soo much and the cuts of it were huge. too onion-y –chicken could be a bit more breaded and slightly more seasoned –bamboo was kind of sweet in a not-good way? Here is my updated ramen preference list: Orenchi(Santa Clara) Kansui(SJ) Ippudo(NYC) Ramen Dojo(San Mateo) Santouka(SJ) Men Oh(Union City) Ramen Seas(Sunnyvale) Kotetsu(Santa Clara) Misoya(Santa Clara) Kahoo(SJ) Totto(NYC Halu(Santa Clara) Maru Ichi(Mountain View) Shin Shin(SJ) Ramen Ten Ma(SJ) Ogisan Ramen(SJ)

I came here to try this place out because my friends said this place was pretty good. Since I tried the one in San Francisco, I think I should try this place out in the Bay Area. The place was pretty hard to find since there was no sign to identify the restaurant, it was right next to Shabuway. Also, the outside looks abandoned and ugly, but when you walk into the restaurant it looks pretty classy. I came here around 9pm, and there was plenty of table, no need to wait. I got the spicy tonkatsu ramen(mild), and the potsticker as an appetizer. It took around 5 – 10 minutes for my ramen to come, and addition 10 minutes for my appetizer to arrive which I thought was odd because usually appetizers come before the meal. But anyways the ramen was not as good as I expected. The noodles were a bit overdone, and the broth was not creamy enough. It was a bit water down, but the broth smelled really delicious. I had to add extra chili powder into my broth to give it an extra kick to my taste buds. The potsticker was not good at all. It was super oily, and not crispy. When you bite into it, you can taste the oil spilling out and it was under seasoned. So I would not recommend ordering that. Although I did not get a good experience here, I would come here again just to see if there is any improvement. I’ve tried a lot of ramen place, and this is the only ramen i’ve tried in Union City so I can’t compare it to any other places, for that reason I give this place a 3 star rating.

Although the food is decent, the service has sucked and will always suck I’m guessing. Each bowl takes forever to come out which makes the wait way too long for a ramen joint.

Men Oh Tokushima Ramen definitely surprised me on the quality of their ramen bowl this weekend. After reading many of the reviews, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s probably why it took me so long to come try this place. First, I wish they came out and greeted people when they opened or at least lock the door before opening. My boyfriend and I had been waiting in line for about 5 minutes before other people started showing up and lining up behind us. At exactly 12, two girls walked up to the door, not even looking at us who were already in line and just walked in and seated themselves. If they had come out to get us or if the door was locked, then someone would’ve been able to tell the girls they need to get in line. There were about 8 other people behind us so we were pretty baffled by these girls –____– Anyway. You’re not here for my rant, onto the food! I ordered Miso Ramen because I love the miso base and it was one that came with the things I love most in my ramen — corn and soft boiled egg. My boyfriend got the spicy tonkatsu because he had a stuffy nose and wanted something spicy to help. Personally, I LOVED the soup in mine. It was rich and creamy, but not TOO much. It had a slight kick of spiciness but not enough for me to really taste it, just enough to give it more flavor. The noodles were cooked perfectly, not too raw/hard and not too soft. My boyfriend enjoyed his ramen too but with the spiciness it was hard to taste anything. It helped his stuffy nose but I don’t think he would get it otherwise as he isn’t a fan of spicy things anyway. We also got the karaage, which was good but the pieces were too big to eat comfortably and the portion was small for the price. The sauce went really well with it though. Texture of the chicken was good! Service was good from the short-haired girl! She was really nice(:

First time eating at the Men Oh restaurant — although we did manage to try their ramen at the 2014SF Japantown Ramen Festival(Ramengeddon) We ordered two large bowls of Tokushima Ramen — their signature specialty that’s characterized by real rich(but not oily) and thick pork broth and chewy noodles. They included a raw egg(they’ll charge a little to cook it), bamboo shoots, scallions, and a few pieces of juicy pork. Note a large bowl is extra noodles and broth, but not meat. I should have ordered extra pork! The egg was good — soft boiled. I think the idea of the raw egg is to scramble it yourself and the pour into the hot broth. Food took a while to come out beginning, but they did check up on us. Overall, I would say 3 stars — comparable to Tadamasa I think, but I still like Yokohama Iekei more.

Service was«bleh.» Very friendly waiter, but the restaurant was understaffed during a lunch hour on a weekday. Slow. Also, it didn’t help to have angry and disgruntled cooks visible through the clear glass window. I ordered the Spicy Tonkotsu and was impressed with the soup broth. It was pretty filling, especially with the rich texture and the extra noodles(+2.00). The Chashu, however, wasn’t too flavorful. The meat didn’t have a distinguish flavor, which was a tad bit bland. At least it was tender! The soft-boiled egg was pretty on point though, so they get brownie points there. What’s even more disappointing? The Kakkuni, which was an additional $ 3.00, was cold, tasteless, and a regret. If this wasn’t terrible, they may have deserved another star. Overall, I would probably visit this establishment again. It’s not a top ramen by any means, but it does satisfy my ramen cravings.

People who give this place any less than 4 stars do not know their ramen… 1) don’t come here if you expect something that caters to your personal taste(eg hard boiled eggs, not spicy enough, etc.) 2) don’t order shit you know nothing about(eg takoyaki). You people don’t know just how diverse takoyaki can be prepared so… don’t order takoyaki at a ramen shop… idiots. These are pretty much the biggest issues I have with people giving this place terrible reviews. I ordered the Tokushima ramen with a soft boiled egg(I will try the raw egg next time). The broth was flavorful, nice porky-faint garlicky depth, and just all in all solid. The noodles were also firm without being too firm or too chewy. I also ordered the ika geso(fried squid legs), which is a standard izakaya dish which they also did a satisfactory job on. The green tea crème brûlée was also delicious – not too sweet, delicately crunchy top and not too rich. Great meal finisher. Orenchi is overrated, this place was solid.

This is a ramen joint located in the El Mercado shopping center. I came here with a friend on a Sunday night. The place was consistently busy. There was only one person running the floor so service seemed a little slow at times. Gyoza was OK, but nothing special. $ 3.95 for 5 pieces. My go to ramen dish is the spicy tonkotsu and I was delighted to see that they have it here. I got the bowl and was pleased about the broth. The broth was rich and creamy. I got mild and I thought it was just the right amount of spicy(spicy enough to give a kick but not spicy enough to tickle my throat). The noodles were a bit sparse and I felt like they could have been a bit chewier. I finished my noodles in record time, and usually I have a problem finishing all of the noodles. Also, the cha siu pork that was in it was rather mediocre. In fact, I was a bit worried because the meat was a rather grey shade, instead of the usual pink or red. If it weren’t for the broth I think this would have been a solid 3 star ramen joint. But I liked the broth enough(probably the best one I’ve had in the Bay Area so far) that I’ll give it the extra star. $ 8.95 for the bowl of ramen with no extras.

Ramen shops are poppin’ up all over the place, especially in Union City. And just like Phở noodles, each place has a slightly different twist to their broth. So, the war of the broth is ON! But this is still not my favorite but that won’t deter me from coming back to eat here again. If you have an itching for ramen, then it needs to be scratched! This place is dark and hidden and smacked dabbed next to a Shabu Shabu Restaurant. You’ll see Shabu Shabu but you won’t see Men Oh Tokushima Ramen, so, if you see Shabu, then you’re at the right place :). The ramen comes out pretty quickly after ordering. Me and my bff both ordered the tonkatsu ramen with side of corn nibblers. We also wanted to taste their braised pork belly appetizer and what a mistake! That’s one of the worst braised pork bellies I’ve ever eaten. It was dry, hard, no flavor, and just a waste of our $ 4.75! Don’t order that = 0STAR. However, the ramen was decent, the broth was creamy, needed a pinch more salt, noodles were aldente and all the toppings were good. The ramen was a good 3.5STARS rating. Next time, I think I’ll try the double creamy tonkatsu broth… it’s $ 2 bucks more and only 10 bowls per day are made but maybe it’ll be worth it since I’m all about the broth. Until next time!

REALRATING: 3.5 stars Men Oh Tokushima Ramen is pretty difficult to find. It’s located right next to Shabuway and doesn’t have a sign, so it will not grab your attention. I drove around the strip mall’s parking lot a couple times before I spotted it. Just an FYI, Men Oh is facing Alvarado-Niles Road. ATMOSPHERE: The joint is pretty dim and quaint. It’s a fairly small place. Just to give you an idea of how small it is — I went on a Friday night and there was only one server. TONKATSUMISORAMEN ~ 3.5 stars ~ $ 8.95: Served with three slices of Chashu Pork, one seasoned boiled egg, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, corn, green onions and a a flap of seaweed, this bowl of ramen turned out pretty good. I’ve gotta admit that my expectations weren’t very high going into it even though I read some pretty good reviews on this place before going, so that could have contributed to my favorable review. The broth was pretty good, I just wish it had more umph to it. I probably should have ordered the Spicy Tonkatsu, but no worries. It wasn’t anything that couldn’t be fixed by adding hot sauce. The Chashu was tender and the egg was softly boiled — I loved both. What I liked most about this place are their noodles. I’m not sure if they’re handmade or what, but they were good. Cooked perfectly. Overall, I was very satisfied with it. Men Oh isn’t the best out there but it’s a great place to hit up if you’re craving ramen. To be honest, I’d totally go back to enjoy some good ramen without having to wait in a ridiculously long ass line like other spots in The Bay. You should totally try this place out. You won’t be disappointed!

1.5 stars but rounding down because it’s not just a «meh» feeling. I’ve come here twice before with sub-par experiences and was hoping Men Oh would get its act together after not coming here over half a year. +1 star for the effort of the only front-end employee. This place was packed one night and this woman was the hostess, waitress, AND busser. She was constantly going back and forth around the place to take orders, serve food, distribute checks, and clean up tables. Men Oh, hiring one more person would not hurt. +0.5 star for the décor. It’s a decent-looking restaurant. They should get rid of that long table in the front and put in multiple two-seaters so couples don’t have to share this table when it gets packed. That middle decoration adds distance between two people of the same party sitting across from each other. With the music, it’s like we have to yell across the table. Ramen was almost room temperature, my soft-boiled egg was refrigerator cold(not sure if that’s supposed to happen), and I did not come out full. That last part says a lot, considering I’m a small person who normally prefers sharing entrees when eating out.
