Continuing on our trip thru Michigan and before you hit the Kzoo area, you will see signs on the highway that advertise wineries in the area. We stopped at St. Julian and were not disappointed. Very busy on the weekends plus they had a wine festival going on in the town as well, we hit both areas in one day. Taking in the wine tasting was a good idea as we purchased two bottles of their holiday dessert wine, wonderful taste to it. Onward to the wine festival, no fee required. Additional tasting was going on under the tent. Had a wonderful time while we were at the winery, we have returned on several occasions. If you have been to the Napa Valley area in California, there is no comparison with the wines and the beautiful scenery that is Napa. Enjoy this winery for what it is, a nice place to visit on the weekend and to purchase locally produced wine at a fraction of the price that is seen in the Napa Valley region. Friendly, well informed staff that will answer any question you may have in regards to the wine choices you make. The location is a very small town, continue heading down the highway to the beach areas of Michigan.

I’ve been coming here for many years and always enjoy the tastings and wine! The staff here is very welcoming and friendly during the tastings. I tend to like the full bodied red wines(the Chancellor is one of my favorites), but have also enjoyed trying some of their lighter wines. I’m also a big fan of their cider.

$ 6 for five pours plus a glass. Prices went up since we were here last year but eh, what can you do, right? Early Saturday afternoon & this place was pretty busy. They had enough staff on hand to tend the tasting counter but the line at the register was pretty long. That must mean their wine is pretty great! Actually it is. I liked every pour & enjoyed some of the little snacks they had set up around the tasting area. Added bonus: our DD was able to drink their non alcoholic sparkling drinks for free. See you soon St. Julian.

Was driving by and saw the sign so as a regular of Solvang I figure I would give it a shot. Walked in and just another couple were being waited on. No hello or hi or smile. Didn’t ask if I needed any help or would I like to do the flights. WTF? Oh well. Checked out a few things and after 15 figured they were making so much money they didn’t need any of mine. I would never come back if I was local. Gave them 2 stars as their bathroom was clean.

I loved the winery! Had great recommendations and showed clear knowledge of wine. It was fairly busy at the time and the employees were still able to give quality one one one time with everyone. I would bring friends back to experience it as well! They even introduced me to a new favorite Cock of the Walk

Yesterday my girlfriend and i ventured out on a mini road trip to Michigan to de-stress so we decided to hit a couple of wineries, the first being this one. $ 5 for 6 tastings(we got one extra) and you keep the beautiful tasting glass. Everything, I mean everything here is GREAT! every single tasting we had was amazing! Our server was Adam and it was his first day. He did an amazing job and was funny and friendly. My favorite wine was Envy(a sweet white like Moscato) but their Sangria is amazing as well, they have a red and a white. You can tell they put their heart and soul into their wines. They also make homemade salsas and spreads and had free samples for tasting as well. Their fruit wines, wow, to die for. Most bottles are between $ 10 and $ 13. Did i mention They make their own champagne as well? They have a cute shop with jewelry, wine racks, tons of wine accessories, cute doormats, they have everything. My gf and I spent close to $ 100 here. I’ve now been to every single winery in the area and i can’t believe i’ve always passed this one up. Definitely check it out, it’s worth it. They have 3 other locations also: Paw Paw, Dundee, and Frankenmuth.

Definitely a place to return to. The employees were very friendly, knowledgeable, and most importantly, they didn’t try to rush you in and out like you were a part of a cattle call. Since it was a hot day, I tried 6 sparkling wines & ciders, and came home with a pack of the apple cider Gunga-Din. YUMMM!!! Especially loved the fact that they sold snacks!

To be honest the wine is more of a 3 star(for me). The tasting is so fun with such nice staff I can’t rate them only average. Prices are very reasonable here. This location sits just behind Round barn. Definitely hit them both up for a tasting when in the area. * if you are a fan of medium bodied reds the cock of the walk is actually a decent wine.

We enjoyed our tasting. 5 bucks and a glass to take home. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. She offered lots of recommendations. We purchased 3 bottles of wine and a jar of salsa. So many wines to choose from — I know we will certainly be back.

We stopped at the New Buffalo location. The tasting room is well stocked, so you will have no problem finding the wines that you enjoyed. The staff was friendly and very helpful; they understand their product well. As for the wine, it’s okay. I wouldn’t consider these to be great wines, but decent table wines for the money.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVETHISPLACE&CAN’T WAITUNTIL I CANRETURN :) This was the 3rd of 4 wineries that we visited in the area on a wine tour. By far, the best! There was such a nice selection to choose from(wine & spirits) and everything was quite tasty. Loved the catchy names they have too — Head Games, Cock of the Walk. I am a bit of a wino but seriously, seriously people — EVERYTHINGWASGOOD. If only I could buy them all… Anyway, the lady who helped us — Tonya from good ol Alabama. Such a doll! She was extremely personable, informative, & very patient while I decided on my selections. Tonya provided us excellent customer service & I missed half of my next tasting across the street chatting it up with her. Tonya — thanks girl, you rock! All in all, I would make the trip from Chicago just to come here — drink that good wine & chat with my girl Tonya. Oh & the crackers/dip was the cherry on top.

5 bucks for six tastings and you keep the glass?! A freaking gold mine!!! Great service and friendly employees! We grabbed some dip and chips off the shelves and dove in at the counter without question. Great wines, spirits, comp’d crackers and non-alcoholic drinks… um, where have we been for so long! Loved it!

Wow! We absolutely loved St. Julian Winery! We had first stopped at Round Barn(just ok) and then immediately went to St. Julian(located right next door). I can honestly say I don’t understand how Round Barn receives better reviews on Unilocal. We had a much better time at St. Julian which has been around since 1921. First and foremost the tastings themselves are HALF the price at St. Julian. The wines were better and they had a larger selection and MUCH better prices. We actually ended up purchasing 6 bottles, while we didn’t buy any at Round Barn. The girl who helped us with our tastings was Jenn. I’ll call her our winetender. She was just awesome. Super fun to chat with and made excellent suggestions with confidence. We will definitely be returning here. Try the ‘head games’ seasonal wine, omg it’s delicious. Also the late Harvest Riesling.

As a person that buys at least a bottle of wine whenever I go to a tasting, charging for tastings when you are buying wine still rubs me the wrong way. However, the wine was good and the service was great. I ended up buying about 4 bottles to take back home. One thing I thought was interesting was the blueberry infused in the cool instrument bottle. It was a little strong for me drinking it alone, but he mixed it with cider… wowza it was good!

Horrible experience, worst customer service I’ve ever had. I called Chris at the Union Pier store to get a recommendation for a sizable wine purchase for a wedding, and he advised me on some choices. Not knowing anything about wine I wrote down his recommendation, and 2 weeks later purchased 6 cases of wine. When speaking with Chris I asked if we could return the unopened wine that wasn’t used at the wedding and he assured me that I could. After the wedding was over(2 days after I purchased over $ 700 in wine) I went to return the wine and was advised very rudely that«We do not re-buy wine», I told the ladies that were working that I had been told by Chris that I could return the unused wine after the wedding but they insisted they weren’t taking any wine back, and even implied that I was making my conversation with Chris up. I called Chris that Monday and he remembered speaking with me and I reminded him what he said and he never denied saying it, and said that he would call the winery to see if they could take back the wine and call me back. 3 days later when I still hadn’t heard from Chris I called back and he said there was nothing he could do and further hardened his stance and denied he had told me they could take back the wine. I then asked to speak to the manager and a woman named Sherry got on the phone who was incredibly rude and even hung up on me. Needless to say, buyer beware at St Julian, I wouldn’t really trust anything these people tell you, either about recommendations or anything else for that matter.

First of all, the service was great– 5 Stars! Tanya(sorry if the spelling is wrong) was especially fantastic. All the staff was super knowledgable and helpful. A+ The tasting selection was really broad– almost everything was available. The tasting menu was very informative, but I wish it had included vintages and varietal information for the blends. You get 6 tastes(about 1oz ea) for $ 5 and get to keep the glass, which is a great deal. The wines were simple, but enjoyable. Favorites were the Blanc de Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Merlot and Cab Sauv :)

St. Julian is just a small little tasting room/gift shop right off the expressway. It is right next door to Free Run Cellars/Round Barn so if you can hold your liquor(and have a DD!) you can have a lot of fun in essentially a one stop shop. The tasting was only $ 5 and it includes a souvenir glass and 5 pours(or 6 if you’re lucky enough to have someone who wants to show you something new… Thanks for the«Cock of the Walk» sample!) which I am guessing are about 1 – 1.5 ounces each. There are a lot of wines to choose from ranging from dry to sweet in both reds and whites, sparkling wines, and dessert wines(and they even have liquor and cooking wines available too!). The list they give you is pretty informative… it gives you categories, residual sugar, some impressions, and prices(for both bottles and cases if you’re going big). I was all over the board here… tried some semi-sweet stuff, a couple of reds, and then ended with both sangrias. I will tell you this: The Chancellor Noir(Braganini? label… still their wine, but apparently a limited release) BLEWMYMIND. It was so good. It tastes like a delicious chocolate covered cherry and after I share the bottle I bought, I may just go back for a case. And not share it. The people here were really nice(and gave me member pricing for working in the industry!) but just know there is a members club and they will get served first(at least that’s what I noticed in my short time there). And they’ll get more schmoozing too(if you care about that kind of thing). You’ll notice the members because they have different glasses(thanks to CSI for making me notice my surroundings even whilst lit). Oh, and one last tip… you will need to get a tasting token first before getting served, so stop at the register before you head to the bar. Cheers!
