Outstanding food, fantastic selection, clean place, excellent prices, great and friendly customer service on the part of Merle, Yong, and the entire staff. This filipino restaurant and oriental market is even better than the filipino restaurants I went to when I lived in Los Angeles. Like all the other reviewers mentioned, this is a truly hidden gem of a restaurant in San Antonio or any place else. I’ve lived in many places in the good ol’ U.S. of A. and also overseas and M.Y. Chockdee is one of my favorite places for Filipino food. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

This place was different. It is a Filipino grocery store with a cafeteria buffet style dining experience. The food was good. I think the only thing that would’ve made this place better is of the food was labeled. I was thankful that there was another patron there who was friendly and helpful in explaining the dishes and desserts available.

Great Filipino food buffet on weekends. My wife and I like to go there. It’s kinda different being that it’s in the back of an Asian market but the food is good and kept very clean.

Came here after checking out The Alamo and being a Filipina from Southern California, I have some standards about Filipino food. When we arrived, we were a little surprised about the location but having Filipino food inside of a store is nothing new to us with Island Pacific and Seafood City having the same concept. They seated us right away and we went straight to the buffet. They had good choices like garlic or steamed rice, tocino, pinakbet, pancit, lechon and kare kare! We left stuffed!

Latest finds here have been fresh Thai peppers and green papaya. I don’t believe they carry the peppers all the time, but if you see it. Get it. Yum! Prices here are always reasonable.

This is by far the best Filipino restaurant in Texas that I’ve been in. The food was excellent! The dinaguan, kare kare, and lechon kuwali, were soooo tasty! Everything tasted like home cooking! The only draw back is that I live to far from here. Now I know why they have lines out the door for there food! Just wish it were closer! 5 stars!

I haven’t had this good Filipino food since my mother, God bless her soul, passed away 10 years ago! I’m not kidding, it was an emotional experience for me to have that much good, home cooked, Filipino food and desserts that my mom use to make all at once!!! Lunch buffet under $ 10 includes water! If a place has lots of Filipino people eating there, that’s a hint that it’s that good! Highly recommend and they make tocino and longanisa on Saturdays! I wish I was staying longer than a few days!!! Must try if love Filipino food!

Asian market and filipino buffet. I have visited this store many times. Their buffet is wonderful when ever you need that filipino food fix. They also have catering which is great. They carry most items a Asian market sells. Some produce. I’m not sure what day they replenish their shelves but I know it’s weekly. The workers are nice and I have never had a problem. The bathrooms are always clean. 1 star for service 1 star for food 1 star for facilities 1 star for clean bathrooms 1 star overall. .will visit again.

Good selection of food. Their style of cooking is not what I prefer. A few of their choices, such as adobo, are more on the sweeter side. I like my adobo with more vinegar. I also think they should have non-bottled water to serve. The price of the buffet is high enough. Filipino food isn’t that expensive. I probably won’t come back because of the price.

I always get excellent service when I come here. The prices are a little high but they always have what I need and anything you get fresh is exactly that fresh.

One of the best Filipino buffets I have ever been to. Huge selection. Everything tasted good. Buffet is in the back of a grocery store. Tables are very crowded and close together. Go for the good food but be aware that there is no ambiance.

I came out here to San Antonio to attend my dads funeral and met up with my uncle this morning. Wanting to eat food other than pancakes I found this place on Unilocal, thank you, cause we had no idea there was Filipino out here. Unilocal showed the buffet opening at 10:00AM but when we pulled up there was a sign reading buffet was open at 11:00. Wanting to kill time my uncle walked in to see if the store sold bitter-melon when in fact the people invited us to eat the buffet that was ready. Coming from Huntington Beach this place smoked the restaurants in my area. The food was delicious hot and freshly cooked. The eating area was clean and the people friendly. Thank you

It’s a great little hidden treasure of a Filipino/Asian store and restaurant combo. The only reason I rated it 4 stars is the awkward location and mini parking lot in front of it. I think it can hold a Max of maybe 6 – 7 cars. But the inside is much bigger than you’d expect, with a fresh all you can eat Filipino buffet(best invention in existence) and a mini grocery inside. It has plenty of seating and the staff are very fast and courteous with you, if a little confusing when you go in for the buffet. You have to tell them you want to eat and it’s pretty much serve yourself except they give you a free water bottle and silverware with your meal. Overall, a definite favorite!

We were pleasantly surprised by this Filipino restaurant/grocery store. The buffet had a great selection of main dishes and deserts. Quiet a few reviews already mention what they serve so what we had today(Sunday) was no different from what’s already been mentioned. To summarize, they served prawns, fried fish, pancit bihon and canton, adobo, several vegetable dishes, lechon kawali, longaniza, tocino, etc. We also enjoyed their bakery. We grabbed some pork siopaos(not stingy with their filling) and their ensaimada(not bad). Finally, we went to town on their groceries. So much to choose from! We treated ourselves to a half a gallon of the halo halo ice cream. Never had it so the verdict is still out on this. All together, great food variety of what Filipinos look for. To top it of, the place is clean. Kudos to the owners for giving Fil-Ams like myself a place to go to when we have a craving for our typical dishes.

The best Filipino food I’ve found in town… buffet style and very much like eating in your Auntie’s kitchen. The pancit, lumpia, fried rice, and halo halo were authentic and delicious. It also very well priced. I went on a weekday though so I will definitely have to go back on a weekend when their selection is larger… then I can snap some pictures.

Best Filipino food in Texas! Yes, I can say it. Every Texas city I’ve been in, I’ve tried every Filipino restaurant. This is by far the best. Think of your mom’s or grandmother’s cooking, then multiply that by 10. It’s also a buffet. So eat to your heart’s delight. It’s nestled in a neighborhood so you’ll have to go on an adventure to find it, but it’s worth it. This place is a gem.

As far as great tasting Filipino food for the price value, this is as good as it gets in this area(Not counting your own Lola’s cooking of course!). The buffet is pretty varied and plentiful. We went on a weekday and apparently the weekend buffet has much more variety. I can’t imagine how that would be because what we had was eye and belly popping already! The 5th star is solely dedicated to their Halo-Halo. THEBEST compared to the other Filipino Restaurants in the SA area. Only downer… its FAAAAAR from me anyway, but give this place attention if you are in the area.

This is very good food at a good price. My family and I went for the Buffett based on a coworkers recommendation. It is aimed toward Filipino’s… So the down fall for me(and my very white) family was there weren’t any kind of labels, so, we didn’t exactly know what we were eating. Lol But it was good :)

This is a long, overdue review with some input from my mom who goes there more than I do. Coming from Anchorage, we had great and varied oriental market options. So when we moved to the area in 08′, my mom was pretty stoked there was a market so close by. However she points out that the options are limited, and it can be pricey. The only great thing is that its close and convenient, as opposed to driving out to the other oriental markets like the one in Walzem, for instance. As for the food, I can’t say much cause I’ve never had it, but then again I’m not too found of Filipino food. I do like how they have Thai coffee packets though cause that’s just plain delicious. Now if only they’d sell Thai tea packets… cough cough.

Review for the weekend buffet only(fiesta pork buffet) and remodeling of the store. I arrived on a Sunday around 12:30 to a packed house. Merle and crew have really gotten this Filipino buffet and store down to a science. They are plenty of employees to professionally seat you, bring you a drink or water, and drop off your ticket. You can tip if you want as there is a tip jar on the buffet; however, with the crowd there today, it was surprisingly empty. It may be a culture thing, I don’t know. This weekend buffet is pork overload or orgasm. They had pork lechon, which are cubes of pork with the skin extremely crispy, pork, filipino bacon, pork lumpia, and pork in all manners of stewed vegetables. Did I mention they had pork??? That pork lechon, which looks exactly like fried pork belly is so rich that I could only eat two pieces. There is fish sauce and Filipino vinegar to cut the richness. For desert, they make halo halo on the weekend for $ 3.50. I had three of their wonderful rice based deserts such as biko biko, flan, and another bread pudding type of desert with rice. I’m very impressed with the cleanliness and organization of the store, unlike in the past with crowded, unpriced goods. I will be coming back but only on Sundays. Although, a lot of the food today was just North of lukewarm on the buffet(the stews), I was super impressed with the taste of all the pork, especially that wonderful lechon and Filipino sausage.

We are visiting the area and decided to search for Filipino food; specifically halo-halo. The food is AMAZING specially the dinuguan and halo-halo!!! The owner and the rest of the crew were the best people we have ever met, she went all out and made us feel like we’re at home and everything was good. We even took a picture with her ;) THISPLACEISTHEPLACETOGOIFYOUARECRAVINGFILIPINOFOOD!!!

Awesome food, awesome staff. My favorite place to eat. Really nice home atmosphere. The price to dine in or take out is very cheap. One of my favorite dish is their fried fish. Nicely fried fresh every time I come to eat. Take out orders is only $ 5.99 and you pick two dishes along with two scoops of fried or white rice. Also the fried rice is very delicious. Very simple but good and addictive.

4⁄5 *PARKING — Lots of parking, enjoy the space! *PRICE — Where can you get buffet for under $ 8(weekdays) and $ 10(weekends) that has all the Filipino food goodness? This place! *STAFF — Only the male owner is worth mentioning here that has good customer service! We got there late at the evening and they do not want to add more on their desert aisle just because?! So I did not even manage to get my favorite«biko»(rice dessert) and was forced to munch down on the leftover«ginataan», lumpia was also gone as well. *FOOD — Try their biko if you can, one of the best. Their Lumpia and Sinigang is worth mentioning as well!

Meh! I have this Filipino buffet bookmarked for a long time but had not visited b/c it’s too far from me. Finally I went for lunch on a Thursday since I was in the area. I had high hopes b/c hole in the wall type of restaurant in a supermarket always means it’s authentic and had never disappointed me. But my visit here was a bit let down. The buffet had decent selections but the food lacked flavor and somehow tasted the same. They had several kinds of desserts too but they kinda tasted the same also. Ppl were super nice tho and the price is cheap so I can see why it attracts diners. But for me, it isn’t special. I really can’t give more than 3 stars for the food. I didn’t browse the grocery sections do I can’t speak about that. If you like Filipino food, Lily’s is a better choice IMO.
