Al’s is a pleasant surprise, a bit rundown looking– like Upper Marlboro itself– but with quality grub. Not fancy, not expensive, not bad at all. Service is fine. Breakfast and lunch on weekends are much quieter than the usual chain restaurants plus the food AND price are better!

This Mom & Pop restaurant is my mom’s favorite place mostly because the people are so personable, friendly and the food is usually pretty good. Whenever I walk in they frequently ask how my mom is and tell me to tell her hi. I saw a few reviews about how the place needs to be «gutted out» honestly I have OCD…(and not the kind people joke about I mean LITERALLY) and I still eat here. So to those people I’d say instead of complaining send them business so that they can indeed improve the location. Anyway because I’m particular about how my eggs are made/how they look(ocd remember) I am frequently known to al carte most of my breakfast items. One thing I absolutely love from here when they have it available is their liver and onions(really good gravy). I also like their ham and cheese sandwiches. My mom usually likes their veggie omelets and ham steak. So yea I’d recommend them if you need something quick and want that home cooked feel. They take phone orders and I do believe they deliver.

Not worthy of a star. Nice waitress, but the place needs to either be bull dozed or a serious deep cleaning. Each entrée was so steeped in grease it was difficult to pick up the sandwiches. It seriously crossed my mind to not eat anything that I ordered but I didn’t want to be rude. I ate few bites but am now dealing with a stomachache. Hope you don’t need to use the bathroom while you are there…

I can’t even think about my experience without getting sick… we were greeted by the rudest waitress and the place was disgusting from floor to ceiling. Food was mediocre but place needs to be gutted out completely!!! Does the health department inspect restaurants in Upper Marlboro???

A local favorite of mine. Great breakfast food, large portions. They serve scrapple which I understand a lot of people really enjoy, me not so much. Everyone is friendly, and the service is usually pretty good. Right next to the courthouse in our lovely downtown upper Mallboro, lots of folks doing business at the courthouse and with bail bondsmen. You never know who’s sitting next to you in there :-)

The food is delicious! The staff was great, as well. Don’t come looking for fancy though… nothing fancy about the place at all. Needs a major overhaul BUT… the good was great. I had a turkey burger and my hubby had a cheeseburger. We both agreed they were juicy and filling. All the food came quick and HOT! We wanted to try a mom and pop joint and this place was indeed a good idea. I do hope they spruce it up. Check them out!

Al’s is an Upper Marlboro staple that has been around long before I came into this world. I remember eating here as a little boy(it’s where I developed my love of chocolate chip pancakes) and now over 25 years later I’m happy to say they are still standing and that I still visit anytime I’m in town. Family owned and operated, in all these years they have not changed a beat. Still the same soul a local diner should have. It may not be the fanciest, it may not be the newest, but Al’s somehow has held on and I really hope continues to do so. Quality food at an affordable price. Plus friendly staff who treat every customer like they’ve known them forever. Judges, politicians, and Upper Marlboro locals all eat at Al’s regularly(Note: it’s a few steps away from the court house).

My wife and I were dealing with court records and decided to stop at this place on her suggestion. I was a bit wary as it seemed like a bit of a «hole in the wall», but my wife’s family has lived in Upper Marlboro for generations. Despite its décor, the fact that judges, lawyers, and old Maryland families all eat here should speak volumes! The key is the family that runs this place, who still cook things the way they should be. No mass produced food products, no overpriced Costco frozen foods, just simple diner/country kitchen food. I ordered a burger and what came out was nice and thick, hot off the grill, and tasty like nothing fast food can come up with. Service was quick and friendly and my wife even stopped to catch up with the family that have run the place for years. So, if you’re in downtown Upper Marlboro, probably at one of the courthouses or records, and need a bite to eat then Al’s is your place. Just wish we had an eatery like this a little closer to home!

Phone Service is great! I’ve only eaten here twice, but the two times I’ve ordered over the phone the woman that answers is always pleasant and ready to take your order. I’ve never been put on hold.
