I was referred to Dr Hafner on a personal referral. He always made me feel very welcomed and comfortable which was important to me because I get really nervous at dental visits. I knew he had just invested in some advanced technology so I was excited to learn that. I had a clean up, x –rays, and small dental work done this was in 2013. A year later I called to schedule a clean up a couple weeks before my wedding. Renee, his secretary told me I had an outstanding balance for service that I was provided with over a year ago. I never received a bill so I asked for a bill. The bill had no explanation of services and when I called again I was told unless I paid the $ 564.00 I would not be able to schedule a clean up. I waited until after my wedding, when we had the money to pay this off, as we had waited two years just to get married because we were saving money and paying for everything ourselves. I didn’t have my original claim information to call my previous carrier to look into the balance and I was in so much pain, I just paid it off just so I can have work done that was long over do. This time I noticed that I was asked to pay hundreds of dollars up front base on an estimate they came up with for the work I needed. I paid the first amount that day and two weeks later paid another amount due on top of paying off the $ 564.00 I «owed.» The work I had done was a crown placement, all covered by my insurance carrier. When I finally received my bill I realized the total for all the work came out to $ 995.40. I did the math and realized I over paid $ 91.50. I didn’t think much of it at all, as I was told if there was a difference I would be credited. so I called the office to see if a check would be mailed to me. Renee got back to me two days later telling me I actually owed $ 221.00. When asked why she responded that they bill according to ADA and that there was a difference between their rate and the contracted rate. Renee tried telling me most insurance companies will write this difference off but mine hadn’t hence I was responsible. This time I decided to call my carrier who explained to me that I was being asked to pay the difference between their estimated rate and the contracted rate they had with my carrier, which is wrong. This happened today, thankfully my carrier has offered to call the dentist directly to correct this so that I will receive my credit. This is very disappointing to me because I really trusted this dentist and I really feel like his sister who runs the office and processes all of the billing paper work is not fairly charging his customers and this is why he has been loosing business. I need more dental work done on my teeth but I know I will be looking for a new dentist, especially after reading the other review that was left on here. So apparently the service is over priced and the quality is below average is what I’m gathering. I don’t know if its the dentist, his sister Renee or both of them. At this point I’m more concerned about the health of my teeth, my money, and not being the subject of another over priced claim to make money off of. I wish I could have left a better review but this entire experience has been disappointing and unethical.
