Beyond cozy and warm… Super place with great atmosphere, sports TV and corners away if you choose. Great selection of Irish beers and drinks. Really upscale irish even for bar snacks. try the outstanding Irish nachos made with crisping thin slices of potato dripping with Irish cheese with bacon bits… oh and the pheasant pâté! Outstanding! Service matched the food and setting as great and Irish warm and friendly. Romantic or fun loving setting inside and outside patio with overhead heaters overlooking the rolling hills and pond behind the Inn. Worth the drive from Vienna on i-66 to scenic rt-17 then back toward town on rt 50 Mosby highway. Return home meander thru Upperville, Middleburg and Aldi before the return to shock of suburban traffic. Special date place any time of year upstairs in the Inn or cuddling in the pub or chatting up college kids on break.

If Irish pub’s are truly like Wolfe Tone Pub, then take me to Dublin ASAP! Wolfe Tone pub has the Irish fee of stone walls, wooden floors, natural light and of course soccer games on the telly! During my visit, there was also a première UFC fight that weekend. I thought I was going to miss it; however, Wolfe Tone Pub had the fight on in the bar and in their rooms with their free DIRECTTV. Despite the man essentials, the scenery is nice with plenty of green and lovely flowersl Th The free breakfast was amazing as well if you’re staying at their Bed & Breakfast room(s). My omelette with sausage, onions, tomato, and cheese was tasty and hot. Unlimited coffee and OJ was also available. I’m sure mimosa’s and bloody mary’s were available as brunch was served in the bar and /or dining room.

Wonderful staff and great food. Sitting outside on the patio was lovely, but I wish they didn’t allow smoking. The pork chop was amazing!

Stayed at the Blackthorne Inn for a weekend getaway, and ate at the pub for dinner one night, and for breakfast twice. The food was good(Wolfe’s burger, fish& chips, andouille sausage omelette, waffle& fruit, and scrambled eggs & bacon). But what pushed this from 4 to 5, was the service. The young lady who served us for dinner was very attentive, and the English gentleman who runs the pub for breakfast was outstanding. Always there with more coffee, very polite, and willing to help. We really enjoyed eating here, and would come back even if we weren’t staying at the Inn.

This is a great place to eat on the patio. It’s an Irish Pub type atmosphere. Food is good old staples — Fish and Chips, Irish nachos, burgers. You don’t travel all that way for the Food. You go for a relaxing, scenic afternoon lunch, beverage and visit by the guineas who mosey around the patio.

Great food for dinner! I only wish my stomach were bigger so it could’ve handled every bite of the four-course meal. Nice selection of drinks, though I think a «local wines» list would be a big hit. Cozy indoor seating, comfortable patio outside. Live music makes the ambiance just right. Servers are attentive though not particularly speedy, but that didn’t really matter to me. Also ate their breakfast as I stayed at the Blackthorne Inn, and I can’t say enough good things about it. Fresh food, good ingredients, and the waffle was SOGOOD. I’ll be back.

Gorgeous. Cozy. Casual. European. I felt transported, after an afternoon at Philip Carter Winery, to the UK when we stopped at Blackthorne Inn and the Wolfe Tone Pub for lunch. The four of us ordered the burger, fish and chips, Irish nachos and the green salad. We were in heaven and shared each dish. The service was great — young, energetic, gracious people from the area. The atmosphere was adorable. Inside, it feels like an Irish pub — legit. Men in seersucker and bowties at the bar. Families at the tables. Outside it feels like a country club meets English garden. It’s pretty darn perfect and we are so happy that we were able to eat here after happening upon it on a Saturday at 3 in the afternoon. We’d intended to go to Ashby Inn but they were closed because of the strange time… Wolfe Tone Pub made a great choice to stay open(even with a limited menu) — we were there in a flash and are so happy we made it! Next time we’re winery hopping in Virginia, we’ll be there.

While staying at the Inn we ate in the pub and while the Irish nachos were tast the fish and chips looked like a bad version of Mrs. Paul’s fish sticks and the cheeseburger was overcooked and when I pointed it out no offer was made to bring something new nor was it removed from the bill. Also I never thought before a bartender made such a big difference but he was so surly that it created a negative atmosphere. Very off-putting experience though our cabin at the Inn was charming if a bit ramshackle.

Located inside the Blackthorne Inn this is a cozy pub with a real fire place going in the colder months. Recommend trying their soups. In summer you can sit out on the patio.

What a find! My wife, daughter and I went for an ‘adventure’ ride down 50 from Fairfax to take in the Fall colors and visit Middleburg(and beyond). Just past Upperville we passed the sign for the Blackthorn Inn(and Irish Pub). The timing was perfect for a proper pint of Guinness, so I pulled a U-turn as soon as I could and pulled into the pea-gravel parking lot to investigate. The pub is small and cozy, lines with stone walls and closely grouped tables around a small bar. There was a fire going on the far wall and we sat next to it to take off the early evening chill. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. We were quickly served a pint of Guinness, pint of Harp and a lemonade. We were not that hungry, so my wife ordered a spinach salad and we asked if the kitchen would make a grilled cheese for our daughter. The waiter told us ’”that will not be a problem’ to the off-menu inquiry. We saw tables around us get the Irish Nachos(WOW — looked like the perfect bar food), fish & chips(perfect fry up) and a chicken club(with avocado — the sandwich looked delicious). The spinach salad was excellent. The spinach was beautiful, crisp and flavorful. The other ingredients were perfectly portioned. But the bacon vinagrette was the star of the show. My daughter’s grilled cheese was also outstanding. It was piled high with delicious Colby cheese the ultimate choice for grilled cheese. The country white bread was cut thick and perfectly grilled. We cannot wait to get out there again. This is a great treat within 30 minutes of Fairfax. The drive is beautiful and the facility matches the surroundings. The Inn looks great, too. What a find!

An Irish Pub on route 50 between Upperville and Winchester. What a find, an authentic Irish Pub. They serve a fine pint of Guinness!

Adjacent to the Blackthorn Inn is a quaint Celtic infused hot spot on the edge of Upperville, VA. Hubby at the wheel, BFF from Atlanta in tow, we all decided to check out this pub. The Mayor of Round Hill and his wife highly recommended it as one of their local«go to» haunts… so off we went! We approached a lovely Inn and turned into the gravel parking lot. As we walked toward the building we saw a few couples on the outside deck chattering away with wine and nibbles on their tables. Entering the main door with the signs for both the pub and the Inn welcoming us… we made our way to the bar and grabbed 3 seats on the end. The place was a buzz with laughing, some serious conversations and folks already into dinner… oh and drinking, lots of drinking, going on! The BFF and I had a pint of Woodpecker Cider, filled to the brim. The tangy refreshing nature of this drink was a great way to begin the weekend. The hubby started with a Smithwicks-an Irish red ale style beer from Kilkenny in Ireland. The bartender was engaging, attentive and poured drinks to the brim… what a treat. Even though we had a plentiful dinner of homemade pork fried rice… somehow we found ourselves ordering the«Irish Nachos.» Guilty pleasure — you bet — fresh made potato chips topped with a nice Dublin cheddar, bacon, scallions and a side of a cheesy garlic sauce. Heaven! Slainte — a new round, Black n Tan for one, Guiness for two. The place really started filling up with an assortment of characters. In anticipation of the local singing duo. Enter the musicians… bass and acoustic guitars they began belting out James Taylor, and other sing along type favs. We sat through a few tunes… and ventured out the back patio to the lighted gazebo just to see what’s what. Crossing the bridge to the gazebo we were met by a very large swan paddling along quietly, hoping for a morsel of bar food leftovers. Sorry my fine feathered friend, our plate was clean and after snapping a very dark pic we were off to find another adventure. Fun evening… will be back for dinner.
