I hit this truck out in front of guitar center a couple months ago, and then again at a food truck festival in encino. These are some of the nicest people running a truck that I have encountered, I mean they come out to the line and give you cuban coffee which is absolutely fantastic. The el manolo sandwich is the go-to, I think my favorite part is the bread which is unlike any sandwich bread I have had locally. Perfectly fresh and flaky, grilled just enough on the outside. Definitely one of my favorite trucks, I cant wait to check out their restaurant.

Was… The Best Food Truck/Restaurant, The Coolest Kats from top to bottom(Gabriel, Chef Frankie, Christian, John, Maria & the crew) and everything on the menu is all very dangerously addicting. So far I’ve tried the Pan Con Pollo(chicken sandwich), EL Manolo(steak sandwich) both were made to perfection, also a new item on the menu is their La Curepa, WOW! it’s dangerously delicious and a must try for all you foodies… the Café(coffee) hits the spot just right and Im not even a coffee guy, but after my first sample of the Café Cubano I was hooked. I get a shot every time now. FUACATA! Can’t forget their Empanadas, I mean I never leave with out one or two or even three, they’re that great… from the chicken empanada to the amazing guava and cheese which is my favorite it’s all really amazing and the menu keeps on growing and so I have some work to do. Café con Leche Café the restaurant is at 15053 Ventura blvd Sherman Oaks, CA and soon will be open 24 – 7. DALE! ;-) and look for their truck through twitter: Update: no sign of Café Con Leche… They shut down the Restaurant without any warning right before they competed on «The Great Food Truck Race 2» and after the show you’d think they would have used the exposure to grow and expand, but they ended up having a fall out and Destroyed a Great Thing… really sad. r.i.p. Café con leche. i will forever miss Chef Frakie’s Menu.

Food is really tasty but for the price I can have a sit down dinner at most Cuban restaurants. That being said, if there isn’t an actual Cuban eatery by your house get you a$@# down to the Café con Leche truck you’ll enjoy it.

You really can’t go wrong when you press roasted pork and ham with swiss cheese mustard and pickles. Oh my, how can you go wrong? Well, I guess the price tag needs to be just right. But at the basics, they offer up some really good Cuban food on the go. Something that you really only can get at a couple of locations in Los Angeles. Cuban sandwiches right to your curb. Now that’s something that you can’t pass up. I mean, I could make some comment about wondering if this is the same truck that floated its way to the Florida coast. but that would just be silly. Never the less, that’s to say that I find this place to be really authentically good Cuban sandwich offerings. From the basic Cuban sandwich to the Media Noche You could add stuff to your sandwich if you want to want to get fancy. Like avocado, tomatoes, goat cheese, sauce, onions. I mean, what sort of madness is this? It gives you a pretty wide selection of choices. I do like to keep it simple. And at $ 7 a sandwich, I guess it’s good enough plane. Hey, it’s still pretty damn good. though that price tag does hinder it from getting a five star rating. They also have new creation sandwiches at a buck more, but really, I have to get me my Media Noche fix every now and then. My one question is if this is the same Café con Leche that has had a «coming soon» sign held up high on the outside wall of Self Help Graphics in East L.A. Because if it is, well then, now I’m a little more frustrated that it has been a good year and it’s not open. To have these Cuban deliciousness would be a pleasure to have nearby. For the time being, I guess I have to settle with hunting down this food truck.

If you bring me to a Cuban restaurant, chances are I will read the entire menu, look at all the sweet and savory combinations, marvel at the plantains and black beans and yucca and croqutas and then when the waiter shows up I will probably order a Cuban Sandwich. I don’t know the precise moment in history it happened, but hopefully Sr. Castro put up a roadside marker at the proper spot to commemorate the brilliant Cuban discovery of putting ham AND pork on the same sandwich. It’s not as contradictory as it sounds; the cured ham and cooked pork compliment each other magically. And when the bread is placed on a plance(grill press) and the cheese melts and the pickle and mustard juices flow and everything soaks into the bread, a perfect sandwich is made. Somehow,(although I can’t figure out why) slicing the bread diagonally seems to make the whole thing taste better too. It is hard to screw up a Cuban sandwich. I was served a halfway decent one today, and the Café Con Leche truck, but it was only somewhat heated. They weren’t busy so I stayed at the truck to eat it and chat with the owner. Two bites into it, as i realize it isn’t all that warm, he reads my mind and offers to heat it up some more. I accept and 5 minutes later, I am eating a much better sandwich. The soft cheese and blended flavors make all the difference. One has to wonder why it was served lukewarm in the first place. There was no long lines, and I certainly wasn’t rushing anyone. These need to be served hot though, once the cheese cools the magic is lost. That knocked them down to 4 stars and I am bringing them down to 3, because as I was enjoying this sandwich, the owner steps out of the truck and fires up a cigarette. This is the hospitality industry and few things are less hospitable than making a paying customer breathe your smoke. When I complained he moved a little down the sidewalk and had the customers of the next truck inhale his smoke instead. I am sure they were thrilled too. We were in Studio City, which is part of the City of Los Angeles. On March 8, 2011 it becomes illegal to smoke within 40 feet of a food truck. What the owner did today wasn’t illegal; but it was still plenty rude. When it becomes illegal, I will bump any business where they elect not to obey the law down to 1 star automatically; but as for now I will leave them at 3 stars. «Gourmet Food Truck #105 on my never-ending quest to try every truck in So Cal»

Last night was the first time I’ve tried Cuban Food and I have to say Café Con Leche made my experience a great one! I may have been a little under the influence but I’m sure when I’m sober it will have the same effect on my tastebudz! We got some Croquetas & Papa Rellana and they were crisp to perfection! The secret sauce was beyond! Lastly, not only did Café Con Leche serve great food in the go but also the best service I’ve had in a really long time. The owner, Gabriel really broke down what was in each dish and also gave us desserts to make sure our first time was unforgettable! The flan and tres leches were delish! I promise I would spread the word on such a amazing food truck and I’ve kept it! Enjoy everyone, they don’t disappoint. Thank you once again Gabriel! I’m sure you will be seeing us again soon :) PS Look out for their restaurant! I know it is coming soon!

Yum-O! This food truck was AMAZING! The only bad thing was that it was pretty expensive for the portion size:( I would definitely go back though, so they must be doing something right!

I am in love with Café con Leche. The only way to describe it is that it reminds me ofthat homemade taste. My mom has a good handful of Cuban friends and so we’ve tasted some really authentic food growing up. My fave here is the pan con lechon – a simple sandwich with roasted pork, swiss cheese and mojo. Let me tell you that the pork is outstanding. So well seasoned and juicy, I melt with every bite. I pair it with a cup of their«Cortadito,» ¾ espresso with a ¼ steamed milk. I was surprised to find their coffee drinks are already sweetened, but pleasantly surprised to taste a perfect balance. My family loves the Cubano and Media Noche sandwiches – so far everything on the menu has been a hit with us. There are some mediocre food trucks out there just jumping on the band wagon with no real passion for food – Café con Leche is NOT one of them. Its one of the food truck gems that I highly recommend. Please support!

I recall a few years back a very famous radio host ranted about not finding a cuban sandwich or media noche sandwich in Los Angeles. I’d agree there aren’t a lot of places that offer GOOD versions of these cuban sandwiches. Most of us default to what Porto’s offers.(And who doesn’t like them?) Café Con Leche can easily be added to the list of ‘good cuban sandwiches’ Its every you want or need in a cuban or media noche. Pork and ham with cheese, mustard and pickles, pressed until crispy. the simplicity of it makes it a very perfect sandwich. Café Con Leche does it right. Café Con Leche does offer a very interesting menu. The kind of menu that winds up(for me) a checklist of items I want to try out in repeat visits. I’ll be honest and offer that they do seem to be working out the logistics and running their new truck. That’s to be expected of ANY food truck. I give them and any food truck the benefit of the doubt. However, the coffee service is a little slower than it should be.

We were looking for a bit of a pick me up towards the later hours of the evening when we serendipitously walked by the Café Con Leche truck. Well I’m no genius but I do know that a café con leche is a coffee with milk and it sounded soooo good. Ted ordered the café con leche and I ordered the malta condensada. I really love condensed milk(I know, how gross!) so this seemed like the perfect excuse to drink it without looking too crazy. We tried Ted’s café con leche first and we were quite pleased. It was perfectly sweetened and had just the right amount of leche involved. What a great little jolt to keep us going! Then I tested out the malta condensada. It was a little bit more sour than I might have anticipated. I was hoping for a coffee drink that was sweetened with condensed milk. Somehow I missed out on this. It just wasn’t hitting the note I thought it would. Still a wonderful truck and we can’t wait to come back and try their delicious Cuban hits.

We ordered the Manilo I think and I was surprised. A great deal for such a large sandwhich. They played Cuban music. They had a lady taking orders outside as well as the window. So their sandwhich is just declicious and I’m not typically wowed by sandwhiches but what makes this place great is their choice of bread. I don’t know if its a cuban thing or what but it makes me want to go back for more. Crunch something different bread. AWesome.

While my daughter was still working on her hot dog from Greasy Wiener, saw there was no line here and decided to check it out. The last time I had Cuban food was in Miami which was more than 10 years ago and still remembering the Medianoche I had then, thought I’d see how they did with theirs. The Medianoche is the«little brother» to the Cuban Sandwich and is done on sweet bread with ham, roasted pork, Swiss cheese, mustard, pickles and then grilled up. While I was waiting, loved the Cuban music, the friendly staff and the«Café Bustelo» coffee cans in the window. They also have a small table and chairs set up for you right next to the truck which we used while we were waiting. However it was a mere minutes later when my foil wrapped sammich was slid into by awaiting hands and it did not disappoint. The cheese was perfectly melted, the pork well seasoned and it came together like nothing that I had ever tasted. I honestly didn’t want to try anything else the rest of the day so the flavors could linger. While this is the first time that I’ve seen this truck, I now know it won’t be my last!

After a magnificent meal at Chi Dynasty in Studio City, which I will review today as well, my husband and I were driving down Ventura Blvd. and saw this truck. I saw the words«Café Con Leche» and suggested that we stop by and grab some coffee. The owners of this truck are incredibly friendly. I told Gabriel that my husband and I just ate dinner but wanted to try their coffee. I wanted to order the iced coffee, but they ran out of ice. Garbriel insisted that I try their Café Con Leche and gave me a sample of the coffee to try. It was incredible! So we ordered 2 coffees. He suggested the cheese and guava empanada. So we sat at this table in front of the truck and had dessert. The empanada was flavorful and unique, unlike any other empanada I have tried. Then, Chef Frankie came out of the truck and told us that he made some fried yucca that he wanted us to try on the house! I thought that was very generous and thoughtful. I really hope these guys do well for themselves. Their menu looks amazing and we can’t wait to try more of their food!

When you think of salsa, great Cuban food with strong coffee you’re probably thinking about the Café Con Leche truck owned by Gabriel Martinez and Chef Frankie. This truck is the 1st of its kind and will be offering online ordering soon to make it easier to get your Cubana food on. Chef Frankie is responsible for the Cuban inspired menu, which is awesome! We sampled a few of the menu items such as; the Cuban sandwich, a traditional sandwich made with fresh cuban bread grilled to perfection with jamon, slow roasted pork that you can break with your tonque, swiss cheese, hardy mustard, and crunchy pickles to top it off, make it a lip smacking good experience. The Manolo-Pan con Bistec, steak sandwich was palomilla style– Mention palomilla to a Cuban and his eyes will light with pleasure. Like so much grilled fare, palomilla(pronounced«pal-o-me-ya») is a poor man’s dish that has been elevated to gastronomic indulgence. The term refers to a thin, flavorful steak cut from the bottom round(la bola in Spanish). Because bottom round can be rather tough, the steak is cut thin(about the width of your baby finger) to make it seem more tender.(muy Sabrosa), with grilled onions, crushed gourmet potato chips added a nice crunch, sweet tomatoes, swiss cheese, and Chef Frankie’s creamy with a hint of heat special sauce to complete this work of art. I would change the name to El Delicioso! The last item we tasted was the Pastelitos de Guayaba y Queso, which is guava and goat cheese baked in a lighly browned empanada shell, yes they make their own empanada’s too. Simply incredible are the skills of Chef Frankie. The Café Cuban drink brings me back to my traditional Italian roots of sitting around the table drinking strong espresso coffee with my grandfather. Agradecimiento Café Con Leche!

The Café Con Leche truck has gotten great reviews from my co-workers, so today when I was driving near the office I pulled over and stepped up to the window. High points for ambience — which is strange because they’re a truck parked at a curb in LA, but their music dares you to do a bit of a samba while you peruse the menu and they even put a little table and chair under the tree nearby. Higher points for aroma that totally gets your mouth watering! I got the Cuban veggie sandwich, but the bread was a bit dry as if had been stale before it was pressed but the sweet grilled onions were the star, and the addition of the crushed«gourmet» potato chips in the sandwich made it memorable. If you’re starving, you’ll be happy to see that each sandwich comes with a big pile of plantain chips — not incredible by any means, but totally munch-worthy. People were fairly freaking about their coffee drinks — but I’d already had WAY too much java this morning, so I wasn’t going to see what the fuss was all about. I agree with other reviewers that the person taking the orders should be more familiar with the menu/prices and their system of getting you your change should be more professional. See you there! Ivy

A friend of mine and I decided to try Café con Leche instead of Canters before heading over to Cinespia. I was delighted to see a Cuban food truck, and looked forward to having a delicious Cuban sandwich. Needless to say, I was disappointed. With a line fewer than five people, my food took over 10 minutes to come out. When it did, the sandwich was barely warm and neither golden brown nor crispy and I guess sort-of pressed, cold in the center. But I was hungry so I ate the thing. Five minutes later and I’m still waiting for the iced coffee drink I ordered, only to be informed they were out of ice and couldn’t make it. I ordered a Malta India bottled soda instead, and had to ask for my change. The order taker was pleasant but seemed to not know the menu or prices very well at all. Lastly, a pet peeve of mine is that they serve all of their sandwiches in plastic jelly containers. Not only is it too big for two halves of a sandwich, it’ll likely end up choking a seagull. A paper plate or bag would have done just fine.

Still fresh from their recent debut on the Food Truck scene earlier this week, I caught up with Café Con Leche for lunch at Santa Monica’s Truck Alley on 26th& Pennsylvania. There’s no denying that their take on Cuban Cuisine is refined enough to satisfy most of the palettes on the gourmet truck circuit. Challenges to its authenticity are thrown out the window as soon as you spot the multitude of desserts, pastelitos, cafés and Cuban drinks that are made available(that’s if you haven’t already overheard the rythymic Cuban accents sported by some of the staff). Unfortunately, Café Con Leche is still working out a lot of the kinks that come with any new operation. The two roaming staff members that take and deliver orders are helpful, but they aren’t yet familiar with the menu. It didn’t take long to notice that their current setup for receiving payments from patrons has people receiving their cash change or credit card receipts about at the same time that their food is ready. It looked to my untrained eye that they might have benefited from another person in the kitchen, as a typical order was taking about 15 – 30 minutes to come out for a medium-sized crowd(with a very few people having their order mysteriously lost by the kitchen). Give them a few more weeks and their food is sure to be the only thing anyone can talk about, till then their logistical hurdles are keeping them from functioning as a well-oiled machine.
