Heathman Lodge

Wonderful visit. I miss it dearly, after spending 9 years in the Pacific Northwest with awe inspiring beauty as far as the eye can see… The Heathman fits perfectly… feels like it’s miles and miles away from the city, but is really close to just about anything you need, or even plan to do in or around Portland. It’s a beautifully hidden gem, perfect for out of town family/​guests, or over night dates with your Valentine.

We had to stay for a funeral unfortunately. However, the service was outstanding! I called very early to see about possible early check in so we could drop off our stuff and change before the service. When we showed up Justin the front desk manager checked us in and was amazing! After the service we stayed with family and made it back just after 10pm, which was when the room service closes. Having such a long and exhausting day they offered to take our order at the in house restaurant and deliver it to our room for us. Would definately recommend to ANYONE looking to stay in vancouver area!

Along with their pretty log house themed buildings and rooms, each room comes with a refregerator, a microwave, Keurig coffee maker, etc. We really liked that laundry machine inside the building is complimentary (=free!), which is unusual. We brought our own detergent, but you can also buy it at the reception. Heated pool and spa are indoor and clean towels are provided by the pool side. There are lots of restaurants and shops nearby. We will definitely come back to this hotel again.

We arrived to carolers on the stairs and a packed lobby. Everyone at the front desk in front of a computer was helping someone, so Justin walked around the desk to personally greet us and engage us in conversation. He offered us coffee/​mocha/​latte, etc while we waited, inquired about our drive in, and was very personable. What a pleasant surprise! Our room was very large, clean, had memory foam beds and the large balcony was so nice. The lodge was nicely decorated and loved the unique local furniture. We will definitely return and recommend this place.

These guys do a great job. You definitely don’t feel like you’re by the mall, at least once you’re inside. They’re clearly aiming for an experience like their more-​opulent/​historic downtown Portland location. Yes, you’re in the middle of a web of freeways and the mall is close by; you’re parking in a gigantic flat suburban mall parking lot. But you’re parking for free, with minimal effort, in a secure area with tons of bright lights overhead.
Inside, as you can see by the photos, they’re making every conceivable effort to rock the national park lodge feel. Big rough-​hewn pine logs for the staircases, big rough-​looking paneling for walls and ceilings where they can fit it in. The carpets, furniture and more functional built-​ins (like the front desk, kitchen stuff, etc.) are all modern, though they integrate with the lodge feel to the extent they can.
The staff are super nice – cheerful, friendly, right on top of everything. Checkin and checkout each took just a couple minutes.
The hallways here are rather labyrinthine, and all the doorway frames have that hewn log feel (whether they’re literally hewn logs, I’m not sure). But the exit lights are plentiful and modern and easy to follow, even if the twists and turns and the wild mountain west carpet patterns disorient you.
The rooms are spacious and feel quite modern – big vanity area, big bathroom, plenty of space to stretch your legs, make coffee, change clothes, all that. For the price you pay even at rack rate, what you get is quite nice. We had a door that led out to a balcony. The balcony overlooked the parking lot and an access road, but, still, you’re getting fresh air in a building that feels solid and comfortable in every way.
The beds are nice, though the mattresses are quite firm. I’m not kidding about firm; that side of your body the next morning might feel like it has been to the weight room (but I love that). Great pillows, great night’s sleep. Serious blackout curtains – I thought it was still the middle of the night until I checked the clock and realized the sun had been up for a couple hours.
The showers here are big walk-​in tiled spaces with plenty of water pressure. The coffee’s a series of little Keurigs (regular and decaf, not flavored ones). The TV is small, but, seriously, you get fantastic attention to detail in all your creature comforts.
The only trick is, you might be a ways away from what really interests you if you stay here. If the location works for you, though, you will most likely love what you get for your money here.

The Heathman Lodge is very pretty. Rustic décor with a lot of wildlife and logs type of décor. I stayed in a junior suite which is large for one person so ended up inviting my boyfriend and his daughter to hang out. It has its own little living room with a full size leather sofa and an oversized chair. It also has a coffee table, a dresser, and television. In addition, there is a desk with light, microwave and Keurig coffee maker, mini fridge and sink. The separate bedroom has a nice bed and a flat screen tv and a big window and closet. The bathroom has a jacuzzi tub big enough for 2 adults and a large shower. Entry to bathroom has a sink with mirror and hair dryer. Forgot to say that there is also a sink in the bathroom. Everything nice and new and clean! We were here Halloween night. $ 150.00 plus tax for the night. Room service available until 9 or 10:00 depending on the day. They have a restaurant and bar called Hudson’s Bar and Grill which I will review separately.
Negatives: There is not a balcony or fireplace. Although some rooms do have both. No tv in the bathroom like they used to have. The pillows are cheap and lack the fullness nice pillows do. Not enough creamer and only 2 regular coffee Keurig cups and 2 decaf but you can always get more and bring your own pillows. We were next to the stairwell so it was a bit noisy or it may have just been people walking on the 3^rd floor.
Overall, the staff are very helpful and friendly and The Heathman is a very nice hotel to stay at. I do think that for the price you should at the least get a complimentary continental breakfast. I guess they need to make money at the restaurant but it would be nice anyway. I will stay again though because the positives outweigh the negatives!

I really wanted to love my stay at Heathman Lodge. It’s as gorgeous as the pictures make it out to be. The service at the front desk was always polite and genuinely friendly. Our room had a massive window that faced the woods, adding to the rustic lodge feel. We stayed in a recently renovated room, which felt clean and modern.
All these wonderful qualities were overshadowed by a group of inconsiderate wedding guests that stayed in rooms adjacent to ours. On the first night, we awoke at midnight to them yelling with their room doors open and literally running down the halls. This went on for a solid 30 minutes before we complained to the front desk. They apologized and said a manager would be by to ask them to quiet down, but it didn’t seem to have an effect. The exact same situation repeated itself on the second night. The issue was never resolved before we checked out.
I get that this isn’t entirely the Lodge’s fault, but when a customer complains about the same problem two nights in a row, shouldn’t a manager at least acknowledge and follow up sometime during the stay? Or offer a different room? Something? Otherwise, your guest leaves feeling disappointed.

We had a wonderful stay, beautiful hotel, great staff and the restaurant is great and not over priced like most hotels.
I would stay again, very personalized hotel not like all the corporate hotels.

My wife and I came to the Heathman Lodge for a short 3 day conference.
At first I had concerns because they are performing renovations. My worries were put to rest by the signage and the staff. I expected the place to be a mess, but I only saw a few workers outside the building, none inside.
Our room was not ready (we were quite early), so we decided to grab a bite to eat at Hudson’s and the front desk clerk said they would text us when our room was ready. We had a great dinner (highly recommend the food) and proceeded to wait for our room to finish being cleaned. An addiction hour later, I approached the desk only to find that the room had been ready for some time and they had just not gotten around to informing us. We were sitting not 10 feet from the front desk.
Anyway, we got to our amazing room, a king suite, and proceeded to relax. A flat screen in every room, including the bathroom, a fireplace with seating for 8, a kitchen and two large balconies. Of course a king size bed and a large desk for working.
It’s clean. It’s quiet, it’s close to numerous restaurants and shopping. We have had a wonderful time so far and I am looking forward to coming back.

This is a wonderful place to stay at during your time in Vancouver. It has friendly service, large and tastefully decorated rooms and delicious food at the Hudson’s restaurant.
We were here for a week in May 2013 and our room was spacious, well appointed and had all the amenities we could possibly want. It’s not a five star luxury hotel, but it definitely has an understated luxury quality. The décor and rustic theme are very inviting and cosy with the characteristic exposed wood beam ceilings, roaring fireplaces, beautifully patterned throws on comfy leather reception sofas, plush carpets on shiny hardwood floors and ambient lighting. The service is also friendly but unimposing and you have privacy if you want it, which I find many hotels (especially upscale ones) sometimes don’t provide.
I’ve been back several times to have dinner at Hudson’s restaurant and the warm, welcoming atmosphere always feels inviting. The dishes at Hudson’s are all more or less the same good quality but I especially recommend the calamari, mushroom ravioli and the flat iron steak. The salmon has been great previously but the last couple of times I’ve visited Hudson’s, it was a little dry. Overall, a great place to stay, go-​out for dinner and bring guests to.

Great location, close to Westfield Mall. Easy to get into Portland from location as well. Great price and the room is fantastic, with a little private bedroom! They recently renovated and it’s been well done!
Overall I highly recommend! The only thing I didn’t like was the lack of bedroom ventilation from the main a/​c unit. That made the bedroom stuffy.

We love the Heathman Lodge. The atmosphere is wonderful, food great and STAFF is
EXCELLENT. On our last stay I left all my jewelry in the room and they called us within 10 minutes to say it was at the front desk. All were irreplaceable sentimental pieces/​gifts from my husband. Thank you to Fatna the housekeeper who returned them to me.

Loved everything about this place. Room was nice, clean and cozy. Breakfast in the morning was amazing and or waitress was top notch. I was curious about their French toast which was made from bread pudding. I’m do not like soggy French toast so I asked her to describe it for me. She said it was a little on the softer side in the middle and suggested I try something else since I was not a fan of mushy french toast… so I did. Then a few minutes later she deliverd a small plate with a half piece of the french toast topped with poached pears and sliced strawberries. She even brought me a little side of jam and syrup. I did not ask for this, she brought it to me just so I could decide for myself.
Top notch service right there.
The breakfast was fabulous and not just for a hotel restaurant, for any restaurant. Dinner and dessert the night prior were also great.
Easy freeway access and lots of things close by.

I recently stayed the weekend at The Heathman Lodge for a church function. I thought the place was very charming. The room had everything I needed for my weekend stay… Frig, microwave, free lattes, etcetera. The continental breakfast on the fourth floor was decent. The waffles were delicious. The nice thing about the fourth floor is only people staying on that floor can access it so it provides slightly more security.
The staff were very attentive to the needs of the church function. The lunch the lodge provided for the function was fresh and simple… And beautifully displayed.
I would definitely recommend the Heathman for business or pleasure.

Heathman Lodge is absolutely a nice hotel for a town like Vancouver. It’s not the Ritz Carlton … and it doesn’t want to be. It thrives by keeping the small town vibe, lodge décor, and super friendly staff from the front desk to the restaurant to housekeeping.
I had the luck to stay here a couple times over the past few months. Each stay was well worth the discounted corporate rate. Rustic rooms with heavy accents on wood make the lodge theme work. It’s also nice that many of the rooms have doors that open to a patio overlooking a small natural forest.

If you are looking for a quality hotel in the suburbs of Portland or Southwest Washington that doesn’t have the big chain hotel vibe, then the Heathman Lodge is an excellent choice.

I travel often for work so i am very wary of the potential to spread diseases and bacteria via a semi-​cleaned hotel room.
I was very disappointed at the lack of cleanliness of the rooms. I asked to have my shower recleaned as hair was visible in the shower. Even after «recleaning», there was still visible stands of long hair.
My second issue was with the desk staff. I was met with an extremely condescending and elitist attitude on more than one occasion from the front desk staff.
My final issue was the poor quality of the gym. No free weights and very little room to maneuver in the small space.
If ever in Vancouver, save your money and go elsewhere.

I stayed at the Heathman for the first time. The Lodge is unbelievable and seems like a luxurious ski lodge when you walk into the lobby.
The people at the front desk we eager to serve and very nice. I asked them about breakfast and the guy gave me a $ 3 coupon.
The Hudson restaurant was fantastic. I had dinner that night and was amazed at the quality of the meal.
There is no other place I would stay in Vancouver or close to Portland.

I was very disappointed in this hotel. As many have said the lobby is gorgeous, and the problem starts when you enter the room. My shower was NOT clean. The amount of soap scum on the tub was shocking (I used my card key to scrape some off). While they do have the memory foam matress I was hoping for, the linens were threadbare and the blanket provided was so old I would be hard pressed letting a dog have it. The room service menu was greasy to the touch. The AC/​Heat unit made and awful noise that kept me up.
I asked management to fix the noisy air unit and to get the shower/​tub cleaned. They got off some of the soap scum, but to be honest this was the dirtiest shower I have ever seen in a hotel and this is supposed to be a nice place!!! Their answer to rattling air unit was to adjust the thermostat so it wouldn’t turn on. No effort whatsoever.
The restaurant is quite good though a bit overpriced and has limited hours for service. Most of the menu is available via roomservice (though the menu doesn’t include many items you could order). However, BEWARE OF THE GRATUITY FOR ROOM SERVICE. The first time I had it delivered I was not informed gratuity was included. Granted, it was my responsibility to review the bill, but since it isn’t printed anywhere on the room service menu, I expect to be informed. ¹⁄₃ servers who delivered to me informed me the gratuity was included.
Overall, I think the Heathman lodge is relying on its older clientele base and reputation to carry it through. They definietly need to remodel the rooms and update the linens in their rooms. Their housekeeping is inexcusable. I would not return unless the place was remodeled or under new management. Preferably BOTH.

Overall great place especially for kids. Really nice lobby and public areas. Here is my quick assessment and why I think it only deserves 3 stars. I stay at a LOT of hotels all over so I’m very keen on options and size and surroundings. Those things matter.

Really nice place. Great location. Staff is super friendly. The rooms are large and have a Microwave, Fridge and K-​Cup Coffee Maker with Tully’s. Awesome Leather Sofa in the room. Great view and close to a huge mall, plenty of food. You’ll also feel safe here and sleep well.
Cons
Memory Foam bed, felt like sleeping on a rock
TV was flat screen, but no HD channels really
