I love Torrid. I usually order online but when I need to swing in the store, the Van Mall location is my go-to store even though I live in Oregon. The ladies are always super nice, they have a good selection of items and they are always quick to offer site to store should they not have something I want in stock. Yes, Torrid can be pricey but so can the other big name plus size retailers. It is just the nature of the game. I knocked one star off just because sometimes they do not appear to be appropriately staffed(too few people working which means a moderately lengthy wait time for fitting rooms or to check out) and because I had a bad experience with the hiring manager several years ago(I was called in for an interview and didn’t get to actually interview).

Oh Torrid. What a love hate relationship I have with you. The good: Cute clothes for chubby girls… Hallelujah! This is good for you because its a niche that many retailers, particularly at the mall, fail to explore.(Baffling since the majority of women in America are obese). This is also good for me, because I know I will usually find something cute when I am in the mood for a pick-me-up feel better retail therapy. The employees are usually very helpful and friendly. They seem to enjoy their jobs. That’s nice! The Cons: You most definitely take advantage of us bigger girls. Your prices are OUTRAGEOUS. I mean, seriously. $ 40 dollars for a cotton knit t-shirt-outrageous. It makes me mad to shop there sometimes. I feel keenly aware that when I am flipping through clothes on the hanger, some corporate greedy jerks are rubbing their hands together Mr. Burns style somewhere about the money they are going to make off me and my need to feel good about myself. If the clothing was well made, and lasted– I would be able to put this feeling aside a little more often. Instead, I only infrequently splurge on something here — and always on sale or clearance. When I do, I love my item for about 2 – 5 months before it falls apart like clockwork. This seems to be happening more and more. Case in point, your Roxanne Boot Cut jeans. I used to love these! They were comfy, flattering and well made. The denim was thick and quality, which made the $ 60 price tag a little easier to swallow. Now, all Roxanne jeans are made of flimsy, stretch material and don’t even come close to resembling what they used to be. I have owned 3 pairs so far in the past year and a half of these stretchy things and they always fade(about 10 washes in) and fall apart about 5 months in. Also, the skinny jeans thing has got to stop. No pair of skinny jeans is flattering on my butt, so give us some better options already. Wish you would improve your quality, or in the very least price your clothes appropriately for how long they last.
