I imagine this is a great place to bring a date because it is soooo dark! mood lighting to the max! they have a great beer selection, and it’s usually not too hard to find a place to sit. the bouncer that checked my ID was kinda rude, and sometimes the crowd here can be douchy, but just ignore them and enjoy your drinks!

My friend and I checked out First Friday on Abbot Kinney last week. We stopped into The Otheroom. Hadn’t been here in years but the place still holds up — great beer selection, ambiance, and crowd. The bartender, Darin, steered us in the direction of some good craft beers then on to some really good Sake. We had planned on bar hopping but ended up staying here there the rest of the night. When we finally did close out our tab, he remembered my friend’s last name without us even asking. They were slammed, so I was impressed. This is one of those few bars in LA that stands the test of time. Glad it’s still there. You’ll pay maybe $ 1-$ 2 less for a draft beer anywhere else but totally worth it. Highly recommend this place on the weekend. Like my friend Arnold… I’ll be back!!!

They have an excellent glass/bottle of white(2014 Foresti«I Soli» Vermentino).

This place used to have a lot of charm and was a perfect spot to hang with friends or meet a pretty young lady. The old chill and cool vibe is completely gone. Now, we have TV’s, and worse music. My suggestion to management is simple, if it ain’t broke; don’t fix it. I gave two stars only because my Pinot was good, but vibe is totally different. The place is dead on a Friday night, before Christmas. Take note management and bring back the old Other Room.

Nice drink selection but the bartender we had was incredibly rude — she was very impatient even though the bar was only about 1⁄3 full and there was no line. When I tried to order she started walking away. Didn’t engage with us at all — no smile, no manners, no kindness whatsoever. My friend and I were having a great time and she was a complete buzzkill.

Decent bar lounge. I didn’t get anything to drink here, but they had an ok beer list available. I like their seats. Place wasn’t too crowded for a Saturday night.

Came here after a super long day with some friends, one of whom went to the Otheroom(called Anotheroom, I think) in New York(this Venice location is a sister branch). Definitely a good way to ease into adult life – everyone here was basically over 25 years old, it seemed like, just hanging out with friends or maybe a date. Once you get past the bouncer, the Otheroom is super dark inside and has a good amount of open space around the actual bar area. All drafts are $ 9 flat, and they have a pretty good amount; wines are also available if you’re a wine person, I guess. I asked for the lightest beer, and the bartender said«the Pilsner for sure.» Specifically, I got the Victory Prima Pils. I felt like it was pretty hoppy; I probably should have gotten Hefeweizen beer if I was looking for something lighter. Anyways, once I got my glass, I sat with my friends in an elevated area with some green couches and these weird stool things. The tables were knee level with candlelight, so the atmosphere was kind of surreal with Drake and Meek Mill playing over the speakers and the constant hum of peoples’ conversations. Employees came around to pick up empty glasses, and the place just seems like a neat place to chill in an intimate setting with someone close to you – or someone you’re trying to get closer to. There aren’t many frills here; it’s purely for some brews and some socializing in low light. Cool place. Not totally used to bars yet, but I’ll have to keep The Otheroom in mind the next time I’m in Venice.

I’ve always liked this bar. Been going here for years. They always display different art on the walls from local artists and they have them for sale. They have a nice wine and beer selection. Good place for a date. Very industrial, modern architecture inside. The tables near the windows are basically community tables. Nice place to meet new people.

I told my friend to check his bank statement and they also added extra gratuity on his bill. He also bought a glass of wine for $ 12 and left $ 1 for tip, they added $ 10 for tip. I still have not received a phone call of apology or to correct the matter. I just called my bank to dispute the charges. Again, they added $ 101.00 on my $ 12 bill. This establishment has horrible management, lack of customer service, but full of attitude and dishonest bartenders. If you do decide to spend your hard earned money here, make sure you pay with cash, and even then I would double check your change.

Let’s start with the bad: 1. The bartenders have Pretty Girl Syndrome — look, I get it. You’re hot and you don’t need to please anyone or smile or be in any rush or really even care. People will wait for you because they always do. Just know that we’re annoyed by it. 2. The Otheroom is HELLADARK. Like, almost impossible to read the menu dark. Now on to the good: 1. The ambiance is really great — if you get there early enough you can snag one of the many seating options — high tops, cushioned benches up against the wall, booths… love it! I recently came here to catch up with some friends and thought it was the perfect place to do so. 2. Drink selection rocks. The wine and beer are so good that I don’t even miss liquor(be warned that they don’t have it at all, though!) 3. Abbot Kinney! If you’re looking for a normal bar it’s either here or The Brig and well, I think that’s a pretty straightforward choice. If you do end up wanting to move on from The Otheroom, I suggest going on to one of the restaurants that has a bar.

got there about an hour before closing on a Wed night and it was completely empty. the lady bartender was pretty nice during the first 15 minutes but when I decided order a second round of drinks, she became a total *****. I guess she thought my friend and I would leave after the first round since it was empty and it clearly looked like she was eager to go home. Oh well, she thought wrong. I was just trying to be playful and I asked her if she wanted us to leave so she could go home and I think she said yes… I don’t know. I was so drunk… I do remember she wasn’t nice though. And I still tipped her well… ugh Oh btw, the place is nice and spacious. very dark. just the way I like it… I may go back, but next time, I COULDDOWITHOUTTHEATTITUDE.

I agree with the«cozy ambiance» comments. I’ve been on a Thursday and Monday night and it was easy to get a table in the cushy seating with my friends. It was bustling Thursday, just a few other groups out on the Monday. Still, on the Thursday we got quick attention at the bar. This is a beer & wine bar, and I have enjoyed the wine.

Started on Venice and walked down all of Abbot Kinney until we found the Otherroom which was decent and the least crowded of all the bars on the block. There was no food and I think the reason I liked it a lot was because of all the plush seating plus the fact that there was nobody in the«otherroom» besides me and my date and we got to shoot the shit over a bottle in peace, that happened to be quieter than the rest of the bar. The waitress was so slow and the bouncer/ID checker was up our asses but other than that, it was the best place to chill, have some drinks and listen to some funky electro music with my babe compared to all the other bars/restaurants we passed up along the way and better than Primitivo a little further down just for the vibe of it. Any place with an emphasis on comfy seating is a win in my book.

Snobby place w/snobby ppl… Gosh I love my dive bars so much more. Drinks are over priced & the place is so dark you may want to bring a glow stick, seriously. The bartender had no personality, so boring. Just had 1 drink & I had to take off… They didn’t have any food but I was told that you could order or bring your food. I prefer gastropubs for that same reason. Beer +food = happy Liz. Anyhoot, won’t be coming here ever again.

Dark, cozy ambiance, fantastic selection of craft beer, plenty of seating and just loud enough to feel busy without being too loud to have a conversation? This place has all the makings of a perfect spot to grab a drink or two and catch up with friends in a fantastic, trendy location. The décor is simple and it’s definitely not the place to go if you are looking for activities, but the beer is plenty, and the bartenders are quick! TIP: they only serve beer & wine, no hard liquor

We went Friday night. Very cool interior, but it felt more like a swanky frat house than a swanky bar. The bartender that served us was very rude and apparently bothered that he had to serve us. He offered no help when we asked about sparkling wine. Then he dropped our drinks and left. The tab was placed in front of us with not even a thank you. We left a $ 1 tip which in my opinion was too much. We are nice, polite customers and great tippers. I’ve waited tables, in many restaurants, I get it. When you can’t be bothered to greet or thank us, then we won’t bother on our end either. As an added note, the place wasn’t that busy. Really? We spent the weekend in this neighborhood and had sensational service everywhere(Willie Jane, Salt Air, Hal’s, Gjelina, Tom’s), this place was hands down the WORST. We will never go back.

You may find it funny, I came here twice this evening and both times got disappointed . First time was, I saw on Unilocal someone said they have good food and I come they say they got no food. Only drinks . Ok we go eat somewhere else And promise to come back(went to ‘feed’ down the street was first class) When I come back I am tired and want coffee mixed with alcohol(White Russian) now they say they don’t have cocktail only beer. Really ? I guess a lot of people like beer it’s still a cool place just to have beer. Guys place didn’t see many girls over there

New owners. It was already obvious but I needed to confirm, which I did tonight. Really sad about it too because this place used to be a great bar. Now there’s all these cheap Banksy canvases up on the walls and a weird middle aged owner + his creepy«entourage», all in black jeans, black bar shirts & Vans(so «street»!) They hover en masse at the back, watching, then periodically stroll to the front door, before returning to the back. Super, super lame. Cringe worthy, actually. Most importantly, my beer was poured with literally 2″ of head. I asked her to fill it because it is the worst pour I’ve ever seen, and she declines because they«are told to pour the beer this way». That is the last straw for me. Bye, otheroom. Bye. Bye. Bye.

Fun place to hang out and get some great wine! I like coming here with my girls and getting something to drink. I’ve usually come here after First Friday’s. If you haven’t been to First Friday’s you should go! The first Friday of every month, Abbott Kinney has food trucks and the stores open up late. The Otheroom is kind of small so it is a place just to hang out. There isn’t a dance floor. The bartenders were very friendly and give good recommendations of the wine!

Smells like beer but that’s the only thing not cool about this place. I’ve come here a few times for a beer. There is no food available. I really like the vibe here. The drinks are really good. I’ve never come late on a weekend night. I can imagine it must be a meat market. But a classy one.
