Big Wave Dave’s Christmas Trees

I am writing a revision. I was contacted by Big Wave and they politely explained the situation and apologized. I understand being stuck with bad reviews so I am updating to add a star and Unilocal them out.

I always buy two trees from Big Wave Dave’s. The past years we have been pleased. We went to the lot in Camarillo this year and picked a couple of nice trees. They were the most expensive ever. Sadly the trees this year were dead on arrival. They didn’t soak up one drop of water and were so dry by Christmas Day I had to remove them from the house as soon as the gifts were opened. I was afraid they would spontaneously combust. No Fun!

I had to write a follow-​up to my original review from exactly one year ago because the experience yet again at Big Wave Dave’s was stellar!
We reached out to Dave this year again for our xmas tree. He actually remembered my family from last year. That to me is the first sign of excellent customer service. It’s such rare thing these days in a world where nobody, especially businesses remember your name.
Dave was very helpful and ensured he had the perfect tree for us before we made the long drive out from Calabasas to Ventura County. He even offered to deliver a few of the Silver Tips which we love to his closer lot at Underwood Farms in Moorpark, but we decided to see him at his Ventura County lot because we appreciated the amazing experience the whole family had last year.
We got there just before closing (Dave even offered to stay open later to ensure we would make it, and because this lot gets multiple shipments of the silver tips, which always sell out literally everywhere else after Thanksgiving), they unwrapped the most beautiful silver tip for us and it was the first one we even looked at. We were sold.
While we waited the kids, my husband and I played a few games of ping pong and generally enjoyed the atmosphere which is super fun and festive.
Their selection and pricing is unbeatable. Highly recommend Dave and his staff. We’ll back next year!

Great place with quality trees. They keep everything organized and clean. There was always someone wiling to help and explain the difference in trees. They have everything you need and will set the tree up for you on site and also tie it or load it up for you. I’m not sure if the prices are cheaper than other places but I basically got a 6 – 7 foot tree, grand fir tree with a reusable stand for 80 $. I called another tree lot for a tree stand and they wanted 35 $ but Big Wave Daves sold there stand for 24 $

We got a beautiful tree here and everyone was so helpful and friendly. Free cocoa was cool too! We will definitely be back next year.

I love Big Wave Dave’s! They have great trees, and the staff is very helpful. They put the tree in a net for you for ease of transport. Their decorations are awesome, and the overall atmosphere is fun and festive. If you’re in the Ventura area, Big Wave Dave’s is the place to go for a Christmas tree!

Love this place!!! Best Christmas tree shopping experience ever!!! They made the Christmas tree experience so easy and painless. It saved my husband and I from our annual Christmas tree fight. They have the best service you will find ANYWHERE (we lived in a lot of places so I think I can say that)…especially during the Holidays (you know how people are during the Holidays). Pete, our tree guy, was extremely patient and helped me find the P-​E-​R-​F-​E-​C-​T (get the point?) tree for our house. What made the service extra special is that after he cut the tree (the dry end, for a longer lasting tree) and fitted the tree (to fit properly onto the tree stand), he centered, leveled, and balanced it with tree stand for us. Then, he hand carried it to our van for us. When we got home, all we had to do was place our tree on the floor… literally. It took us less than a minute to do that. It was the first year that my husband and I did not argue putting up the tree (did I already mention that?), no cursing was involved, and our tree stood straight up (no leaning tree). BTW, we bought the tree right after Thanksgiving Day, and it still looked just as beautiful when we took it down after the New Year.

Growing up in Washington State, getting the Christmas tree meant bundling up in super warm clothing including gloves and toques and tromping through a wet, cold and typically muddy tree farm. And even though we’ve been down here for two years, it’s still strange to see the guy helping you with your tree dressed in a t-​shirt and shorts. But what do you expect when you get your tree from a place called Big Wave Dave’s?
This is the second year that we’ve gotten our tree from this seasonal stand on Telegraph. The first year we went to Green Thumb, and that was fine. But Dave’s is less than a mile from our apartment and has similar quality trees for a similar price and it’s much less of a cluster-f@*k than Green Thumb. And the people are friendly and helpful. They’ll cut the bottom of the tree off so it will soak up water better and they’ll trim it up for you and let you keep the branches to make a wreath or whatever and they’ll bail it up for a buck.
The only thing that Green Thumb has on Big Wave Dave’s is selection. I think that they were having a hard time keeping up with getting trees trimmed and onto the lot today so the selection wasn’t great. But we found a nice Grand Fir that is massive and full despite our intentions to take it easy this year and get something that doesn’t require us to totally rearrange the house.
